Rowland is most probably in doubt, didn't train appears to have a calf problem.
Clay Cameron got back to SA on Sunday night, had to do a covid test, returned negative and took part in full training.
At this stage we will be missing 10 of our premiership 22.

I like how Mitchell Mead has come from PA Magpies on the new players yet was a Premiership player with us last year.
I cant see an injury list on our website. No Goldy?

Goldy got cleaned up Vs Crows trial match, could be out for a couple.
Goldy, Redden and Stengle will have to be fitted back in sometime. Don't think Rowland will play, didn't train tonight, possibly a calf problem.

Was a hot day
Thank goodness we brought the Menzel brothers over
Took us awhile to play as a team
When Hayes went into the Ruck in the last we started getting the ball out of centre .

Re: RD1 Eagles v Sturt Maughan Thiem Kia oval 2 April
A good solid win with Sturt pressing us up until 3/4 time.
Tsitas is a huge signing for us for this year and I thought Luke Thompson was best for us in defence.
Like the look of Clay Cameron and the way he moves around that forward half. Individually the forward line was packed, but there is no way that balance is right. I think Von Bertouch may be better used down back - Lehman not real impressive on debut. Stengle to add some more zip.
I liked what Pudney and Jungfer offered too. Both look like they could be important improvements to the league side this year and have stepped up a level.

Well said Aerie good shot Goddy
Any clue on quarter by quarter umpires decisions . Some strange ones at times .
It took the Eagles until the fourth to get total control
West off was he rested ?

Bemused that Advertiser journo don't recognise Blackman contributions - Thompson not listed in our best 9 when he was probably in our top 4 ( seems all about stats.). Excellent game of Ben Jungfer also. Poor entries into the forward line also with Tsitas (good game otherwise) and others "bombing " it in too often. West battled hard and held his own against low key opposition.
I didn't see the incident but hope Kobe Mutch hasn't broken his wrist. Mitch Hardie (28 disposals) in Seconds noted,

Mickey, watching the game from the Cricket club we commented on how inconspicuous the Umps were.

Thommo was certainly in our best. McFarlane got better as the game went on. Going to be massive asset. Mead made errors early but came into the game strongly. I worry about West in the ruck, maybe the heat. I would have hated to be playing in those conditions. Jack Hayes spent a lot of time everywhere. Jesse Lonergan looks heavy but he picks up a load of kicks

Some strange frees to sturt that weren’t paid both ways
However sturt knew where the umpires were standing we could see a lot of throws by sturt players that the umpires couldn’t see . That’s us on the outer
You wouldn’t have heard the sturt fan on the grandstand side yelling a few times when the eagles kicked and marked the ball from the back line touched . He had a very loud voice no one fell for it though .

Did you notice in the fourth Hayes in the ruck the mids were winning the ball out of the middle

Good summary "Aerie"
I thought we didn't combine that well as a team, but with so many new faces that was to be expected.
Before the match I thought we were too tall especially in defence. On a hot day like Friday another runner would have been priceless.
The coach's saying "there is no excuse for being unfit" showed out in the quarter.
Club's best players at presentation:
1) J. Hayes
2) R. Knight
3) L. Thompson
4) P. Giuffreda
5) B. Jungfer
6) A. Poole
Really like the way Ben Jungfer is developing, fearing he might get drafted.
Best player in the reserves: Mitch Hardie, then N. Moore, Z. Williams, C. Sharman, S. Michael, D. Jackson and T. Schmusch.

Wimpy. Best 6 players would have been hard job. Tsitsas just keeps finding the ball and Pudney is just a smooth unit. The signs are good with a huge reserves win. Pity the U18/16 went down.

The U18s in the trial match the week before, Eagles lost four of their starting 18 to injuries, three concussions and a knee.
They were a bit undermanned. Sturt always turns out a very good U18 team.

Wimpy. I read a type of rumour that Chris Hall may play for the SANFL Crows. I haven't heard much except that he reigned to play for us this year. Any feedback.

I don't think it's a rumour, I heard it on 5AA. Tom Gray, Lou Sharrad and now Hally gone, I think we are starting to see the ruthless side of the coach. We must have a replacement plan if we want to keep being premiership contenders, sad to see Hally go but no future for him, must open up places for youngsters.

If they go to the Crows I'm ok with that. Still sad to see. At least the coach sees his best side and doesn't see favourites in his plans.
