Re: THE 2022 SEASON
Pudney certainly has improved his possession numbers but doesn't hurt the opposition enough, especially when in close. Hopefully, this will come.

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
Any talk about enticing any of the NTFL players from the game down to oval ave for 2022?

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
When there's no SANFL info to read at this time of the year , useless trivia comes to mind. Like who might be available to our Club in 2023. I'm unsure whether the following players have had the length of their contacts extended beyond 2022, making next season a very important year. Those players are:
Jacob Wehr (Sydney, very unlucky to not be able to show his ability during the suspended secondary comp)
Josh Morris (Hawthorn), Cam Ellis Yolmen (Brisbane - other issues at present), Schofield (Port Power), Mead (Port Power) Friedrichs (Port Power) and Henry Smith ( although may be considered a "project player"). In addition, Jungfer who planned to be away on a WA cattle station for 2 years didn't rule out that it might be shortened to 12 months and that he would like to play again at the Eagles at some stage. RE the AFL players, of course, there is no tie for them to return to the Eagles e.g. Schofield, if delisted, would he consider returning to his home city Perth?

And Jimmy Rowe possibly - can't see him having a long AFL career but you never know
Other draftees from 2020 (Mansell, Jones, etc) have probably done enough to get another contract at this stage

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
To Reddeer, I think it's surprising that ANY of them come back. After playing at the top level, or having a "crack" (on the AFL list) and being delisted, why not take it easy, pick up more money with less commitment and play for a country team or lesser comp?
......................unless that player has a good connection with the players at the club and the club itself. Of the players listed above, Wehr, Smith and Jungfer (at least) appeared to have that feeling with family connections and junior involvement. In contrast, the Port Power exEagles lads may see the Eagles as having been a mere "stepping stone" to AFL, but time will tell and they may return also.
Reckon James Rowe will be another who has some "feel" for the Club and will come back once his AFL career is finished.
There are some players that seem to liven up the Club with their "bubbly" personalities and are important to have around (besides their playing ability). James Rowe was one, James Tsitas and Seb Guilhaus are others.

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
Agree Hawke, you need those blokes that are a bit left field to keep things a bit light.
James Rimmington fitted that mould as did Joe Pedler.
I'm glad Seb has decided to give it another crack, you wont find many others as fit as him and Tsitas in the competition ad as you say both great to have around.
Just on Jimmy Rowe, he looks to have had a big pre-season, looked very different in a pic I saw recently.

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
I think you'll find Jordan West is officially gonski.
Couldn't get his body right, will be interesting to see if he surfaces elsewhere.
Certainly not as resilient as his Uncle Jim.
And what about Stephen Mills, hasn't been spotted at training this year to my knowledge.

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
Jordan West's prospects of playing League this year greatly lessened with the arrival of Seb Guilhaus.
With Jarrad Redden taking the No. 1 rucking spot and the Eagles not able to field 2 tap ruckmen who can't play other positions, Seb is going to see a lot of time in the Seconds if Redden stays injury-free. I hope Seb can maintain his enthusiasm playing Seconds and not walk away half-way through the season when he sees his form as warranting selection but continually missing out. Centrals, Glenelg and West would welcome Seb leading their rucks.
When Jarrad is "carrying" an injury into games (as ruckmen do), perhaps the Eagles will more readily rest Jarrad, give Guilhaus a run, and allow Redden to recover more quickly (win:win).
We certainly need Seb for "ruckman insurance". From what Connor Ballenden showed in Darwin, he may be handy around the ground and up forward but lacks the body strength (despite his 200cm) to be able to consistently have a strong presence at ruck contests in SANFL as Redden, Brooksby, Harvey, Guilhaus etc do. It's great to have a ruckman like Redden who isn't going to be shifted when he plants himself beneath the ball and, in that respect, has taken over from retired Norwood ruckman Baulderstone last season in giving us first look most times.

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
Went to training Monday night, no West running the boundary, suggestions he might have tossed in the towel. Looked no where near fit.
Saw Mills early on at training but can't really remember seeing him after the Xmas break. Don't think he was really up to league standard.

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
Unfortunate for Westy, just couldn't stay fit. He showed in the reserves grand final a few years back that he had alot of promise, almost single handedly dragged us back into a game that was all but gone, maybe a return to the boards might be on the cards.
Stephen Mills has pulled up stumps to spend time doing other things in life.

With Mills moving on it frees up the coveted number 11 again for Allmond.

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
At least we have lost Jack Hayes pre season and not mid. Good luck, hope he goes well then comes home for a flag or two. Sheeds and co will adapt and keep us ultra competitive with what we have no doubt

Hopefully Freeman goes well from an Eagles fans perspective .
I wonder if our clubs thought if we lose Tsitas should we sign Freeman up just a though .

If not picked up by Gold Coast I think he would go back to Frankston (VFL) where he had a great last season, just as we would expect Tsitas to come back to the Eagles if not picked up!!!!!

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
Congrats to Tsitas and Hayes. Our two best players gone! Huge blow, but they thoroughly deserve it. At least we’ve gone through pre-season without them and can prepare accordingly. I don’t think we can replace these two - it will have to be a different functioning Eagles team this year. A massive challenge this season. Can’t wait for Round 1!

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
Just when we thought we had done pretty well to escape being crueled in the draft now we lose our two best performers. Magarey Medallist and runner up. Congratulions in order for both Jack and James they are both better than sanfl and woukld definitely be much better off financially but it brings the Eagles right back to the pack. 3 peat Hmm??

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
Some Interstate reports on Tsitas give me the irrits.
No mention at all of him playing in 2 premierships and winning a Magarey Medal in 32 games on the trot with the Eagles. They revert back to him as Geelong VFL Captain which is out of date. Shouldn't expect anything different.

What would you expect from the afl, victoria centric. SANFL doesn't exsist in its thinkingThe Barton wrote:Some Interstate reports on Tsitas give me the irrits.
