New Coach 2024 - Suggestions
Can we field a few names for the coach position?
My early ones are Shannon Hurn, Stewart Dew. Both are ex South Australians.

Re: New Coach 2024 - Suggestions
Gavin Colville possibly but he could still be in therapy after coaching West.
Jarrad Wright - can't see him at Souf next year
Brent Reilly - an assistant at Souf this year
There's a few for starters

I was actually thinking Jarrad Wright last night.
Off the cuff I don't honestly even know who our B grade is? Old age setting in.

Re: New Coach 2024 - Suggestions
Matty Knight is our B grade coach, first year.
Certainly not a candidate.
Had a quick look through a few other SANFL clubs websites to see who their Assistants are and hardly saw a name I recognise.
The club has advertised the job now and a Level 2 coaching accreditation is one of the minimum requirements.

Be interesting if the prospect of a new coach brings out the best or worst of the current players in our next game against NA (still can't bring myself after 19th man incident to say their full name). We need an inspiring coach.

I'm not expecting us to wimp out in the last 3 games, still may not win them but we'll have a crack, especially the core group that has been with Sheeds for the journey. Thought we looked structually better against Strut. Just call NA "the Cheats", it works for me and it's 100% true. Same with Port Power now too ...

Glenelg coach is a no namer from Centrals, I think. Our club has done well in the past. Goddan was a Glenelg reserves coach. I am against interstaters. They don't understand SANFL and WWT cultures. Sheedy came from the minor leagues so there should be someone out there.

Re: New Coach 2024 - Suggestions
Sheedy's assistant coach from the premiership era could be in the mix.
Jeremy Cini, spent time at Norwood for memory and left the Eagles to coach PNU Division 1. Probably has some of the credentials but not the profile or SANFL playing experience.

Thanks The Barton. Jeremy Cini is an interesting name. Wonder if he’s interested and how he would stack up against the host of applicants expected.

Agree - we need someone new and fresh like Godden and Sheedy were when they stepped up to league coaching.
An SANFL coach does a lot more than just coaching nowadays so burn ou is an issue so coaches that go longer than 5 or 6 years will be rare now.

No one has won the Ultimate at SA in 60 years. Experienced coach with a reasonable CV and a new/old environment may help.whybother wrote:I dont think that we want Wright....hasnt succeeded with South. And Hurn is untried as a coach.

I agree. Wouldn’t be disappointed if he was appointed.

I have no idea, but Jarrad Wright, Scott Camporeale and Gavin Colville were the names that popped up in my head straight away.

I would take Campo in a heartbeat. Might get his sons over at the same time.

Yes I also agree that if Wright became available he should be considered
- He is the right age - not too young but not old enough that he can't relate to young players
- Has experience and would imagine a reasonable winning record (fwiw I don't buy into the debate that just because he couldn't win a GF despite getting his team into finals he isn't a decent coach)
- has played SANFL and AFL
- Is local
- Won't bamboozle part-time footballers with an overcomplicated game plan like AFL players recently out of the game
- Has a good track record of attracting decent recruits to his club
- Wouldn't be commencing the job with the attitude of using it as a tool to enable them to leave the club to become an AFL coach.

Was Sheedy full time? I didn't think he was.
Interesting that they've gone down the route of seeking the coach as a full-time role

I agree with you Titan2. Wright would be a good choice. Surely maturing as a coach. Would also be hungry for the ultimate success.
The job advert is very comprehensive, inclusive and quite (very) demanding. All we can hope is to get someone who comes very close to meeting all the criteria outlined.

Very specific in what they want.

Think Jeremy was keen to get experience as a coach in his own right, very good operator and good guy to boot, not sure if he would have all of the boxes ticked though.
Brent Reilly is the Goldy of South Adelaide, would be interesting if he saw coaching as an option or is looking more management type roles.
