Re: THE 2022 SEASON
On Saturday our starting line up was:
Firns........... D. Menzel...........W. Pearce
McFarlane.... Cameron...........Williams
Goldy.............Clarke...........Allmond
Duval............Thompson..........Beecken
Litster............Lehmann...........Mead
RUCK: Ballenden, Rowland, Knight
INTER: Comma, Hardie, Pudney, Buck.
OUT: Mutch, Sinor, Redden, Guilhaus, Lonergan, Toumpas, Troy Menzel.
I thought Litster's third game for the club on Saturday was terrific. Will Pearce showed a lot of promise and has a good future. Zac Buck probably played his best game showing a lot of composure. These three, along with Williams, Beecken, Pudney and Mead are making sure the club has good young depth. Showing promise in the reserves are Cooke, Wheare and Hoile who could eventually make it.

And then in is the absolute folly of having the afl in the comp for the practice of their professional overpaid players. So much for a level playing field. What crapgoddy11 wrote:Dont like this

Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane. Given his history with rehab he is no guarantee to play though. He will be dangerous if he does play and he'll take our best defender. Grossly unfair for the boys that work full time doing manual labour coming up against a guy like this that has all day to look at himself in the mirror.

If the ball hits the ground he will be useless. Has no desire to chase and can't turn quickly. Hopefully Thomo is on him

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
It's already been stated by the Ferals that Tarzan won't play a full game anyway.
He has his usual appointment with his Manicurist at 4pm that he has to make, followed by a foot massage. Heard on the wireless this morning that a couple of other names were training with the PP Reserves Squad but I missed who they were.
Expecting at least 3 changes to this weeks team again with Mutch and Sinor available to play but Allmond out with a Hammy. We just can't get a settled side this year.

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
Following the first game of the season, Jarrad Redden's hip complaint was reported to need 3-4 weeks to recover. Now 5 weeks later, it is still listed as 3-4 weeks. Originally when Seb Guilhaus's syndesmosis ankle injury was listed as 10 weeks from the trial game incident, we thought that was a long time but it now Seb may be back before Jarrad.
Jarrad's hip joints carry a big load and hope it's not a degenerative hip injury which might suggest the end of the season/career.
Eagles have to scrape through the next 4 tough matches against Port, Adelaide, South and Sturt. Have to win 2 of those to keep us in the mix. Gonna be tough without our ruckmen back! Win 3 out of the 4 and we'll be looking good for a crack at the top 3.

Don't forget we should always be very wary of covid hitting the team!!!!

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
Just having a look at the list of players the Eagles have parted with since the end of the 2019 season. The large number of players now gone from the Eagles show what a magnificent effort has been done by Sheedy and the rest of the crew to win two premierships and be very competitive in 2022.
End of 2019 onwards: Boyd and Johansen (most probably not required). Lewis (retired) and Petrenko (retired too early).
K. Pickett, H. Schoenberg, J. Mead, J. Morris, M. Frederick and T. Burgoyne (national draft).
End of 2020 onwards: Hall and Sharrad (over the hill).
J.Foote (back to Sydney). Lowson and N. Hayes (to Melbourne).
L. McNeil, J. Rowe, R. Mansell, L. Jones, J. Wehr, C. Poulter, H. Smith and T. Scholfield (all national draft).
2021 mid-season draft: C. Sharman
End of 2021 onwards: Giuffreda (retired), Seymour (to Norwood), von Bertouch, Poole, Jungfer and West (retired).
Stengle (free agency), J. Burgoyne (national draft)
J. Tsitas and J Hayes (Pre- season supplemental selections).
2022 mid-season draft: Z. Williams.
Quite a lot of playing power gone.
Let me know if I've missed anyone of significance.

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
Some really good players gone there. I notice Von Bertouch playing well. I would have him back.
Wimpy, you might need to refresh my memory but the lad that played forward in 2020 from Seaton Ramblers, I think. Played a fair bit of the season them dropped towards the end of the year.

Very accurate assessment as always Wimpy.
Certainly a large churn rate of players, mostly beyond our control I might add.
Might need to add Ethan Haylock to the departure lounge now and Dale Pearce (not that he played League).
The Eagles Football Factory continues to deliver some fantastic young ones coming up through the ranks - the likes of Litster, Buck, Beecken, Williams, Pearce, Hoile, Mead, Phillips...and then guys like Phillipou and D'Aloia likely to be part of the next wave of up and comers.

"goddy11" was the player league or reserves?
There was a young player named Jordan Kasianowicz who kicked 7 goals in one reserves match, but a little bit later in the season he was dropped back to his junior club Seaton Ramblers and is still playing there. I thought he could have been given more chances, I liked the way he went about his game but was very small.

Thanks Wimpy. Columbo answered my question. I was Tristan Carcuro. Was showing potential but I suppose the arrival of the Menzel's made his chances slim.

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
Just a question to any of you that attended the night game a couple of weeks ago. I was speaking to a mate and he mentioned he had trouble seeing across the ground. In fairness he was sitting in the cricket club. I thought the game came across well on the SANow but he said others had a poor comment on the lighting. I haven't been to a game this year although I have a seasons pass. I had Covid in January badly and followed this up with a blood clot in the chest so my mobility was poor but luckily is slowly getting better. I want to go to a game soon but will not go to a night game if the lighting is poor. My mate was told that CA or SACA or whoever gave them (the cricket club) poor info on the Lux requirement.

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
I was a little disappointed with the quality of lighting. Just wondering if some of the lamps could be redirected. The centre area appeared reasonably bright. I was told the lamps could be redirected to cater for different areas requiring extra light for either football or cricket.
The Woodville Oval lights were installed to meet cricket Australia's lighting requirements to play cricket to the level of district Premier League. Since then Cricket Australia has raised the level of intensity of lighting for the Premier League level, this decision now makes it not playable for Premier League. It is still suitable for levels below. To increase the intensity of lighting it would need a major upgrade of the street infra structure costing a significant amount. I think the level of lighting will remain the same.

I thought from my viewpoint there was a dark spot on the outer side, and that the pockets looked quite good, but found it much easier to see than Norwood or Richmond. Apparently from the players perspective on the ground it is excellent though.
It's interesting that the CA rules for cricket are different for underage or womens games, speed of bowling a reason perhaps?

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
The reason for the change we were told was that the speed of the ball off the super powerful bats made it dangerous for bowlers and umpires!!!!!!!

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
An incredible turnover of players and to remain competitive and in my opinion, still be a good chance to finish top 3 with the potential to beat any one this season, is full credit to Sheedy, the development program and the list management at the club. Also testament to the hunger and will of the core group of senior players who ultimately make the difference between a win and a loss when a game is up for grabs.
Re the lights - it wasn’t very good to watch on the digital pass, but that was also to do with the clash of the splash of yellow on the Crows indigenous guernsey and the mish-mash that is our yellow guernsey. The dark pockets were noticeable. I’d hope most of our League games are kept as day games, but the better lights handy for training and lower grade matches.

Would be interesting to see a night game on 7, quality of equipment used is far superior to the DP gear.

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
Yesterday Sat June 11th. Port vs Centrals, Port fielded 6 players 198cm plus. And they could all play -and were good movers including their midseason draftees 203cm Teakle. Eagles have 2 players over 198cm and one of them (Redden) isn't a good mover although we value his good ruckwork. Hopefully, Port won't make it to the finals and stretch us.
Hopefully, next season we can pick up another 198 plus mobile tall ( a la Sam Skinner type) while retaining Ballenden for 2023. Has anyone heard how
Henry Smith has performed in his 2nd year on AFL list ?

Re: THE 2022 SEASON
Went to Thebby Oval on Sunday to watch the State's U16s (five players) and U18's (four players) play and see how the Eagles youngsters perform at this level.
I hope I'm not getting overly excited at this stage of his career but Tyler Welsh (father Scott) was sensational at CHF, kicked 4 goals 2points to be probably best for SA. An excellent mark, beautiful long kick, runs well and appears to have footy nous. Reminded me a lot of a young Lukosius but better high mark.
My hope is that he gets some league games as an U18 in 2024 before he gets drafted.
He is eligible to be a father/son for the Crows.
Jett Hasting and Harry Dodd also turned in credible performances.
Adam D'Aloia and Mattaes Phillipou were again very good players for SA U18s.
Nathan Barkla (Eagles), wing/halfback took my eye, a very smooth mover and used the ball well. He might not get drafted but could turn in to an excellent player for the Eagles.
