Re: WHAT DOES 2021 HOLD FOR THE EAGLES?
Dane McFarlane (Werribee) looks good on youtube clips. Medium size HB flanker/B pocket with rebound and good delivery. Mansell is another huge loss but Dane McFarlane would soften the loss. Has McFarlane signed up yet or are we just looking at him with other SANFL Clubs pursuing his services.
Eagles have now lost there 3 classy backmen (Jones, Wehr, Mansell) all of whom are quick, give rebound and are beautiful kicks. But full marks to them having signed up Mills, Rhys Mutch and (maybe) McFarlane to replace them.

Of course, it was Singer who referred Liam Whale -Buxton, the 197cm FF/ Rickman who trained and played one trial game before returning to Melbourne - someone said that Jade Sheedy thought that he wasn't better than what we already had with Von Bedtouch FF and Redden Hayes rucking.
So is this Whale- Buxton again "trying out" or another player that Ainger has referred?

Rhyan is 1 of 4 train on players at Richmond. He still may be back.Reddeer wrote:Disappointed in the news at the members Christmas night that Rhyan Mansell has been invited to Richmond and will probably be rookie listed by them. So another one probably gone
But four more recruits announced as well

Re: WHAT DOES 2021 HOLD FOR THE EAGLES?
Does that mean we have to wait for the Pre-season draft to find out. The wait for a decision may jeopardise our chances of getting Dane McFarlane as Dane would probably want certainty where he's going to be, sooner than later. Also, if Mansell misses out, there's no certainty that he will return to Eagles.goddy11 wrote:Rhyan is 1 of 4 train on players at Richmond. Wouldn't he just play for the richmond reserves until the mid season draft. The club have announced 4 recruits so they are a done deal

The 2 Jake's are heading to Alberton.
Sad to see them move on but understandable on both accounts.
The landscape has changed, the time commitment required to play SANFL now is too great if the opportunities for playing at the top level are limited, probably could have commanded some good coin in the country.
Both of them are good guys, hope they can get a regular spot and save their dirty days for when we play them.

Not sure about those two, nothing from the club saying they have gone.

Regarding Mansell it's not rookie at all it's training with the club for supplementary list selection between Jan 6th and 9th of March so get it correct as its on a post somewhere this morning

Re: WHAT DOES 2021 HOLD FOR THE EAGLES?
Richmond have 2 rookie selections that can be taken either through supplementary training period which expires prior to start of season or later through the mid season draft

Re: WHAT DOES 2021 HOLD FOR THE EAGLES?
Yes correct. He is on the Richmond Supplementary list, to train over the pre-season. Its just a list to check out if a player is required later as a rookie. Adelaide Crows have 2 on their list. It doesn't guarantee selection on their rookie list. Richmond has 4 players including a West Adelaide player. If not selected they go on with what ever is available. The AFL rules allow for players to get picked up later in the year so most SANFL clubs are not safe from the AFL raiders.Eagles35 wrote:Regarding Mansell it's not rookie at all it's training with the club for supplementary list selection between Jan 6th and 9th of March so get it correct as its on a post somewhere this morning

Re: WHAT DOES 2021 HOLD FOR THE EAGLES?
The number available for Richmond to select depends on whether Soldo goes on to the long term injury list. Richmond might have up to 3 spots to fill.

Kai Pudney still training with Eagles, was training last night.
Luey S. at training. Jordan West training but is recovering from injury, has put on a bit of weight.

Ethan H. training. I think he is a valuable player for the Eagles, only if it's for depth. Thought his last few appearances in the reserves were quite good. Haylock kicked 26 goals in 2018, had a very good season.

Re: WHAT DOES 2021 HOLD FOR THE EAGLES?
Shaz was injured a few games this year and the fact that he would've only got a league game only if someone got injured I'm guessing

Re: WHAT DOES 2021 HOLD FOR THE EAGLES?
It's good having depth (to cover injuries) and especially now, with the AFL picking off talent with pre-season drafts and midyear drafts. But how much and to what consequence. Take wingmen for example - at present, Goldsworthy and Toumpas would be 1st choice. Then 1st replacement (questionable order) might be Chris Hall or Comitogianni or Pudney 4th replacement Haylock. ie those 4 play Seconds and that's only the wingmen Then you repeat the process for HBs, HFs etc. Where are this year's good 4-5 U18s (left after AFL pickings) going to fit in? Might see a few more mature good Seconds players being encouraged to look elsewhere with Eagles best wishes. Always sad but unavoidable.
But good for the Club that the competition to get on our list will be fierce.

hawke wrote:Gazz, you mentioned (above) about our strong future with the Seconds Premiership but there were a few mature players in that team that played well and won't get any better. The Club perhaps saw this and went and recruited heavily outside the club compared to the previous year. Some of those players have to be moved on to make way for emerging youth from the U18s. Better to have a Seconds team that finishes 4th with 6-7 young players of real potential.
Spoke to Shane Reardon at training last night in regard to last season U18's now training with the seniors. He said we only recommended that five would be suitable to continue training on with the seniors, normally there would be 12-14. The lower numbers this pre-season could be put down to not as many quality players and a preference to play more 17 year olds that could again play in 2021.
Still think we are in very good hands with Sheedy and Reardon.

Re: WHAT DOES 2021 HOLD FOR THE EAGLES?
Fully agree on Sheedy and Reardon. 5 players as train on is still fairly good. We lost some quality in the draft from that group.wimpy wrote:hawke wrote:Gazz, you mentioned (above) about our strong future with the Seconds Premiership but there were a few mature players in that team that played well and won't get any better.
