Interesting indeed.
I only say that as i thought tomorrow was the day they had to do it by unless I'm wrong.

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
"Duo Josh Corbett and Sebit Kuek have both been placed on the club's inactive list, opening up list spots for the club to trial SSP hopefuls.
Walls thanked Beattie, McKenzie and van Rooyen for their time with the club.
“They all showed AFL qualities with their attitudes and appetite for work,” Walls said.
“Unfortunately, Dan was injured during his time at Fremantle and we wish him well.
“Max and Sam did the whole pre-season and should be commended on their outstanding summers.
“We'll watch them closely and hopefully they will force themselves onto AFL lists.”
Clubs can choose to leave list spots open in favour of carrying a list vacancy through to the Mid-Season Draft."
David Walls is head of Player Personnel at Fremantle.
Does this mean that Beattie has missed out on a spot as an SSP with Fremantle.

Thanks Wimpy
Yes that is correct. What is means is that Freo decided to offer on 1 spot from the SSP to it's train on players rather than the 2 spots that it was entitled. They decided to go with the tall player Voss.
They do have a second spot on their list that they are going to keep open and potentially use it to pick up a player in the mid season draft.
They will keep an eye on Beattie and the other train on players but there is no reason why they couldn't pick any other well performing state league player who is dominating.
A better summary here https://www.afl.com.au/news/1076455/fremantle-dockers-sign-former-essendon-bombers-forward-patrick-voss-as-pre-season-supplementary-selection-period-signing
Hopefully Beattie comes back to the Eagles rather than stay in Perth. If so, there would be a massive incentive for him to play at 110% to try and get another look in

Thanks "Titan2" I came across the article on "Zero Hanger" and didn't have a chance to investigate further. I feel that Freo is keeping the one spot open and will reassess what they might need mid season.

I see him slotting nicely onto one wing with Herbert on the other. That should give us some dash up and down the field and decent delivery to our forwards.

Does anyone know if these train on players get any allowance or such. Max has devoted a fair chunk of his time there. for no result. Clubs should give some sort of reimbursement if they invite players over.

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Just as a matter of interest: Recently the SANFL did testing of U18 SANFL players, one player was outstanding and finished in the top 10 category of all five disciplines, That player was Zac Schwarz of the Eagles. People might remember his mum Vicki who used to read the the news on TV, can't remember which station. Saw him a couple of times last season as an underage 18 and looked very good, let's hope he turns in to a star.

Could only get a smile back from Zac so that's a guess that he's shy when asking who he is as he's been told who I'm before.

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Went to training/scratch match. From5.30 to 7.00 it was a normal solid training session, then there was a 2 x 25min match. Some who did not play were Ballenden, Thompson, Brinker-Ritchie, Goldsworthy, Josh Mawson, Jack Boyd and Riley Knight only played a half before leaving.
It was very difficult to pick out players, no numbers and a mixture of shorts.
Redden played and so did Max Beattie (2 goals).
Troy Menzel and Patrick Weckert were very good early, both ended up with 3 goals. Beecken had dash and a lot of the ball from half back. Josh Morris looked good and played well in the back lines. Joey S. was great, he is an inspiring captain. Jordan Moore looked a little lost.
Luke McKay did a couple of useful things but didn't get a lot of the ball. Will Neuman was noticeable with a couple of good dashes. Nathan Barkla showed plenty of dash and kicked the ball long. Cameron Fleeting did some good intercepts.
The game was played at a frenetic pace with the emphasis on getting the ball forward at any cost.
It was difficult to give an in depth summary because there were numerous U18 playings who I didn't know and only 50 minutes of game time.
Most encouraging was the form of Menzel, Weckert, Beecken and the experience of Redden.

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Maybe cos Jordan's still getting used to his role at his new club and yeah I'm actually looking forward to meeting him next week as I've got a mutual friend on the outside well sort of mutual friend that knows him through his old club who's a trainer. i only can guess what he's like without meeting him yet.wimpy wrote:Went to training/scratch match. Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Came away from last night's trial thinking we've got most positions covered except centre half back - Jordan Moore had some difficult moments against impressive 17 year old CHF Charlie West.
