Recruits for Season 2024
The Barton wrote:Good report, thanks Hawke.
Angus Poole will be playing for Lockleys this year after winning the premiership with Kadina. His mate VB has also quit Kadina and may play the odd game with Pooley. Maybe Goldy and Reddo can convince Pooley out of retirement too, that would be nice.
Both would be more than handy.

Poole would be about 30 now wouldn’t he? If he’s scratched that itch of a premiership back home, if I was the Eagles, I’d be knocking on his door to get him back.

Didn't know that he's retired. He's a school teacher off the field.Mickyj wrote:See Comma has retired I can’t spell his entire name will be in an off field roll

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
I think you'll find it's concussion related.
Jake has had a number of head knocks and concussions over the years and he missed the last part of 2023 as a result. I know he was and maybe still is concerned about CTE and this is a very topical subject at the moment. There's a number of AFL players in the same boat now and having extended breaks from the game.

If all goes well for Comma, he will be a handy recruit in 2025. Health comes before football, especially at a youngish age. Sensible.

That makes sense. Health has to come first. Massive choice though as it is something he loves doing.

David Brinker-Ritchie was at training last night, he was limping around, the minor surgery he had, a clean out of the knee went well and he is happy the issue has now been resolved.
There will be a scratch match at Football Park next Friday night.

Is the injury that DBR had/has due to all the ruck work that he had to do during 2023?

Wimpy, I presume the scratch match begins at 5.30pm - see you there.
Given that Jack Boyd won't be playing and knowing what we're getting with recruits Fleeton and Morris, the recruit I'm most interested to see what he brings is Luke McKay. Hoping he can step-up immediately to play a major role as Beattie did last season. And on Beattie, what theatre Fremantle is playing with Beattie's listing announcement - internally, they would have made a decision by now and I suspect have either told Max he's listed already and to keep it quiet till the final day or they will keep him unaware in a state of excitement and announce that he is listed at the last moment. Otherwise, it would be unnecessarily cruel to have him hanging on to hope to the very last and be rejected. But what an asset he would be for the Eagles for at least half the season until the midseason draft!

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Was reading that fremantle had their final scratch match today and a decision will be made after that. Reports are that all 3 train on players were poor. Reports from the other games are that Voss has been a standout. Mckenzie did his hamstring and hasn't played in any of the games. Last year both train on players were axed on 12th Feb so you'd thing the announcement would be imminenthawke wrote:wimpy wrote:

There's a couple of other guys training on Freo's list in exactly the same boat Hawke. I have also read a lot of reports suggesting that Voss is a lock for one of those spots so I think it's a 1 in 3 chance for Beattie.
I really hope that Beattie gets the opportunity but I have to say, I am a little surprised that they are drafting him as a small forward. He's not a forward. He's never going to be a Tyson Stengle. He's just been played there because he's young and slightly built. He's got all the attributes of a midfielder with the ability to kick a goal, however, the problem is that he's not tall enough or big enough to play as a midfielder in the AFL so unfortunately that's where they will try to make him some kind of forward pocket/flanker. Very few players can make it in that position and I fear he might suffer from the same thing that the Western Bulldogs did with Lachie McNeil which would be a shame.
