Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Aerie, I thought Grocke never played in the Passador era. Grocke came later and, IMHO, was equally as effective. Passador kicked 99 goals in his best season as a clever leading FF, Grocke in contrast was the "Tony Modra" of SANFL with spectacular powerful marking from any position (strength and pace) but sometimes erratic kicking; disappointing that Grocke's footy career was cut short.
Thanks for sparking some good memories.

Adam Grocke played CHF and Mark Passador at FF in our 2006 GF win.

My apology . But Grocke really flourished as a stand-alone FF after Passador retired. (Can remember Grocke's 10goals 7points at Richmond Oval when he could have kicked18plus goals that day if you included 3 shots out on the full !!

Grocke sometimes eats at my local chinese takeaway. He is still a big, big boy. He often has some girls in tow. Dont think we have a father-son prospect there...even if we can wait 15 years.

Not a 2024 recruit unfortunately but Jordan Foote just completed the New York Marathon. We'd all love him to be running through the guts of Maughan Thiem Oval and Adelaide Oval when it counts.

Norwood signed Mitch O'Neill from Souf (as was expected) and a potential gun mid fielder from Tasmania, Ben Simpson. Not sure if he's related to Homer.

Yeah, I was thinking of the role Grocke played when Passador had his good season. For years we couldn’t get it past CHF against Central. We recruited Grocke who played his first few seasons as that agile workhorse up at CHF and Jarrad with his penetrating left foot from the wing.
I was seeing that lack of penetration through the CHF line last year. Really since the loss of Hayes.
You’re right re Grocke though, he became a very good focal point deeper in the forward line by the time we won again in 2011.

Correction:
Scott Morphett 99 goals in a season NOT Mark Passador

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Bernie Vince is an excellent pick up to have involved around the Club. He has that happy enthusiastic personality that is infectious and valuable especially in tough times. I wonder whether the Club will tap into his extensive football knowledge with some assistant line coaching role etc.
I noticed our new recruit Luke McKay for 2023 had been a player assistant coach of his Narandera team so should be a leader type, on and off the field.

Not a recruit but a departure.
The Power Reserves have signed Brock Thomson from the Eagles

I don't recall the name.
Can anyone tell me anything about him?

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
Brock was part of the last under 18's premiership team. His brother Jedd was or was under 18's this year. Brock was going to come back this season but must've changed his mind and i heard possibly next season but too late now

Excellent appointment and nice that we've got a younger No 1 ticket holder for a change and one that we can all relate to.
Bernie will add more value than the incumbent Minister for Police who has promised plenty but delivered little and has a surname no one can pronounce. Hopefully we see more of Bernie around the club in 2024.

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
I'm guessing every team with country zones that are far removed ( which excludes Sturt and South) has the disappointments of their young talent giving up and returning home (Brock Thompson, Studham back to Yorke Peninsula). If they haven't shifted accommodation to Adelaide, then the travelling time is horrendous ( as the Hayes brothers and North Adelaide's Coombe boys use to say). If they're working on their family farm there is no solution other than speedy promotion to the league team which then makes them think it's worthwhile.

Re: Recruits for Season 2024
For example Will Pearce and Brock drove to the city and back for under 18's and Jonte Hunter-Price drove up and back for under 18's till he moved to the city though out of them only have Will with us. Then you've got Kade Herbert move to the city for year 12 etc to live with Lachie Lucas which I'm not sure if Lachie is still with Eagles or not now
