Re: Recruits for Season 2024
I am glad that JF is playing on. Not the best skills, but makes up for it with hardness etc. He seemed to be out of favour with Sheedy, so lets see how a new coach assesses him.

Yes, agreed, we just need to find the right role for Jack and leave him there.
He showed what he's capable of in the 2021 GF when surrounded by quality players who lifted him.

Glad to hear that he's playing on. I've known him through his under 18's days. Max Beattie currently works with him as a builder or something in that line as Max and I've talked about what we do for work during the season.

Jack works for Top Stairs.
Builds stairs.
Hopefully he builds us a set that gets us back up to the top level quickly !

I thought he was doing the same job but who knows these days as he's been doing it for a few years or so. But Max has joined him

I had known that he has worked in that sort of job but didn't know if he was still there or not.

You know the players and they know you . I’ve learnt to not doubt what you have told me over time .

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
The Crows have got their way by the looks of it. I will not renew my WWTFC membership now. Just been waiting to see how we fought the AFL. Its bad enough when the AFL steals our best kids but when the SANFL helps them I'm through.

It really should be how it's meant to be unlike this. Do we get $$ from the crows in this situation if not it's unfair

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
This part makes me angrier.
Arrangements are believed to include if he is not selected for Adelaide's SANFL team then Welsh will be able to play for the Woodville-West Torrens reserves or under-18s teams.

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
I so can't wait for the afl based teams in the SANFL to go as the professional players shouldn't have to play against amerture players or whatever it is who work or study or both and give up their lives which u don't hear them complaining about and the afl players don't work or some don't and they have so much time up their sleeve

Here’s part of what it says on the AFL Facebook page

His time at the Crows will extend throughout the season in between his commitments with the state under-18s program, including through the national championships, and the AFL Academy.

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Unfortunately, it makes absolute sense for Welsh to spend the year developing at the Crows.
What has never made sense, is the AFL teams in the SANFL.
This arrangement, of Welsh being able to play for Eagles Reserves or U18's when not picked for the Crows is a good one.
In my opinion, this is how the State Leagues should approach the AFL, with regard to an AFL Reserves competition, for the betterment of the game at all levels in the future.
- AFL main list sizes should shrink.
- AFL Reserve top ups should be players Under 21 from the same state as the club and they should have a 3-year education with their AFL club, part time football, part time further education/trade.
- The top ups should maintain ties with their original club, as in the Welsh example, but if good enough, could play League football.
- The salary saved from the reduction of list sizes should be spread to State League Clubs and Top Up Squads and should be in the range of $800k.
I completely understand your anger goddy. I gave the AFL Reserves thing a go for one season back in 2014 and after that spat the dummy and gave up my membership. I couldn't stay mad for long though!
