For Sunday's game at Alberton the EAGLES lose one, the magpies gain one, how unfair is this.

With the PA AFL side and SANLF side playing at the same time we may be spared PA using emergency players in both matches.
Do we think Narkle wiill be available?

I think Pearce at FF is his spot and Menzel can float around the forward line

Agree Goddy. Jack would have been the extra bit of hardness we want against Port.
Looks a good lineup considering our injuries, suspension, stolen player and Goldie returning through the Reserves.

Jonas will go to Cameron, Ballenden or maybe Menzel. But even though the sanfl is not the same level, he is not in form and won’t be playing like a top afl player. Same applies to Fantasia who is returning from injury.Mickyj wrote:And Jonas is playing against us
Narkle may or may not fire. Need Bucky and Joe to be at their best.

Re: Port v Eagles Alberton Oval June 4
Just a quick distraction from our side. Does anyone rember this guy. He has won 2 mail medals so must be reasonable.
SHORT AND SWEET
ANDREW CAPEL
MURPHY Short admits there were times during summer when he couldn’t
wait to “lie on the couch on a Friday afternoon’’.
“By the time Fridays came around I was pretty tired,’’ he said.
That’s because the ‘Curramulka Kid’ had spent his Mondays and Wednesdays at pre-season football training with Port Adelaide’s SANFL squad and
Tuesdays and Thursdays at cricket training with SACA club West Torrens.
Then there were full Saturdays - and the occasional Sunday - playing cricket matches.
All of Short’s sport had to be fitted around his full-time job as a carpenter.
“It was pretty full-on but I enjoy both sports equally, so I’ve pushed
through,’’ he said. Short is a throwback to yesteryear. The 23-year-old is one of the rare breed of modern sportsmen to continue to combine both football and cricket at a high level.
A state under-age cricketer who was chosen to represent South Australia at
the 2016-17 under-17 national championships in Brisbane before being a late withdrawal with a broken thumb, Short played in West Torrens’ 2021-22 two-day and one-day first-grade premiership teams as an allrounder.
He won back-to-back Mail Medals in the Yorke Peninsula in 2021 and 2022
before at the end of last year being enticed to try his hand in the SANFL as a top-up player with Port following phone calls from football manager Shane Grimm and development coach Jace Bode, a triple Norwood premiership player.
Short, who had long starred for the CMS Crows in the YPFL, made his league debut for the Magpies against West Adelaide in the Russell Ebert Tribute Match in Loxton in round four.
He made an immediate impression, having 18 disposals and taking six marks in Port's first win of the season and has been in the side ever since.
The 183cm, 85kg Short is averaging 15 disposals, four marks, five tackles and two clearances, having started on a wing and then moved into the midfield rotation.
“I’m not renowned for my speed or athleticism so I have to put my head over
the ball, win contested footy and try to lay as many tackles as possible,’’ he
said.
Where once star sportsmen were able to combine their football and cricket
duties - North Adelaide triple Magarey Medallist Barrie Robran and Sturt
Magarey Medallist John Halbert both played first-class cricket for South
Australia - that is a dying breed.
Glenelg premiership forward Luke Reynolds is the only other current player
combining league football and some first-grade cricket (for Port).
West Adelaide utility Isaac Johnson - the Bloods’ 2020 club champion and
brother of Redbacks and Australia A speed demon Spencer Johnson - was
playing first-grade for the Eagles before giving cricket away to focus on
football.
Short played under-16 SANFL football for Woodville-West Torrens before
struggling with the time commitment, returning to CMS Crows and playing a season with Rostrevor Old Collegians.
When the call from the Magpies came, he decided he didn’t want to die
wondering.
“I spoke to dad (Charlie), who’s been a Port supporter for over 50 years, and he was pretty keen on the idea,’’ said Short, whose Magpie teammates have included long-time AFL players Scott Lycett and Tom Clurey and first-round draft picks Lachie Jones and Josh Sinn.
“I thought, why not give it a go because I don’t want to look back in 20 years
time and regret not trying to play at the highest level I could.’’
A right-foot kick, Short does the opposite in cricket, batting left-handed and
bowling left-arm medium pacers.
Short plans to continue to play both sports for the foreseeable future.
“I love footy and cricket so as long as I can cope with the training loads, I’ll
keep playing both,’’ he said

But good wins to the U18 and U16. The U16 smashed their opponents.
Tyler West looked injured before 1/2 time in the U18. Any update.

Yikes, that was a get out of jail game. In terribly windy conditions, it looked mini-league standard skills wise until it opened up in the last quarter. A very important 2 points! Therein lies the value of D.Menzel!

All credit to the defense. They were under a lot of pressure all match. A very Godden style defense and we scored on the counter. Teams can never take their eye off Menzel. Good to beat the scum at Alberton.

I havent been there for years. Along with Glenelg oval its not a place I like to go for the reasons above.
Pity the camerawork on the digital was crap. They need to zoom in . I couldn't pick some of the action.
Lukac stats show he had 4 disposals. He seemed to be in the play a bit. Williams was quiet.
