FUTURE OF SANFL 2021
I think the coronavirus will have a major effect on the SANFL.
For a start, I doubt if we will see the crows and power with a team in the SANFL, it would just cost too much. Also, it looks pretty certain that AFL clubs will have a reduced number of players on their lists to cut costs. I reckon in the future, players who don't get selected in their AFL team will be farmed out to local SANFL clubs, similar to what happened previously.
Any other thoughts.

Good thread Wimpy. I am most worried about the survival of our club. Maybe a bit more reality in player payments. At least we may end this season undefeated.

There are clubs worse off that the Eagles as at least we are debt free. Still very much a concern and things will certainly change. Players are not being paid until games start again. I feel for the young lads that have uprooted and moved to SA to try and further their football careers. Hopefully they get a root in compensation. Kurt certainly knew when to get out!

Like my mother said last night someone who's got a lot of money or won't miss money will help out somehow that's what people seem to do in crisis

It’s not looking too flash at the moment.
The more the government increase the restrictions, May 31 looks like being nothing more than another date on the calendar.

Watching tonight's news regarding Centrals needing to find $250k to keep running. They have lost all their revenue streams. Do we know if the Eagles are in a similar position. Pokies and dining are affected. Not sure how sponsors are reacting.

I would rather everyone do the cautious thing and start when we are all safe . It driving me crazy but it is what it is. I had a hip replacement on the 24th Feb so I may have missed the 1st game anyway although I am moving well now but have not had he ok to drive.
Great introduction to Christine Williams as President. Baptism of fire.

Apparently a former CEO of Eagles was told by the SANFL that chances of the season going ahead are highly unlikely and given events of last 2 weeks i'd say now... no chance.

I would say that everything we once knew may be in doubt let alone football

I think after what happened in the VFL our AFL sides here will not have sanfl teams maybe revert to the old way .

Re: FUTURE OF SANFL 2021
Heard the President of Sturt on the wireless this morning. Spoke very highly of Jake (let's make no decision) Parkinson and the Sturt people who are also part of the SANFL. Duldig was one. Misguided faith I'm afraid Sue. Anyway, she felt May 31 was "very ambitious" and if the SANFL season does commence it will most certainly be in a reduced format. Heard Peter Carey yesterday and he said similar and possibility of no season at all.

Come on boys, make some noise.
Quiet on here in isolation. Sick of reading about other clubs.
Im thinking the SANFL should start their comp in country towns or local ovals with no crowds but work out a television deal that gives the a cash injection. We could go national and make a killing(in a financial way that is.) They would love to see any sport and it would be a good promo for our comp.

Yes it is quiet on here
Very good idea goddy11
From what I’ve heard of the AFL we as the SANFL could sell to the US market
I’m hoping we can get some footy this year but I think next year maybe .
Channel 7 is so desperate for sport in the sports news they showed wrestling
Should be room for the sanfl

It might be a good place to showcase potential draft prospects. The recruiters do not have to travel here. Our players just have to focus on local quarantines.

Re: FUTURE OF SANFL 2021
Noarlunga Oval, Elizabeth Oval, Richmond Oval and Norwood Oval would all be available for footy through summer wouldn't they?
8 teams, 14 Rounds, top 4 and 3 weeks of finals.
South share Noarlunga with Glenelg.
West share Richmond with the Eagles.
Central share Elizabeth with North.
Norwood share The Parade with Sturt.
As long as its finished by February, so 2021 can start again in April, so season can begin as late as November!

Great plan. All the grounds could do night games. Maybe double headers. Good for TV as well. It would also allow the 2's and U19 a go. I do hate the parking at Richmond though.

Im lucky at Richmond seeing we are neighbours.
Only issue with parking has been during the AFLW matches cars all the way back to library council building .
I guess we will have to wait and find out
