We're all waiting for Norwood's comeback. Can we withstand the storm when it comes ?
Amazing is the growth in Hardie's skills and strength and looks set for a top season.
Can see a couple of weak links out there but so far the better players are carrying them with them
Hardie bog. I liked Lukac's game.

You are a very hard man to please "hawke", with Knight, D. Menzel, Toumpas, Collier-Dawkins, Lehmann, Brinker-Ritchie, Cameron, Studham and T. Menzel missing I thought it was a great team effort.
I've kept mentioning that Mitch Hardie had a fantastic pre-season and would be one to watch. BOG in my opinion.
Zane Williams with four goals looked very sharp and more mature.

Re: Round 1 Norwood v Eagles coopers stadium
Watched the game on the AFL pass I enjoyed that game hard as it was night game at Norwood . I admit only went to the trial game at Richmond . Last nights game was very much along the lines. By that I mean running attacking style along with a great defensive style by that attacking the Norwood players holding them up . 2 or 3 eagles players holding the Norwood man up with the ball was just fantastic . Hardie wow BOG Sinor great captains game pudney played well in his 50 th Williams wow he was great when he left for the AFL but he’s improved . I could ramble on this side is not playing like last years side it’s not the one that beat west in that awful trial game . I’m still over the moon for the win but how they’ve improved so much and some of the newbies ate fitting in . Lukac if I’ve spelt the young man’s name right he played fantastic against the so called number 1 ruck man from last yearwimpy wrote:hawke wrote:Great intensity by Eagles. Re: Round 1 Norwood v Eagles coopers stadium
A pleasing thing about the Sheedy-coached team compared to Eagles teams of the past, is that they rarely get run down once they've established a good lead - I recall many times in the past (pre-Sheedy times) when we've been 7-8 goals up against teams, only to be run down - Sheedy defends his lead well - only time I recall us being chased down in recent times was the 2021 semifinal against Glenelg (which we narrowly won).
It's an extra plus when we can win the clearances while nurturing Lukac (and Brinker-Ritchie when he returns). Lukac even adds speed to our midfield by following up well with groundballs and deft handballs. And importantly, because of the youth of our ruckmen, we can reasonably expect that they will be even better players by Round 20 than they are now. Sure, they get pushed aside at times by stronger-bodied opponents but at 21years and 19 years of age respectively, there is plenty of upside.
What are the injuries to Brinker-Ritchie, Lehman, Collier-Dawkins that are keeping them out? Their heights are going to be important in dry daytime conditions in the weeks ahead.

How good! Exciting brand of football and the tackling and pressure was first class.
A handful of the first gamers and inexperienced players all stepped up and the old brigade didn’t miss a beat. Goldsworthy on his wing and Rowland controlling the defence were excellent.
A seriously challenging year last year looks to have been addressed over the pre-season and it’s back to business.
As Hawke mentioned above - lots of improvement to be had - but with the way they’ve played that 1st round - they look to have given themselves the best platform to do that.
Already looking forward to Good Friday vs South!

Re: Round 1 Norwood v Eagles coopers stadium
Missing from the Eagles last match of 2022:
Mutch, Clarke, Knight, Allmond, Lehmann, D. Menzel, Redden, Toumpas and Studham.
Replacements last night:
Williams, Rowe, Beattie, Mawson, D'Aloia, Litster, Pearce, Lukac and Pudney.
Our Current Injured/Ill list:
Knight, Collier-Dawkins, Toumpas, Brinker-Ritchie, D. Menzel, Lehmann, Cameron, Studham, T. Menzel, Hoille, Phillips and Tilley.
A bit of a conundrum for next week, does Sheedy play some of the injured that are on the brink of coming back or does he give them a further two weeks break to recover properly, with the Gather round bye in the third weekend.
B-Ritchie a minor hand injury. Lehmann illness, C-Dawkins nearly recovered from a knee strain.

Weckert rucking in the last term. No injuries I hope. Was it just to get him into the game more?.

"Lehmann illness". I heard last night at ground that L went to Bali and came back with Bali Belly. He lost a lot of weight. But not a season ending problem.

I think you will find he has had a very bad case of tonsillitis.

I think the umpire went to water in reporting McFarlane for a sling tackle. I was only 10 metres away and it looked like the Norwood player landed on his shoulder. With the head issues the umpires will report the slightest of incidents in fear of being dropped for none reporting.

Lukac looked buggered and Ballenden seemed to have a leg problem, good to let Weckert have a good run around.

At the end of the game Ballenden had an ice pack around the thigh/hamstring area.

Pity the B Grade lost. After a poor start they looked like they would Run over Norwood. Just a lack of structure and a lucky free cost us.

Re: Round 1 Norwood v Eagles coopers stadium
Really proud of the way the Team played on Friday night.
Just cracking in, taking the game on and playing with some flair!
All the new players showed something. Loved having Williams and Rowe rotating in the midfield and resting forward. Goldsworthy – magnificent! When he is fit and firing we win more often than not. Very likely at some point during the season his will ping his hamstring given recent years so hoping Sheedy manages him throughout the season to ensure he is on the park each and every game. How good has Hardie become? A great example of someone who when he came to us obviously had some talent but highly inconsistent and needed time to grow into his game by spending a few years in the reserves. He’s now demonstrating what he can do on a regular basis. The last player I want to highlight his Lukac. Only a handful of possessions but just his ability to compete with Boyd and get his hand to the ball was massive. Don’t know how the Club awards went but on his efforts alone I would have him second best behind Hardie.

ZAC MILBANK
If Woodville-West Torrens wanted to make an emphatic statement, it certainly achieved it after ambushing reigning premier Norwood by 46 points at The Parade on Friday night.
Unfurling the 2022 premiership flag was about the only highlight Redlegs fans received as the Eagles went about signalling their intent in ominous fashion, keeping the hosts to just one goal until late in the third quarter.
Playing Eagles wingman Kai Pudney chimed in with 23 disposals as he celebrated his 50th SANFL League game while new captain Joey Sinor was relentless in his first outing as skipper while tallying 21 disposals and nine tackles.
Crafty goalsneak Zane Williams nailed four goals in his return from Geelong while Luke Beecken snuck down for a rare goal on the run from inside the centre square to go with 18 possessions.
On a night to forget for the Legs, captain Matt Nunn fought hard for 21 disposals and six clearances while experienced stars Declan Hamilton and Nik Rokahr had 18 touches each.
But the real bright spot for the Legs was 17-year-old debutant Logan Evans, who looked extremely polished across half-back in his first Hostplus League game.
The AAMI Rookie from Hectorville also collected 18 disposals while taking six marks and laying three tackles in an encouraging display for the hosts.
without Ken Farmer Medallist Daniel Menzel, Shearman Medallist Riley Knight and triple premiership midfielder Jimmy Toumpas, the Eagles were clinical en route to opening up a match-high advantage of 60 points, 10 minutes after half-time.
Eagles coach Jade Sheedy predicted Mitch Hardie was primed for a breakout season after enjoying a flawless summer and the former Canberra Demon didn’t let his mentor down with a best afield display yielding 34 disposals, eight clearances, eight tackles and two goals.
Former Crow James Rowe wasn’t far behind him in his return to the Eagles with 26 disposals and two goals while wily veteran Matt Goldsworthy was his efficient self with ball in hand while collecting 23 disposals and booting two majors.

Round 1
Long season ahead but a win is a win. Never sure what to make of trial form but Friday night what really stood out
was our intensity around the contest. Gang tackling, harrassment and closing speed were sensational. Ball movement will
improve no doubt but a great way to start. Lukac competed brilliantly and if he continues to improve it will be a bonus
to have Ballenden forward more often. Mitch Hardie looks to be set for a great season. Some great talent to come in
but well done to the club keeping us around the mark
