EAGLES
Livewire Eagles forward Lachlan McGregor will miss Sunday’s game against South at Hickinbotham Oval on Sunday.
McGregor is expected to miss at least three weeks with a hamstring strain suffered against Sturt in Round 1 while midfielder Joe Sinor will be sidelined for a fortnight with an ankle ailment.
Emerging teenagers Jack Gaffney and Rhys Woods could make their IGA League debuts if they survive the cut from the Eagles’ extended interchange bench.
Both 19, Gaffney and Woods have been joined by in the 23-man Eagles squad by Sam Rowland and Jake Von Bertouch.
Utility Giles Ellis is the only certain omission at this stage.
Reliable half-back Phil Raymond will play his 100th SANFL IGA League match.

Good to see C Giles (presume it's Cameron) playing on Sunday when he was earlier listed as missing another 4-6 weeks. Let's hope he gets through the game OK.
Also good luck to Lewie in his first match back.
Be getting down there early to have a look at these two - Eagles fortunes might be greatly improved if they can get match fit and get some form.
It's reported that Cameron Giles has only played a handful of games in past 2 seasons so he's someone of mystery but at 195cm, can run and obviously the skills to have been AFL listed, he's got to be a chance of being at worst, "useful" and at best, ?

What a shocker. Players looked very flat (even accepting South coming off a 9 day break compared to Eagles 6).
Two very obvious faults with the Eagles game plan which should be able to be simply fixed:
(1) the huge advantage that we gave South (and Sturt) in "deliberate out of Bounds on the full" rule. I reckon we would have doubled our opposition in give-aways. Sturt and South played further in from the boundary but we're continuing to play risky footy leading to and along the boundary plus poor kicking skills - recipe for disaster
(2) The lack of movement by our players downfield in offering a lead. if there's no clear space to lead into, then criss-cross each other/double back, help make a space for your team-mate. Instead we were stagnant downfield not giving the kicker any option. lazy football. Frustrating to watch!!!

The out of bounds deliberate rule needs to be looked at . In front of me a south runner ran in front of the ball two players one from each side couldnt get near the ball . Result south free honestly with a south runner blocking the way its a free to south .
And what was up with the grandstand wing boundry side northern goal ball from both teams was going out . Why not goto the far side .

Re: Eagles v South Hickinbotham oval 3rd april
12 to 2 for deliberate OOB frees yesterday.
Think the powers that be will be saying the rule is serving its purpose, 7 out of 9 games this year the winning teams have kicked 100 points or more, south have fallen short by a goal yesterday and 2 and a bit last week. The game is moving quicker and goals are being scored.
The holding the ball rule is the one that is annoying me, it seems against the spirit of the game that if like a couple of times yesterday there is a two on one contest where the one tries to get the ball while the two sweat off waiting for him to take possession then tackle straight away and are rewarded with a free.

Sitting by the boundary Line i noticed the umpires werent always paying the same holding the ball rule in each tackle .
Eagles players get grabbed one arm held cant get the ball out being held by two players its holding the ball
South players get grabbed one arm held can not get the ball out its a ball up
umpires should umpire the same way
The deliberate out of bounds was funny ball not touched south grabs the ball kicks away whistle blown brought back throw in . Umpires can not get the rules correct either drop the umpire or look at the rule

Re: Eagles v South Hickinbotham oval 3rd april
Bad day at the office, BUT
- 3 day extra recovery for our opponent is unacceptable scheduling by the SANFL. We should've had the bye with Sturt, and South should've played Central in Rd 2.
- that last touch rule is seriously a joke. The way they are doing it in the AFL this year is quite good... But the SANFL rule is a shocker. Has to go.
- really missed Wundke after half time, and totally missed McGregor. Our reserves players that come in to fill holes just aren't good enough unfortunately.
