rumor thread for 2014
From Premier
Josh Growdon has been delisted from Richmond ? whether he'll return to the Eagles. Suffered a broken leg in 2011 which also kept him out for all but the last 4 games of the 2012 season and this season was only fair.
Rumour that Centrals have sacked James Boyd - would he be worth the big $$$$ he'll cost.
From a South official, Joel Cross hasn't committed to next year yet.
Now that Sam Gray has been stitched up by the Magpies, ? whether Zane Kirkwood would be chased?
Have we made any further progress towards signing the Queensland ruckman ?
Amos Frank delisted from Hawthorn. ? whether he'll return to the Eagles. From all accounts, did show some improvement at Hawthorn but hampered by injuries. Has pace and evasive skills through the midfield.

Re: rumor thread for 2014
Joel Cross works for the Finance Director at South so I doubt whether we could get him.
Who is the Queensland Ruckman we are chasing?
We are losing Luke Thompson so It think we need to find a key defender. Therefore Kory Beard would be on the radar you would think. Mind you all SANFL Clubs would be chasing him

Re Amos Frank
I can confirm he was in Adelaide earlier this year, I spoke to him at training on a Wednesday night.
Have heard nothing since in relation to having him back at the Eags next year, would be handy.

Who are the youngsters, the Eagles expect to be lost in the AFL Draft besides Luke Dunstan? Karpany and Tasman Fitzgerald are the only two that come to mind.

Re: rumor thread for 2014
Interesting question Premiers, about 3/4 of the Under 18's from yesterday are all eligible for Under 18's again next year, which may mean they are too young to be drafted, which makes yesterdays result even better.

Re: rumor thread for 2014
Good to know that because despite the team's great performance, individually, none of the players (apart from Karpany and Fitzgerald if not drafted ) are likely to play Seniors in 2014. But, another year of development and...........
Disappointing to see that of the 4 knock-ruck positions in our Seconds and U18s, we haven't got a 197cm + ruckman developng.
Heinjus is going to be the unlucky player who is never going to be big enough for a League ruckman but has to play the emergency Ruckman replacement role when, it would be in his interest to be put in a key forward or key back position and learn to play the role.

Re: rumor thread for 2014
Recruits andplayers will come and go aplenty before March 2013 but if I had to gather names for the first round 2013
For Goldsworthy Grocke Salter
HF Hall Ainger Amos Frank
C Martyn Powell Jarrad
HB Batley Kirk Raymond
FB Guifreda Culley Von Bertoch
First Ruck Mr X1 (Queensland), Kane, Lewis
Interchange Bornholm, Allmond, Sumner
Rowntree to be added in August 2014 when recov from ACL
A handy team providing we secure Mr X1. Hopefully we can get a gun midfielder, Mr X2, and another midfielder, Mr X3 not quite as good (because salary cap and $$$ will run out)

Re: rumor thread for 2014
Summed it up perfectly Premiers. Reckon those two midfielders are even more important than securing a ruckman.
Could Ainger be developed as a pinch hitter in ruck? Could Sumner get fit enough to play a role on-ball?

Premiers
That's a good looking side but we lacked pace in the midfield and as you say we need to recruit two very good midfielders. Would jamesvBoyd be one given that the big rumour he is leaving Centrals.
Definitely need a ruckman

Re: rumor thread for 2014
That's a good side, still need some speed from some out side players , I think Borholm has shown enough that when fully fit he is our number one ruckman his hand speed and accurate kicking are very good but if Godden allows him to go forward he is very good at kicking some long goals look forward to seeing his development during next season can't wait bring on 2014.

Re: rumor thread for 2014
Can't see Bornholm ever being our No 1 ruckman. Reckon he's no bigger than Parry and with nowhere near the consistent leap of Parry. Opposition ruckman reach over him. However, he's useful as a back-up, especially as he can play forward.
Disagree with former comment that we don't need a ruckman as much as a midfielder. Going by earlier rumours , the Eagles were entertaining a big 198cm+ "sun tanned" ruckman at the Centrals and Sturt games at Woodville late in the season so let's hope. Eagles were pretty average till Paul Lindsay came along in the early 2000s, then Parry followed equally as well so I would hate us to go back to the Dark Ages when we were insipid at the Centre Bounces.
There was an article about Sam Gray where he has pledged to play for Port Magpies now that over 23 year olds are allowed to play for Magpies as the fill-ins so be surprised if he's available. Yes, Boyd would be good but need to do homework on why Centrals have sacked him (is there baggage!!) Sam Gray would be a better and safer get, especially being 4 years younger

Re: rumor thread for 2014
lets look at next season objectively, first and foremost we have had a very good season in all levels which suggests that next season will be even better than this one.
Now, to the list, I agree that we need to recruit well particularly in the mid field, not so much to replace but to rotate more often with quality fast midfielders, secondly the back 6 also needs to be fast and accurate when moving out of defence so skilled players needed, two maybe three. Ainger needs to learn to take the ball out in front not on the chest and perhaps someone needs to film his kicking action and show him what he is not doing so that he can correct that then he will be a 100 goal a year forward. Now to those who think that Borholm is not a number one ruckman because he is to small {he stands at 197cm} which is 3cm taller than Parry and only 1cm smaller than Mr X at 198cm . He does have a great leap, but he also has a football brain as I like to call it, sometimes a ruckman needs to change it up and if you watch Borholm you can see that he keeps on trying different things, he is not Craig Parry those days are now gone, high jumping is not always the right strategy Plus I have heard that he played the last 8 weeks with a bad ankle injury which prevented him from jumping all the time the fact that he finished 14th in the best and fairest goes a long way to suggest that he can play and once fully fit will be awesome, but we do need another ruckman to support him and Muller perhaps, if he gets through a good pre season will be the one. But what ever happens through the off season the only way to be successful is if we all stand together as one united behind which ever player takes the field and encourage them all because they are all trying their best.
Go Eagles.

Re: rumor thread for 2014
'Landed' you are so correct. We need to be united behind every player who wears the Eagles jumper. Negativity will get us no where.
You are also correct regarding Mark Borholm. I spoke with Mark for some time at the B & F & yes, he has had an ankle problem for a number of weeks, as a matter of fact he was having a scan done on Monday. His enthusiasm to be our no. 1 ruckman was unmistakable.

"We had a good season"? Lost both finals! Attitude of what is success has changed a bit from Fullers day. If re even talk about recruiting Boyd, we are doomed for even less success.

Re: rumor thread for 2014
A No 1 ruckman needs to be recruited and the Club appears to recognise this. (Bornholm a handy backup + can go forward but not in he class of a No 1 ruckman). Muller is only a kid learning to hold his own in the U18s; if he makes good progress, maybe 3 years away from playing League. Recruit one top ruckman ($$$$$), one classy quick midfielder ($$$$$) and if money tight, a second developing almost as good midfielder ($$$). The other positions, we can cover but we can't presently cover ruck & onballers.

Re: rumor thread for 2014
We played a lot better this year then last year, a lot of the players who played finals this year haven't done so at league level. Plus we won 2 flags in the u18s and the reserves this year, so did a lot better then most clubs this year.Dobber wrote:"We had a good season"? Lost both finals!
