The Eagles have been boosted by the return of an experienced pair for their game against Sturt at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval.

Captain Luke Thompson and ruckman Jarrad Redden have both been included in the starting 22 after recovering from injury.

Possible AAMI Rookie Zane Williams (19, 178cm and 67kg) from Woodville South, has also been included on the extended interchange bench.

Any word on Zane Williams? I suspect Redden still out with West named.

Word on him?? He has been playing good reserves footy lately, last years under 18's premiership player, looks like ill have a chance to meet Sam before the game providing that he comes out for a kick etc before warm ups though they never did warm ups last week

I'd say that they'll be tricking us maybe with the West and Redden I'd say McNeilly maybe Sharrad trucking us I'm sure that Sharrad had ice on him at the end of the game or whenever it was

Thompson and him sat the last quarter out resting so maybe he did it then but I've got to tell Jesse off tomorrow so ill find out then not in a bad way telling him off but other way

Lee, Redden and Goldsworthy not in final 22. Assume Lee is in reserves and Redden and Goldy are out injured, therefore it looks like Zane Williams makes his debut.

If so good on Zane he deserves it such a lovely cheeky lad like the rest of the boys are be interesting to see what Sam is like when i meet him presumingly tomorrow morning if he's out having a kick too

Have i not seen anything advertising the gate times or is it just me, found that last week that the gates weren't open till 10:30-11 the assistant coaches in reserves told me to go in via the bar way last week when i arrived after 10 thinking the gates were going to be open early

I have to get to footy early if i want to catch up with a few of the reserves boys before the game and catch up with a few of the league boys before i head off

Williams in league I'm guessing today and Williams in under 18's aren't even related to each other incase anyone was wondering ive asked last year especially with the same surname you never know these days

With that strong wind blowing down the ground, Eagles did well to win all four quarters. A much better game from West today, I thought. Any update on Jack Hayes' injury, hope it's not too bad?

Woodville-West Torrens went about its business to maintain its spot at the top of the ladder with a 37-point win against an injury-hit Sturt at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval.

As has been the case all season, the Eagles had an incredibly even spread of contributors as it led at every change to keep the Double Blues at bay.

Restricting the visitors to just two goals in the opening three terms, Jade Sheedy’s outfit displayed its efficiency considering it only drew level with Sturt’s total of 41 inside 50 entries.

Jack and Nick Hayes got things moving for the Eagles with goals in the first quarter, together with James Rowe – who booted the first of his three in the seventh minute.

By the time Rowe – currently leading the race for the Ken Farmer Medal – booted his second major, the Eagles had opened up a commanding 30-point advantage nearly 10 minutes into the third quarter.

In contrast, the Double Blues went from four minutes into the first term when Henry Carey opened their account until 16 minutes into the third to construct their second goal of the game.

By the final change, Sturt had just one fit player on the bench after suffering match-ending injuries to ruckman Darcy Bennett (ankle – 2nd term), Carey (heavy knock – third term) and forward Jake Sutcliffe (knee – third term).

Sutcliffe – who left the ground on crutches – was an important absentee given he had booted six majors the week before against Central.

Sturt captain James Battersby again fought valiantly to register 28 disposals and 10 clearances while defender Tom Harms had 23 disposals and took 12 marks.

Premiership wingman Steven Slimming had 24 disposals while late-season recruit Jack Henderson tallied 26 disposals, 10 tackles and five clearances to show he will be a valuable asset at Unley.

But it wasn’t enough to overcome the Eagles, who had five players reach at least 20 disposals, with vice-captain Joseph Sinor also booting two important goals.

VFL signing James Tsitas is looking more comfortable each week after tallying 23 disposals and a goal while Jimmy Toumpas and Chris Hall had 22 possessions each.

Ruck replacement Jordan West was solid with 14 disposals, three marks and three clearances as the Eagles had another AAMI Rookie in Zane Williams, who finished with nine disposals and two tackles.
