Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Beeks not announced as part of the Leadership group for 2024.
I know Sheedy identified him as a future captain.
The three selections are sound choices but normally we have more than 3, perhaps this is Sam's call.
Or, maybe the Club expects Luke to be drafted????

It’s interesting The Barton could be Sam putting his mark on the club .

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Regarding Welsh and Weckert. If not injured etc, do they HAVE to play for SA Crows, like drafted AFL players, thus depriving top up players the chance to play at highest level? Also do they get the option of NOT playing against us at league level if they dont want to? (Used to be the case I think)

Just up on Facebook
GOLDY LOCKS IN - THOMMO SIGNS ON
You can’t beat experience, so the signing of Club legends Matthew Goldsworthy and Luke Thompson for season 2024 is a major bonus for the Eagles.
Goldy will enter his 17th year of League football, while Thommo will suit up for a 15th season… both on the verge of major Club & SANFL milestones.
We thank them for their unwavering commitment.

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Obviously Weckert hasn't gone to the Crows. He's about to enter the AFL Draft which hasn't occurred yet. Unless he is father-son or part of their NGA Zone (and neither applies to Weckert) then they no claim on him until he is drafted.
Alternatively if he wasn't drafted I guess he could quit the club and decide to play for the Crows SANFL team I guess.
Nonetheless, the Crows today published their list of signings for their SANFL team next season. Unsurprisingly Weckert isn't amongst them.

Goddsy11 wrote:Well-argued Aerie. It would be nice to know how much the AFL put back into the game compared to what the SANFL puts in. The SANFL sold footy park and their ownership in AFL club licenses to make AO possible. I don't believe the AFL put in much compared to what they contribute to Victoria.
I am also a Crows fan and happy the Crows will draft our player as I am when they draft any of our players. What upsets me is they (the AFL) are white anting our comp step by step with the full blessing of the SANFL commission. Let the AFL run all the state programs if they want to own our comp at their own expense.
WWT and WT going back further have given me pleasure and pain, but I may just give them a miss from now on.
Edit. Sorry I haven't taken my grumpy pills today.
100 percent agree and I have wondered this. I’d love to know.
About 10 years ago we owned Football Park and surrounds and we owned the two AFL licences.
Where are we at now? Obviously sold it all and now the AFL owns our two AFL clubs.
Is it all going to plan?

Unfortunately, it makes absolute sense for Welsh to spend the year developing at the Crows.
I'm sorry "Aerie" but I have to strongly disagree with you on this topic.
I have always been anti the Father/Son rule.
I strongly resent a privileged few players being able to get to the club they more than likely barrack for and don't have to move interstate.
It distorts the AFL draft, the draft was supposed to be an equalisation tool. In most cases it pushes other club's pick further down the selecting order.
Allowing F/S prospects to be able to train with their intended AFL club is a significant head start over other draftees, why should this happen.
As for F/S parents the Daicos parents are favoured by basically being able to watch their sons play in the comfort of their home state, no inconvenience here.
For example the King boys, not being F/S they are split between Victoria and Queensland, pity their parents trying to get to and paying to see their Queensland son play, not a burden for the Daicos parents though.
Tyler Welsh should be doing his year twelve in 2024 will this be significantly more compromised now that he will be at the Crows.
Also, no playing reward for WWTFC who has nurtured him through his junior years.
Another example of the AFL riding roughshod over the smaller leagues. Looking after grass roots football is disappearing and of great concern.
Rome Burgoyne is another of our players that could fall to the same fate.
I say let the kids play unburdened by all this crap.
You make good points wimpy and hard to argue. It’s more like The Hunger Games than a fair system with the AFL, that’s for sure.
I was more referring to if Welsh is guaranteed to be with the Crows via the system that is in place and the rules allow him to play for Crows Reserves, as they now do, then for his personal development and for the Crows to instil their game plan into him 12 months in advance, it makes sense.
It is another prick in the cushion for the heart and soul supporters though and I do think the SANFL and AFL have to open talks about what is best for all football prior to any decisions about AFL Reserves etc. As goddsy mentioned, the white-anting from the AFL is well and truly at the point where people are being turned away and who is coming in to replace those memberships?
The SANFL is incredibly resilient, but much of that was based on pretty much every football follower in SA having an SANFL team to support. Most school aged children have now grown up in a saturated AFL environment and an option to follow those clubs in the SANFL. Thankfully no premierships yet. 10 years ago, anyone over 40 had an SANFL club in their blood. Now it’s anyone over 50. The AFL need to stop white anting and the SANFL needs to be a competition worth following so those over 50 will bring their Grandchildren and continue that lineage, and the reason the SANFL can still attract in excess of 30k to their Grand Finals.

Disappointing if that's the case. Has the club even released a note that Welsh has left the club.
I can just imagine the wording. I'll bet "disappointed" is not used in the release if it happens.

I'm pretty sure the Eagles get $5,000 as compensation.
