Werribee has gained one of the VFL’s most promising young talls with the signature of Jack Boyd for 2023.
The 21-year-old arrives at Avalon Airport Oval after playing every game for the Northern Bullants over the past two seasons.
Having split his time between attack and the ruck a year ago the 196cm Northern Knights product spent more time as a permanent forward in 2022.
He booted 24 goals this season including a career-best four majors against Carlton in round 10 before rounding out the campaign with an impressive 22-possession game at Werribee.
Werribee football manager Mark Micallef said Boyd’s signing was an exciting coup for the club.
“Jack’s a good athlete with a strong set of hands,” he said.
“We see him mainly as a key forward but he’s also capable of playing in the ruck where he can provide a strong presence around the ball.
“As a forward we think he can establish a really good partnership with Hudson Garoni but we’re also excited by the look of our forward line with the other options we have up there.”
Looks a good signing. Didn't think we would sign mark bradtkes son given he was best mates with riley collier dawkins
On the downside he couldn't make Werribees GF team

Well done, MichaelScott for that research on Werribee's GF team. The only level-headed supporter amongst us!
Succeeded in bursting my euphoric bubble of optimism for Jack Boyd! Do you know why he was not selected? Maybe returning from injury or underdone??

Hey i don't know but he seemed to play a lot of the season around wing/centre with so so stats and then went missing for the last few games. There isn't much information re: VFL on the web. He was emergency for the GF

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Just saw this on Facebook
The Woodville West Torrens Football Club will welcome home Eagles junior Nathan Barkla for season 2024.
19 year old Barkla was a member of our 2021 U18s Premiership team, and through Port Adelaide's Next Generation Academy was selected as a Category B rookie at the 2022 Rookie Draft - going on to play 18 League SANFL games for Port.
We look forward to the midfielder/defender having a big impact for the Eagles in 2024.
Join us in welcoming home Nathan Barkla.

Watched an interview of Barkla when he was drafted. Was asked the embarrassing question of "what do you think are your strengths". He said that it was his speed and delivery so ................

Centrals have recruited a gun small forward from Port Melbourne...probably their best player..he's the sort of player we should be looking at

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Footywire has Barkla listed as 190cm 79kg but another site had him at 187cm 75kg ( ? grew a lot in one year!). Either way, he has good height for a running position of wing, HB or HF. He is one of the few examples where the Eagles benefited from him being taken as a Category B rookie because he would not have got the opportunity to play 18 league games for us last season and now comes to us with the benefit of experience. Could just add depth but also might surprise.

I’m told the club has contacts at Werribee as Hayes and Luke Jarrad guess our reach didn’t get to port Melbourne

This is an example of one of our draftees coming home which for myself is a great sign

Re the Port Melbourne lad, can't get them all and still think key position players should be the priority. Having said that Sam Lowson would be handy

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
In an interview the young Barkla said he would like to be like Rozee and/or Butters. Similar height and body, only needs the same level of skill, endeavour and performance. Plenty of improvement left in this player.

Sam turned 28 last month. Don’t think this Premiership player would be in our best interests. Still worried about that big knee brace he wore in the GF.

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Just with this one signing - Jack Boyd, we are structurally 100% better.
I can see a forward set up of:
FF: Cooke Boyd Beattie
HF: Pearce Ballenden Rowe/Menzel
I think with the inclusion of Boyd, this will help Cooke develop.
We still must be very selective in our recruiting making sure there are still enough positions, hence incentives for our juniors, this is why I think Firns, Comma and Goldy should retire.

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Heard a rumour this morning from a very unreliable source but it still concerns me.
Word is that the Crows are looking to Rookie list Jack Boyd.
I hope my source is wrong as he often is.
They already took Toby Murray from under our noses.
Surely not....

22 year old key defender Jordan Moore will join the Eagles for season 2024, crossing over from Glenelg.
Standing at 196cm, the former SA State U18s junior possesses great closing speed and footy smarts that will be a key addition to our side next year.
Let's welcome Jordan Moore to our Eagles family!!!

Glad to see we are getting moore (pun intended) height in to the club. I would expect the CHB from the U18s, Oscar Pearce (197cm) to add even more height depth.
An avid Glenelg friend said this about Jordan Moore "Goes OK but couldn't get a league game, not the worst recruit. Without Pink, Proud etc he most probably would have got a league game in 2024." I think he might have played about 7 league games over a 3-4 year senior career.

So good he’s getting a good review from a Glenelg fan

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Jordan Moore's CV of mainly Seconds games doesn't suggest that he'll be a walk up success CHB - I was hoping for a defender with stronger credentials. We want someone to be an instant success, not a developing - hopefully our recruiters have got it right.
Probably didn't cost a lot leaving salary cap space for a ruckman and midfielder.
Wimpy, IMHO, Oscar Pearce is a long way off challenging a league spot - may struggle to consolidate a Seconds position.

Murray is not rookied. He is in the SANFL squad. The Crows barely have a rookie spot open. They need to move someone off the main list soon to the Rookie list to pick up their 3, 1st round picks as well as James Borlace is promised a rookie spot.
