Re: WHAT DOES 2021 HOLD FOR THE EAGLES?
Thanks re training time. Might confirm with Club.
Noticed that Eagles again have only 2 external trials compared with other Clubs' 3 (except for Glenelg). Seems to have been the case for past 3 years. Query whether the Eagles have been happy with this and are happy with an extra internal trial ?

Good move by Sheedy if you ask me. Keep it simple. In his mind he knows how the side will line up match 1 , give or take. Minimise exposure to injury and try as many as you can.

Re: WHAT DOES 2021 HOLD FOR THE EAGLES?
If last year is a good example, coach Sheedy had pretty well settled on his line up well before the start of the season. Likes to have lots of half oval mini games and generally finished most trainings with these little matches. Last season Sheedy had to assess about 60 players, this season he will have to assess a lot less, his first season last year will be invaluable for him this season.

I asked Asfaha how long before he was doing normal training. He said "two weeks" which is great progress if it happens.

Will be great to see him back, one of the worst injuries I have seen happen live and in probably the strangest way.

Re: WHAT DOES 2021 HOLD FOR THE EAGLES?
Given that Jones, Wehr and Mansell with their pace, rebound and top disposal were a tremendous asset last season and now we have lost them, would the Eagles be interested at this late stage in making a play for Angus Baker of the Canberra Demons?
191cm, 87kg, quick, rebounding HB (can play flank position), good intercept mark (covers the loss of Lachie Jones) and a bit of a gun (watch youtube clips), won NEAFL Rising Star award. If so, they better be quick 'cause South Adelaide are right on to it. He's possibly waiting to see if he's picked up by an AFL team in the supplementary draft but South supporters think he's amenable to coming to Adelaide.
Dane McFarlane would probably take one half-back flank, the other flank at present might be wide open with Sam Rowland, the excellent defender that he is, he is not a running rebounding type and probably ideally play deeper in the back pocket. Does that give Jungfer or Rhys Mutch an opportunity or, (from left-field) one of the Menzel boys if they're both fit (with the other Menzel playing HF) ?

There will be an internal trial match at Eastern Parade this Friday night, we might get to find out something about our new recruits.

Did anyone attend this trial last night ?
I’m out of the picture on one leg at present.

Went to the internal trial last night, there was a late change of venue from Eastern Parade to Football Park. Four twenty minute quarters were played. A few who have been in the injured group magically appeared and played a few minutes. It was hard to recognise the players, there were newbies, players in different numbers, different colours, youngsters from the U18's and the ground level view was disconcerting. Just a few overall comments. I was impressed by the attitude of all who played, it was a tough trial, skills were a little rusty and a few kicks missed their mark due to a strong south westerly. Redden started in ruck. Cooper Sharman started down back and then went forward. Mitch Hardie also played a bit in defence then a bit up forward. Tsitas was busy. It was hard to to pick out better performers because of different positions they played and the very frequent interchanges. Mills played a bit in ruck but didn't stand out. Kobe Mutch did a few good things, looked to be playing in the back half. Pierce Seymour played well at fullback. The most notable and impressive thing about the trial was the class of Troy and Dan Menzel, if they can keep fit and play the majority of matches they will be great to watch. I thought Max Litster, Jack Wheare (2 goals) and Nick Mitzithras from last years U18s showed some good form. Cooper Gaffney was good across half back and Mishai showed pace and skill at halfback although he did make a couple of errors. Riley Knight looked good on the ball and showed a bit of class. Those who didn't participate were Rowland (a bit of a hip problem but will start full training next Monday), Rory Lehman (bit of a hammy, two weeks away), Hall, Toumpas and Giuffreda. The overall impression I got is that we will again be a very good team and should have plenty of depth.

Any updates on Ryhan Mansel's tryout with Richmond. When is Richmond's decision due?

Re: WHAT DOES 2021 HOLD FOR THE EAGLES?
The Pre-season Supplemental Period(SSP) runs until March 9th. If Mansell returns to the Eagles then, he could still be taken in the Mid-Season Rookie Draft on Wednesday June 2ndReddeer wrote:Any updates on Ryhan Mansel's tryout with Richmond. When is Richmond's decision due?
Should any player selected in the SSP have signed a contract with a state league club, their new AFL home will be required to pay$10,000. Exclusions apply for players who had signed a consent form to train with the AFL club before committing to the state league club, or if the player was entering the 2020 drafts for the first time in their 18th year.

Re: WHAT DOES 2021 HOLD FOR THE EAGLES?
Now 10 players who played for the Eagles league team in 2020 have gone.
Sam Lowson, Nick Hayes, Rhyan Mansell, James Rowe, Jake Westbrook, Jordan Foote, Jacob Wehr, Lachlan Jones, Tristian Carcuro, Lachlan McNeil
Makes it tough for 2021 and the opposition will be rejoicing in anticipation
Hope the replacements are as good as we hope

Does anyone know why Tristian Carcuro left. He struggled at the end of the year but had promise. The incoming players are just names atm. We have the nucleus of the reserves premiership plus some good U18's. Hopefully Wimpy and Co keep us up to date on progress.

That makes it eight from our premiership team. Our running back line has been destroyed.
Twenty Eagles boys have been drafted over the last three years.

Our recruiting and development team needs a medal. That's a magnificent output.

Carcuro definitely left because of work.
Can't quite agree with you "goddy11" about the incoming players are just names, Riley Knight should be a good player in this competition, Clay Cameron played 28 AFL games although for a rather weak Gold Coast and if last Friday nights trial is anything to go by the Menzel brothers will be exciting, although we have to keep them on the field. Kobe Mutch and Dane McFarlane are reasonably well credentialed. Don't forget we will have Tsitas for a full season. I think getting some run out of the backline will be our biggest concern.

I didn't quite mean it like that. From a team structure point. We will know when the season starts. I trust Sheedy. What we need to ask is the quality of player we are replacing the equivalent to players on an AFL list. I'm thinking the experience we are gaining will suffice. Riley Knight should burn in the SANFL as should the Menzel's.
