I’m not too surprised/disappointed that Broadbent didn’t sign with the Eagles. He [and his family] were Port supporters, and after he joined Port, he had nothing to do with the Eagles. Unlike the likes of former players -Burton, Biglands, Rowdy, Kenny, Vince, Bock, Thompson and Salter etc, who would be often seen at the Club supporting the Eagles.
Broadbent [aged 29, and injury plagued] is at the tail end of his career and is chasing the dollar, so good luck to him. I would rather develop some of the emerging talent, such as Jamie Coff, Lachlan McNeil, Sam Michael, Harrison Morgan and Ryan Bruce, along with the young recruits we picked up recently. The young guys are our future.
I would like to see a ‘fit’ Jimmy Toumpas play against Broadbent next season.

I remember Broadbent had the chance to play finals with the Eagles early on in his AFL career and chose not to. With his injuries etc Eagles may have dodged a bullet. By all means get former Eagle juniors back who have their heart in it, but if just trying to prolong some sort of professional football lifestyle by extracting as many dollars and personal benefits as possible then I’m not sure it’s any loss if they choose another club. Especially a club like South.

With you 100% Woody and Earie. We need players that want to play for the club for the right reason. Broady has had issues this year and I wish him well to fully recover but I think we may be dodging a bullet. Hopefully we don't loose too many juniors in the draft and those left step up and we give them opportunities.

I think all 3 previous posts have been spot on.

It's been a while since Broady left us so probably not too many guys still at the club that he would have played with before he was drafted so maybe the connection with Wrighty and a better job made a bit of a difference, if anyone isn't 100% committed to the club then I think we are better off developing our kids.

It's disappointing that he chose another club but it's not uncommon (eg Partington going to the Bays).
I do wonder if the AFL teams or the players themselves do enough to prepare for life post AFL and as a result they end up putting a massive price tag on their head and go to whoever is willing to pay it (probably the same as your comment aerie)

Broadbent would have topped it off. Unfortunately, another season another new coach, I feel he would like to sus out what he has and then the season after target what he feels he needs, we just have to be patient.

Pickett gone in draft today. He's looks a lot stronger built than what he was earlier in the season. Pity we never saw the best of him.

I expected him to be drafted by Port didn’t think he’d go so early .
Part of me is happy he didn’t go to Port .
