Re: Eagles v North 25 April Maughan Thiem Kia oval
These came up on my Facebook page
Following the Eagles WWTFC victory yesterday, here's a few fun facts:
• Inclusive of West Torrens, it's just the 2nd time in club history that the Eagles have won the ANZAC Day clash as Reigning Premier... the other being vs Port Adelaide in 1994
• 3 points, win or loss, is the closest ANZAC Day margin for the Eagles
• WWTFC have won by 3 points overall 13 times... It's the 3rd time the Eagles have beaten North Adelaide by 3 points, and 5th time by 6 points or less
• 3 points is the closest margin, win or loss, for coach Jade Sheedy since taking the reigns at the Eagles at the start of 2020
• WWTFC has played North Adelaide more than any other club in its 30 year (and 4 round) history - 88 times (W58, L30)

Re: Eagles v North 25 April Maughan Thiem Kia oval
JOSEPH Sinor proved the hero as premier Woodville-West Torrens won a threepoint thriller against fierce rival North Adelaide in the Anzac Round grand final rematch at Woodville Oval yesterday.
The hard-nosed midfielder, who won the Eagles’ best and fairest in their premiership season last year, bobbed up with the most important goal of his 73-game career, kicking truly from an angled set shot from 40m to hand his side victory. Sinor’s matchwinner, with just three minutes remaining, was only the 11th goal of his career.
“I was quietly confident,’’ relieved Eagles coach Jade Sheedy said of Sinor’s kick.
“Joey’s a pretty good player by foot and we’ve tried to encourage him to hit the scoreboard a bit more.
“He’s one of the strong leaders at our footy club and it was a good moment for him.’’
Sinor’s crucial goal spared the Eagles blushes after they surrendered the lead in the final quarter, despite dominating inside-50s.
Sheedy’s side, chasing consecutive flags for the first time in club history, won the count 52-33 but trailed when Andrew Moore goaled early in the final term.
North, which fought back from 25 points behind early in the second quarter to snatch the lead, had the wind and momentum but could not deliver the knockout blow.
“It was a good day to be resilient,’’ Sheedy said.
“That’s one of the values of our footy club and I thought we were that. The boys’ effort was there all day but it was a pretty scrappy, physical game.
“I thought our first quarter was some of the best footy we’ve played all year, with a new group, but they (North) are a good side and to get a win and find ourselves at 3-1 is good.’’
In contrast, the Roosters, coming off a 92-point thrashing of Norwood at The Parade, are now 1-3 following close losses to the Eagles, South Adelaide and Central District. They overcame a poor start to lead at half-time following six goals in 19 minutes in the second quarter.
While they were smashed in inside-50s, they were good at ground level, winning clearances 33-25 and hitting targets in their attacking arc.
North’s defence, led by captain Alex Spina, Jarred Allmond and Tanner Smith, held up superbly under pressure. At the other end of the ground, Eagles half-back Sam Rowland won the Bob Quinn Medal as best-afield for his 23 disposals and shutdown job on dangerous Roosters forward Lewis Hender, who he kept goalless.
Midfielders Riley Knight, Jimmy Toumpas and Sinor were other strong performers for the Eagles.
Roosters coach Jacob Surjan was disappointed with the outcome but is refusing to push the panic button, despite only managing one win in the first month of the season.
“The game came down to moments in the last few minutes and they executed and we didn’t,’’ he said.
“We’re still playing some pretty good footy, so there’s no panic stations.’’

Would be good to have Lonergan against Salt and Peppa next week. Redden also against 2 big power ruckmen.

Re: Eagles v North 25 April Maughan Thiem Kia oval
Eagles 9.7.61 def North Adelaide 9.4.58
Goal Kickers: N. Moore 2, R. Knight, J. Von Bertouch, A. Poole, T. Stengle, J. Toumpas, J. Sinor, Z. Williams
Best Players: S. Rowland, M. Goldsworthy, J. Hayes, R. Knight, J. Sinor
On Sunday we took on North Adelaide in front of a crowd of 2326 on ANZAC Day. We were fortunate to have Craig Hansen, a former local war veteran, informing the playing group the importance of ANZAC Day and what it means to him prior to the game commencing.
The first quarter saw the boys play some of the best footy we’ve played all year. This saw us go into the quarter time 3 goals up with a slight breeze.
The second quarter saw North Adelaide continually take advantage of our turnovers, allowing them to kick 6 goals to 2 in the second quarter, which saw us be down by 5 points at half time.
The last half was a real arm wrestle with both sides playing contested brand of footy; with only 5 goals scored by both teams in the half. The last 10 minutes saw some great individual moments, and our ability to stand up as a footy Club when challenged was very satisfying.
Well done to Joey Sinor, showing great leadership and composure kicking the final goal, and a great game by Sam Rowland; a much deservant winner of the Bob Quinn Medal.
Better players on the day were Sam Rowland, Matthew Goldsworthy, Jack Hayes, Riley Knight, Jimmy Toumpas and Troy Menzel.
We look forward to taking on Port Adelaide this Sunday and seeing all the Eagle supporters travel down Port Road to Alberton.

Re: Eagles v North 25 April Maughan Thiem Kia oval
Eagles 12.3.75 def North Adelaide 10.7.67
Goal Kickers: C. Sharman 3, J. Kasianowicz 3, D. Pearce 2, L. Hoile 2, D. Jackson, R. Mutch
Best Players: R. Bruce, M. Litster, L. Beecken, E. Haylock, M. Hardie
The Reserves met North Adelaide in perfect conditions for ANZAC Day footy at Maughan Thiem Kia oval.
The group started the match slowly in the first 5 minutes but were able to start winning the clearances and control the ball around the middle of the ground; taking an ascendancy into quarter time. The second quarter was the best quarter as a group we have played this season. Cooper Sharman was dominant up forward whilst Max Litster and Ryan Bruce were strong down back, intercepting the ball and showing great strength at the contest. Luke Beecken was providing great rebound and run off half back with his best game for the season. Through the midfield Lachie Hoile and Ethan Haylock again showed that they are in great form and found plenty of the ball. The 3rd quarter was a real arm wrestle and at 3/4 time our focus was to run out the game and finish strongly. As it occasionally happens in Reserves football, we had a dip in our performance and the key indicators that we pride ourselves on with a disappointing last quarter. North Adelaide played strongly, and we were unable to hold off their ball movement. Pleasingly though in the last few crucial moments of the game we were able to slow the game down and take time off the clock to maintain our slender lead and win the game.
Other strong performers for the day were Jordan Kasianowicz who backed up his 6 goals the week before with another 3. Seb Kerrish also played a strong game as a defender. This puts us 3 and 1 for the year and in a strong position with 2 games to go before a week off.
Next weekend we travel to Sturt to play in an early game at 9.10am, we hope to see some supporters who like an early coffee at the game otherwise join in via the Digital Pass and watch the exciting footy currently being played by our Reserves group.
