Player rumours 2019/20

Talking to Mr Broadbent on the weekend, Matthew is not sure what he'll be doing in 2020.
He needs a job though so if an SANFL can find him employment they will go to the front of the queue.

Broadbent would be a good fit as Port Magpies marquee player wouldn't he? He would bleed black and white more so than blue, green and gold I imagine - even if he played at the Eagles before he got drafted. Having said that, hopefully he ends up at the Eagles. Would still have plenty to offer at SANFL level.

Broadbent would be a great player for the power SANFL team, but I feel he wants less intense involvement than the AFL club level. Absolutely shitty that Cam Sutcliffe was allowed to go to the power as a marquee player, is he still the SANFL magpies team marquee player now that he has been redrafted? The crows and power just do not need a marquee player each, finals appearances prove this.
As I mentioned before the Eagles have had talks with Broady and the job situation is a crucial point.

Good info as usual Wimpy. Has there been anything on the assistant coaches yet.

Broadbent will meet with the Eagles this week. He will also meet with Jarrad Wright, coach of South Adelaide, they are right in to him. Also the roosters are having a go at him.

Was shared on the real fans of SANFL page also. I think one of our own may have been trolling.

The person who dropped it on SA Footy is a port fan knows an eagles board member who I’ve only spoken to online . I can’t really say how I know this except when a rumour was flying I spoke to the board member and the same port fan posted the rumour was wrong.

I love this time of year with rumours. I wonder if we have approached any of the other delisted AFL players. I'd like an Andy Otten type here. Backline stability , can ruck and go forward. I suppose all will be revealed after the AFL draft.

Thanks I couldn’t get on with Mickyj I have no idea why and it took about a month to get on as MJP.

Talking to a couple of Eagle Players at basketball last night. Some have had individual meetings with the new coach and some, group meetings, all agree he seems a great bloke. No assistant coaches have yet been mentioned to the players. Pre-season to start Monday 18th November. At the moment the only departures they know of are Lewey and Seb., at this stage they don't seem to know a lot.

After winning the McCallum Tomkins Medal as the best player in the Under 18's competition in 2018, Kai was selected by Port Adelaide as a Category B rookie in the NAB AFL Draft. Kai went on to play 15 League matches for the Magpies, averaging a very healthy 22 disposals a game, spending the majority of his time playing on the wing.

On Kai’s signing CEO Luke Powell said “As always, we love having our Eagles juniors return to our Club. Kai had a really strong first season of League football and is probably a bit unlucky to find himself off Port’s list after just one season. Kai is determined to get back into the AFL system and we hope he is able to do so off the back of playing some quality football for our Club.”

On his return Kai said “I am very excited to come back to the Eagles. I cant wait to start Pre-Season and I am looking forward to playing with my mates again. My family and I are really excited by this opportunity and are looking forward to the season ahead."

Kai will join teammates for the first night of preseason which will commence on Monday 18th November from 5:30pm, venue to be confirmed.

Liam Buxton
Liam played 15 games for the Casey Demons in the VFL in 2019 after being recruited from Vermont in the Eastern Football League where he won a Premiership alongside ex Eagle Andrew Ainger in 2018. The 199cm Ruck/Key Forward will look to work in tandem with Jarrad Redden in the ruck whilst also providing another great marking option up forward alongside the Hayes brothers.

On Liam's signing CEO Luke Powell said, “Liam is a fierce competitor and very strong in the air. We feel that Liam can play a big role in seeing us bounce back quickly to finals football in 2020. His ability to play both in the ruck and up forward will give the team greater flexibility next year.”

On his signing Liam said “I am really looking forward to joining the Eagles in 2020 and testing myself in the SANFL competition. After coming across to Adelaide a few weeks ago and speaking to Jade, Luke and a few of the players, I got to experience the professionalism of the Club and felt the Eagles were the best fit for me. I can’t wait to get started.”

Liam will be over for a couple of weeks of the Pre-Season prior to Christmas before fully relocating in the new year.

While normally playing second fiddle to Melbourne AFL-lister Braydon Preuss, Wale-Buxton shouldered the ruck load in the absence of Preuss last week and recorded 15 disposals, 33 hit outs, four clearances and one goal. He’s a key factor in the Demons ranking first in the VFL for average hit outs in 2019.

Wimpy is Buxton one of those players from up north ?

I hope he's more than just a ruckman. In modern football running 2 rucks is a luxury. Sill good to see were not just sitting around like past years.

From the 5AA interview with Jade Sheedy, he said the Eagles had signed Pierce Seymour a 24 y.o. 190cm backman from the Crows supplementary list, also played for Payneham Norwood Union. Played against port magpies in qualifying final and had 22 disposals and 7 rebound 50's. Seems like a chance to make the 21. Possible replacement when Guff retires.
