Fremantle have already filled one of their two SSP vacancies.
Max is fighting for one spot.

We don’t want to go where the perennial salary cap cheats Norwood go!
I think we should be OK. A slight increase in the cap this year.
With Collier-Dawkins, Clay Cameron, Mitch Hardie, Jimmy Toumpas, Jesse Lonergan, Dan Menzel and Kai Pudney all gone I think this would have opened up a fair bit of space.
Don't forget our very hands on president is a qualified accountant and would be all over it.
Thanks wimpy. Feel better now.

Zac Phillips and Rory Lehmann definitely gone.
Jimmy Rowe at training tonight, not training of course, left early for an anti biotic drip.
Max Beattie leaves tomorrow for Freo. Said three going for the one spot.

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Ironical- we (I included) wanted the "tall player" deficit fixed, and it has, but our midfield now needs urgent attention. Streptococcal joint infection may keep Jimmy away for 3 months with severe wasting of quad muscles, then lacks the preseaon fitness to carry him through the season at his standard. Therefore we have 3 known midfielders Sinor, Knight, D'Aloia ready to go (if they don't get injured) when every good club vying for Finals has 6 minimum ! And we won't find them in the Seconds or U18s ready for next season! Hope we've got a couple of recruits still to come!)

I’m sure our recruiters are onto to this.Premiers wrote:Ironical- we (I included) wanted the "tall player" deficit fixed, and it has, but our midfield now needs urgent attention. Players who may step up include:
Luke McKay, Josh Mawson, Dane McFarlane, Sam Nicholls, Nathan Barkla, Zane Williams, Goldy, Zac Buck, Kade Herbert, Jay Watson, Lucas Cooke.

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Headman,
Of that list, only Luke McKay, who we haven't tested but hopefully may fill that role well.
Of the others, you can't be serious! Not good enough for the very key on baller role!
(Herbert on the wing, Nicholas in the forw pocket, Goldy in a number of positions but NOT onball)

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
I listed these players who may have to be used to fill holes especially if no appropriate recruits be sourced.Premiers wrote:Headman,

I agree that some of them aren’t ready-made on-ball types.
Don’t under-sell Josh Mawson, Nathan Barkla, even Jay Watson!
Barkla says he would like to emulate Connor Rozee.

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
I'm not underselling those players - they each can play a very important role eg Sam Nicholls showed some impressive forw pocket work, Mawson also has shown promise in the back pocket. But it is a huge step up to the midfield role and may well be our "Achilles Heel" in 2024.
( May 2025 see us with Hardy, Mansell and McNeil ! )

I’m a glass half full person and just maybe we’ll unearth a future mid-fielder or on-baller type from existing stocks.Premiers wrote:I'm not underselling those players - they each can play a very important role eg Sam Nicholls showed some impressive forw pocket work, Mawson also has shown promise in the back pocket. Don’t understand the Mansell and McNeil mentions as I consider them more outside types who may never return anyway.

Jacobs is definitely going to have to unearth one or two of the lesser likes to become good contributors in the midfield. You could say we have three top liners in Sinor, Rowe and Knight. D'Aloia not far away. Beattie if he plays, similar to D'Aloia, you'd expect he'll improve. Barkla and McKay unknowns. I think Beecken could step up and maybe Williams, who has the class. Hopefully some of the younger guys, with another pre-season under their belts could make quick gains. I think you need 8-10 decent midfielders on the list throughout a season to contend and to compensate for injuries/AFL drafting etc.

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Should have read"staphylococcal", not "streptococcal". Streptococcal might be a new Italian recruit who plays in the back pocket with a sore throat.

Of the recruits only Nathan Barkla is training at the moment. Don't know when the rest will arrive.
I don't know the others competing with Max Beattie for the last SSP spot at Freo.
Talking to Rowey last night he's fairly confident the doctors have the infection under control. Appears to have lost quite a bit of weight. I can assure supporters his knee is back to normal size. Still has a significant limp.
Patrick Weckert was at training last night.

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Another new one at training. Max Beattie's friend Isaac McGrath who played in the Ovens and Murray league for the Albury Tigers and went to Centrals for the 2023 season is now training with the Eagles.
Won the O&M rising star award in 2022.
Only played reserves at Centrals - 18 games 4 goals.
Unsure what position he plays. Don't know if he is good enough to play league.
Just didn't like it at Centrals.

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
19yo Max Beattie’s competition at Fremantle are:
Sam van Rooyen - 18yo key forward from Claremont Colts,
Patrick Voss - 20yo key forward who won Essendon’s VFL B&F this year. Now delisted.

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Thanks Headfan, for that info.
Let's hope Freo go for the local Claremont boy and avoid the "go home" factor.
Freo have shown that they're not averse to picking up shorter players - was it Byron Schammer (174 cm something). a few years ago, that they picked up from West Adelaide and he served them well ?

The most disturbing part is that Freo lost a gun small forward in Lachie Schultz to Collingwood.
