Re: rumor thread for 2014
When will the club advise why we are paying around 1/3 of our cap for 2 players that have had more clubs than Greg Norman? 40k plus 400 a game for Ainger and 35k plus 400 a game for Wunke. Comparatively Wunke is much better value and much less scared, but I'm still very concerned t the message this recruiting sends the the lesser number of locals that we are bringing through compared to the more successful Fuller days.

Re: rumor thread for 2014
Wundke is a great gain, yes we need midfielders but we have lost Salts, Staple, Zac is intending to leave (the club is working vigorously to keep him) and remember Grocke is near 30 and has missed a whole season of footy with an awkward injury. If good players want to leave ordinary clubs like South we should explore recruiting them. Salary figures are usually inflated on these forums. I am confident the club will recruit as best they can for our existing weaknesses...the next few weeks will be interesting.

This thread is full of hearsay. I have it on go good authority, but why don't you ask your contacts at the club if have said is incorrect? Gee we are a precious mob! No wonder so many mistakes go unquestioned.

Re: rumor thread for 2014
Anyway, the players themselves have been telling people which is a concern in itself!
For what it's worth I think Wunke is a good player albeit a bit lazy, but makes up for it in talent. We have already seen what sort of investment Ainger has been in remotely important games

I doubt we would have signed Boyd. The transfer fee would be hefty. We have already paid for Wundkemand his transfer which wouldn't be cheap.
I have heard Boyd is going to Glenelg

Pretty impressive write up on Giles of the Eagles and State U18s in the paper during the week - didn't realise we had someone of that ilk playing there because he didn't seem to have any/many games in the Seconds this year. When they say he's 195cm, quick, provides run from Full back, beat all/most of his interstate opponents, can also play ruck or forward... sounds very impressive. But young U18 Fullbacks haven't a good record of being drafted so we can hope.......maybe he'll still be around.

Re: rumor thread for 2014
Does anyone know whether Clubs pay "spotters" who reside in Country areas to attend different games in their football associations by getting commission if any of their recommendations come to Adelaide and play league football for their Club. I understand Centrals had someone in the Riverina, Stewart Dew in Sydney was useful. You would think that McKenzie with the Hawks B team in the VFL might be giving the Eagles some info but have we spotters in NT, QFL, Canberra etc. Perhaps the additional cost of relocation of job, family etc make it expensive when a player who has already proved himself in the SANFL is an option albeit with the downside of a hefty transfer fee.
Relocation costs, no proof of ability, cheaper playing fee vs Hefty transfer fee from another SANFL, knowing their ability, expensive playing fee.
Initially, I wasn't happy with the Wundke signing (ifits happened) but have warmed to it and can understand their thinking. But , now for those 2 midfielders and a ruckman. Get those and we've done alright.

Premiers we did have the forward ruckman from the NEAFL over earlier in the year!!Premiers wrote:Does anyone know whether Clubs pay "spotters" who reside in Country areas to attend different games in their football associations by getting commission if any of their recommendations come to Adelaide and play league football for their Club. I think anytime a former Ken farmer medallist wants to come you get him !!
Now if we know Boyd is an Eagle or not !!

Speaking of tall backs - we should be ok?Premiers wrote:Pretty impressive write up on Giles of the Eagles and State U18s in the paper during the week - didn't realise we had someone of that ilk playing there because he didn't seem to have any/many games in the Seconds this year. Culley and Von Bertouch should be ready to hold down full time key back posts.
Tim Mackenzie was a project CHB recruit last year - will he be ready to step up?
Summerton goes ok and Patty Giuffreda can always take a 3rd tall when needed.

Apparently both Wundke and Boyd have been seen a fair bit down at the club so hopefully there will be an announcement soon.

If we have signed Wundke and Boyd not sure we will sign anyone else.
Still think we need a ruckman not sure we would have enough room in our cap

Re: rumor thread for 2014
Wunke and Boyd - 6 SANFL clubs between the 2 of them - one flicked from 2 clubs and one to be strongly rumored to have a suspect body, yet we guarantee his money regardless of games. Big risk for a club that has made some major recruiting blunders after last few years

Re: rumor thread for 2014
Yes, he was someone I noticed during the Res GF; very Steven Hall like. I would like to see how he comes along next year.Aerie wrote:Tim Mackenzie was a project CHB recruit last year - will he be ready to step up?
Culley did not play after Round 9, so he is someone who is like a new recruit so to speak. A lot of the fringe and younger players will have chances to step up; as will basically all the other clubs.
Seeing as the standard of the competition will erode even further next year, if it appears we can only break even on last years list or slightly worse, it may not matter. The right players to take the club to genuine premiership contender is more so reliant on who we get rather than how many. A fit and firing Boyd will be one of those if indeed we get him.

Re: rumor thread for 2014
I've wondered how we have managed the cap with all the ins and outs of the AFL players during the season. They all counted towards the salary cap. So, one of the rare positives of this situation the competition finds itself in next year is that we will exactly how much will be there to spend at the start of the year instead of budgeting for the AFL players.Cica wrote:If we have signed Wundke and Boyd not sure we will sign anyone else.

Re: rumor thread for 2014
How does this team look at present, assuming Zac Fitzgerald has left, otherwise I wouldhave him at CHB or as a tall in the Back Pocket
For Hall Wundke Ainger
HF Goldsworthy Grocke Amos Frank
cc Sumner Powell Jarrad
HB Batley Von Bertouch Raymond
FB Guiffreda Culley X
1st R X , Kane, Boyd
2nd R Bornholm, Lewis, Appleton
res Bornholm Lewis Appleton
Emerg Martyn, Allmond
Possibly McKenzie, Summerton or Giles (if not drafted) could fill the vacant tall BP position.
1st ruck is still the glaring hole.

Re: rumor thread for 2014
unless we sign another ruck it would be in first ruck borholm is heijus second or you play an extra tall forward who pinch hits in the ruck or a young ruck like t. fitzgerald, muller, hupparts
I would have almond in before frank as I have no idea the condition he is in and he may take a few weeks to gel.
Your right about the other defenders in my opion but if playing a small team I would have muirhead in that place

Re: rumor thread for 2014
yes, Allmond is good player and I wouldn't argue about that. Hoping that Amos Frank can give that little bit of elusiveness/unpredictability (hate the cliche "X Factor") that our forward line needs. But I'm also a fan of Allmond for the workmanlike team game that he plays even though he's not noted for kicking many goals when he plays forward. Might even have Allmond in Appleton's place but like to give young Appleton, as a genuine young developing onballer, first crack at cementing a spot.
Anyway, both nonsense and interesting speculating this time of the year.
Centrals are also chasing a ruckman so the Clubs will be playing their cards close to their chests until signed. Reckon Bornholm would make a handy CHB but that's not going to happen with our lack of ruckman. Muller and Huppatz are a long way from league standard (I hope) at present, perhaps 2015-2016

Re: rumor thread for 2014
Great news signing Boyd. Needed that top quality midfielder with Rowntree missing. Along with Wundke, there is two ready made proven players at SANFL level to add to the squad.
Made a call early last year that I would've liked to see how Ainger would go as a 2nd ruck. Would still like to see the Eagles try this. He looks tall and strong enough and he is not so crucial to have in the forward line if we have Wundke and Grocke.
Grocke is the great unknown. He seemed injured to me in 2012 and wasn't great, and then 2013 was obviously out injured after round 2. If he can get back to anything like he was a few years ago he'll be our best recruit. Still not against the Eagles trying him as our key CHB if Godden thinks he can play there.
Sumner I would like to see tried more through the midfield. We seem to have a lot of players who are just backmen or just forwards who need to be more flexible. We need 10 midfielders to run through the middle each game. Powell, Boyd, Appleton, Lewis, Allmond, Goldsworthy, Poole, Sumner, Raymond, Hall all need to be good enough at the centre clearances as well as up forward or down back so we don't run out of puff like we have in every final since and including the 2011 GF. Obviously fitness is also an issue, so unless the players are fitter than this year, they won't be genuine contenders.
