Re: Fridat 12th dec trial game
I saw the first half only. Scores irrelevant but Eagles approx 2 goals in front.
Petrenko was playing ( and no news whether he's signed) and was useful. Trimmed down.
Difficult to identify the players with no program. And with some players changing jumpers.
Lewis early, Boyd and Jarrad were the biggest kick winners with Boyd doing a lot of good work in close. Backline led by Templeton, Rakawasi and Thompson all did well. Alby Dunstan looked good at CHF.
Trying to identify Nick Hayes. There was a big bodied No 7 in at the centre who looked a bit raw and one paced (slow). There was also a slick midfielder type with pace No 19 who looked good.
Killed in the rucks and looking forward to Thurlow coming across after Christmas.

Re: Fridat 12th dec trial game
Very glad to see Pup back where he belongs. I imagine he will have a key leadership role...who will be the new captain ? Rowntree, Petrenko, Jarrad (unlikely), Lewis ? Our squad looks ok, hope we have enough pace to go with the stronger teams.

Re: Fridat 12th dec trial game
Would think Luke Jarrad would take the Captaincy since Godden as coach of the State team in 2014 had him State vice-captain. Has toughened up over recent seasons and chosen to take a few heavy body hits for the sake of the team, something that we didn't see earlier in his career. Represents the club in the media very well. Still playing good footy. Maybe Rowntree as vice-captain although the Club might want to see how he performs in his comeback before adding another responsibility

Not sure they will offer the captaincy to Flash, worthy yes but probably in his last year or two. Will like to see the new leadership model including Pup, Rowntree, Goldy and maybe Lewis to steer the ship.

Re: Fridat 12th dec trial game
Yeah agree Hareeba... Flash the obvious choice but pretty sure they'll go long term. Rowntree would be a shoe-in if not for coming back from his knee, but they still may go with him. Pat Giuffreda is a player favourite and could get the nod, and I reckon Lewy has the goods for it too.
Goldsy good for leadership group but not sure about captain, and Pup is aspiring to bigger things beyond 2015 so potentially may not be long term at the Eagles either.

Re: Fridat 12th dec trial game
If you are just talking leadership group all the names mentioned are worthy, I would throw Thommo and Boyd in the mix also, so many names that would be worthy has to be a good thing.
Would think Phil Raymond would be a possible captain.

Re: Fridat 12th dec trial game
Agree, Thommo has leadership qualities, Boyd is more of a loner and we need him just to get the footy and have a great year. Phil Raymond I thought had a poor season so him and Goldy need to get back playing good footy every week to get back on even ground. Guiffreda good qualities as well. I think it will be between Lewis and Rowntree but if Pup has committed to us long term then I would look strongly at him. My money on Scott Lewis....plus he takes a good photo for marketing purposes.

Boyd! Seriously! Not respected by anyone at soujth or Central, or even liked by anyone at the Eagkes. Would almost rather Ainger!

Re: Fridat 12th dec trial game
Fair enough Dobber.
I'm really not too fussed what South and Centrals think of him, doubt he would be either.
We must have some good actors amongst the players cos he seemed to have quite a few mates at members night tonight.
Much rather him playing for us than against us.

Re: Fridat 12th dec trial game
Why are you blokes dismissing Luke Jarrad as Captain? He ticks all the boxes. Don't say age because Powell was older when appointed and has at least 2, maybe 3 good years in him.
No other candidate comes even close but maybe Rowntree as VC as an apprenticeship.

Flash would be a good captain, its just that he is nearing the end of his career and I reckon we need someone from the younger group.

Re: Fridat 12th dec trial game
Has the trial in January against Westies (second trial after first in Dec) happened yet. On the Westies site, they announce that it's happening "...tomorrow night" but don't say what the date was that the announcement was made so ? what "tomorrow" means. Hopefully, it's Monday 12th Jan night but can someone confirm.

Believe the second one was going to be early February.
Tonight was first night back at training.
Think westies tomorrow was posted on December 11
