I think McKay kicked a goal or more . No idea of numbers I got lost with who the players wereHeadfan wrote:Looks like inaccuracy cost our Reserves in losing by a point.
With the League, can anyone comment on how our recruits performed? McKay, Fleeton, Morris and Moore.
Also how did Weckert go?

They did put the goals and stats at the end of each quarter but wish it was commentary instead.

RESERVES:
EAGLES 4.0 6.4 9.5 9.10 64
DOGS 3.2 5.3 7.5 10.5 65
Goalkickers:
West 3
Davey 2
Arthur 1
Hudson 1
Watson 1
Toole 1
The reserves led well in to the last quarter but were finally over run.
In the last two minutes we had plenty of opportunities to set up a win but failed to execute skills.
Seventeen year old Charlie West was outstanding, and also kicked 3.2, should have had five goals but missed two relatively easy ones.
The poor bugger had to play CHF forward then go in to the ruck.
Unfortunately Niemann was killed in the ruck and this led to us losing the match.
We were undersized all over the ground.
I can see why Barkla is not in the league squad, at this stage he is just not good enough.

Re: Season 2024 trial games
I was disappointed with the league teams effort. We had a chance to kill off the Dogs in the first quarter, we had plenty of the ball but could not finish off anything. Our second quarter was deplorable, smashed in the mid-field and everywhere else.
One of our biggest problems for the last couple of years is our entry in to the forward area, very, very poor. Centrals sorties in to their forward area were generally precise and gave better opportunities to score.
A few comments on players:
Max Litster - I thought he was our best.
Luke McKay - Showed some good signs and can be a good kick. Must get used to the pace of the game and embrace playing on more often. Kicked one goal.
Zac Buck - played a very good 2nd half and kicked 2 goals.
Kade Herbert - not sighted in the first half but did a couple of nice things in the second half.
Cam Fleeton started to improve as the game went on, read the play better and started to hit targets.
Adam D'Aloia good again.
Josh Morris a good first half, rested a bit in the second half.
Jimmy Rowe - skills well down, and decision making a bit off.
Pat Weckert - just couldn't find the ball, 4 touches.
Sam Nicholls did some clever things, uses his head.
Sam Rowland - not sighted.
Jordan Moore - very, very average, not hard enough, kicking very poor.
Would have Firns and Ryan Bruce a head of him for a defensive position.
Zane Williams - don't know where his position is, tries to be too clever and stuff things up.
Jarrad Redden - was less effective this week, got found out by the big ground, got caught in one on one situations which he lost.
Will Neumann - felt sorry for Will. After a couple of encouraging performance his game was full of bad errors. Decision making and reflex situations were poor.
Lukas Cooke - he started to display aspects of his game that should give him a regular league game. Moved around the ground to act as a target, took a few marks and kicked two goals.
In my opinion he has to be persisted with.
Just a few thoughts.
I'm sure we can get better.
I thought it was a good opportunity to play Firns or Ryan Bruce in the league in defence and give Josh Morris a chance to play forward and see what he could give us. Kicking enough goals is one of our problems.

How did McGrath go in the reserves?? Just that we might talk about him on the phone during the week with the person who's son knows him.

Re: Season 2024 trial games
Thought Knighta, Joey, Bucky Goldy and Beecken were our better players yesterday.
Tough conditions yesterday, Centrals played 27 or 28 players across the game, we played 23, extra rotations probably helped them in the end.
As Wimpy mentioned we couldn't capitalise on opportunities in the 1st qtr and 2nd qtr wasn't good viewing.

Great to see our core players (incl D’Aloia) playing well. Hope the recruits and those that are injured come on board quickly. Want Weckert to start imposing himself.
No doubt we missed Ballenden

Re: Season 2024 trial games
The test will be Friday night in the last trial game before the real season starts. Hopefully the lights will be bright enough to see play via the app and not too far back. Yesterday's cameras were shocking in a way too far back at times, blairy at times. I tried chromecast, ipad and normal Android phone but ipad up the normal way worked the best out of them all.

Which of our Reserve/Development Squad players deserve a Round 1 League start based on performance in the trials so far?
