Re: South v Eagles Friday 7th April
South's bookends, CHB Skinner 197cm and CHF Sproule 197cm will present Eagles with another task on trying to stop the !X#!!s from marking everything that comes their way. I don't believe we have anyone to match them if they get an easy run at the ball. We'll be relying on our midfield causing only "rough ball" going their way into their forward line and penetrating, accurate kicking from our wingmen when going into our forward line.
On that thought, I wouldn't mind Buck being tried on the wing - he always delivers the short kick accurately, even under pressure, but at Norwood last Friday, showed he can also kick 50 metres; makes good decisions, has good closing speed, tackles very well and his lack of height wouldn't catch him out on the wing as much as in defence. Worth a try.

I was hoping Fridays squad would be release today. Any thought on ins and outs?

Do we change a winning line up from last week or go with the winning side . Guess we will find out later today .

Great team effort last Friday and everyone contributed so there will be unlucky players in the coming weeks.
That said, if they are available this week then Menzel, and Knight come back into the team for sure IMO. Comma and Mawson the players to drop out.
If Collier-Dawkins is available this week then I'd still put him in the reserves for one game because I don't think he played enough (or any?) Trials to be considered fit. If they do want to put him straight into the League side then he comes in and Buck goes out.
Lehmann will replace Bruce when he is fit. But he has a horrible track record of getting injured every second game (much like Cameron and Lonergan) so I'd like Lehmann to string together multiple games in the reserves before he is considered.
I don't think we can play both of Lukac and Brinker-Ritchie in the same side together unless one of them can show that they can bring something in another position besides ruck. Based on last week's excellent performance I go with Lukac in the League and B-R to play reserves upon his return for the time being.
As the season goes on it will probably be players like Pudney, Firns and Beattie who will come under pressure if there any players in the Reserves knocking the door down for promotion so they will be incentivised to bust their guts each week.
Nice to have this 'problem' with depth !!

Re: South v Eagles Friday 7th April
Interesting that Norwood were thumped by Sturt last night. Perhaps our win last Fri, thrashing Norwood, wasn't against a form opponent.
Today's performance will tell us more. Hopefully the windy conditions won't suit South's talls.

IMHO it’s better to face an inform side . Win lose or draw then you know how much you need to improve .
Yeah Norwood have had 7 top line players out

Only halfway through 2Q in Seconds - Riley CDawkins 7 kicks 7 handballs. Seems like he's going OK .

Sobering performance in the first half against South - some of us got carried away by last week against a mediocre opponent. More realistically, if we can win 2 out of the first 4 games after which most of our good players have returned with 1-2 games under their belt, then we may still be in the mix.
I didn't see the Seconds, only looked at the App stats - noticed that Collier-Dawkins didn't add much to his stats after half time (20 in total). Did he run out of puff, was he rested or re-injured? Lehmann's stats suggest he didn't do much.
3rd Q South's height advantage is intimidating.

Re: South v Eagles Friday 7th April
We're still a silly chance! Only 7pts down at 3Q. Despite losing Thompson and Macfalane.
South clearly superior but they've played defensively that Q and don't seem to acknowledge that we can still win it!

Well that was a close loss
Hopefully Thompson is ok and Macfarlane has not done his ACL
Not sure what to say really

Last week we kicked well for goal - this week we kicked poorly for goal. Even in the last Q, Rowe missed an easy goal for him, Pearce missed easy goal while South slotted 2 rippers from boundary. Their recruitment of big guys Freitag (last year), Skinner (returning this year) and Zac Sproule (might be taken in midseason draft) is impressive.

We stopped winning the ball out of centre which didn’t help our forwards as well .

Freitag is a good example of persistence, a KI boy who made the move over, played in their Under 18’s program has recently turned 22 and has played 20 odd league games in the last few seasons, he has taken a bit of time to develop his game as is often the case with big guys. Maybe with some patience and persistence we may see the same from Jordan Lukac.

Re: South v Eagles Friday 7th April
C’mon guys you’ve just got to kick those easy goals!!!
We should have been 5 goals up in the first quarter and playing really well. Pearce biggest offender across the day with 2 easy misses and one relatively easy shot from 20m out and didn’t even make the distance. Hardie and Weckert another two simple shots that were wasted
You could see the Eagles’ gameplay change as South got back into the game which led to us going back into our shells with slow, static ball movement that fed directly into South’s strengths – particularly aerial dominance across the backline. Without a key forward our gameplan only works when quick forward movement negates the need for a big contested grab and brings our small and mid-sized players opportunities.
Also a noticeable change when Thompson went off. That said, I thought Bruce played reasonably well today. When Macfarlane went down with a likely season ending knee injury it was always going to be a struggle.
My best in no particular order – Hardie, Bruce Rowe, Goldy, Sinor
Hopefully we can get Menzel back for next match and possibly Collier-Dawkins if he escaped injury

Re: South v Eagles Friday 7th April
I think you will find that Collier-Dawkins had his time on ground managed, was supposed to play about 50%. C-D and Lehmann in the reserves well short of league fitness level.
I thought Ryan Bruce was tremendous battling huge odds, his best game for the Eagles.
Our lack of height is really starting to take it's toll, S.A. fourteen contested marks to Eagles four.
Intensity was still up but after the first quarter we just couldn't get any method or flow in to our game.
Our injured list was: Knights, D. Menzel, Toumpas, Brinker-Ritchie, Studham, Cameron, Lonergan and T. Menzel. Also C-D and Lehmann were in the reserves regaining fitness.
Adding to our injured list McFarlane (Knee) and Thompson (# cheek bone) from Friday's game.
Last year Will Pearce's goal kicking was sensational, he now seems to have lost all confidence in his kicking for goal.

Re: South v Eagles Friday 7th April
Credit to Jordan Lukac for the massive improvement in his attack on the ball this year - he looks to really want to get involved with field play and has poise and balance in traffic for a tall guy. Unfortunately, his aerial skills are non-existent at present with his first instinct to spoil even when in front position against smaller opponent's. Accept that it's tough for anyone to come up against the best 2 SANFL ruckman in Boyd and Brooksby. Unfortunately, there's still North Adelaide's Harvey and Crows Strachan to come. Despite being outclassed, the Eagles showed fight and kicking straight could have secured an unlikely win against a side boasting aerial supremacy in Sproule, Skinner, Brooksby, Freitag, Haines. I thought that this season would be another developmental year in view of not being able to recruit a seasoned ruckman, key forward and key back. If we can get games into Brinker-Ritchie and Lukac we might be in a little better shape next year. With Brinker-Ritchie, no SANFL ruckman is going to have a better reach at centre bounces but, like Lukac, will be pushed aside with opponent's body strength. But hey! it will come. (noticed that Brisbane/exWWT 205cm Henry Smith is contracted until end 2024 so that's no help).
Rowe was very good but I admired the toughness (and skill) of Hardie...again

Re: South v Eagles Friday 7th April
Eagles were solid, but South able to put the foot down in that 2nd quarter and just as importantly, close down play to the outer side in the 3rd quarter. Maybe a mixture of better coaching by Wright, home ground advantage and some dare (or lack thereof) from the players on field. We didn’t do enough thanks to wasted opportunities in the 1st quarter and didn’t back ourselves to switch to the attacking side of the ground when we needed to score goals in the 3rd. The last quarter was brave. Not a bad time to have a bye before a trip down to Stratarama. Plenty for Sheedy to digest from these first two games.

Have to agree with your points on Lukac re his aerial skills.
I noticed that in the last half when he was stationed a lot up forward that a couple of times the ball was kicked towards him and he'd approach the mark only putting up one arm rather than two for some reason.
For the time being I think he looks better in the ruck than at up forward.
