Re: SANFL round 1 announced Eagles v South
I think that we have Tony Dey as one of the umpires.

Very important win - well done.
Hentschell, Tiller and Sam Jacob will be welcome additions for our next match against Sturt. Got to "hang in there" and win the early games before gathering strength mid-season with the return of class players (Kite, Salter, Schulz)

Unfortunately had to work today and only caught passages on the radio. Sounds like we turned it on in the 3rd quarter and that was enough, losing the other 3 quarters. McKenzie sounded like he was in everything which is a good sign - he was solid last year, but not at his best form.
Good to see Zac Fitzgerald slot a few goals, especially the early ones which were important to keep us in touch. Also good to see Lane and Goldsworthy amongst the best in the reserves. Can't wait for the Adelaide Oval the Fri night after the bye.

Give personal highlights packages to McKenzie, Petrenko, Hall, Cica and a couple of others. Throw the master copy in the bin, save for the third quarter.

Never gave it a thought carrots
As "gods" said at presentations we lost this game last year we played 20minutes of good footy .100 minutes wasn't good we still won by 15 points .We will take the early win!!
Macca and Powell shone .And Fabulous Phil Raymond showed he can kick goals .Hall showed he can do the magical stuff .and the pair combined for a great goal in the last quarter.
Eagles depth showed they could win without the "BIG NAME" players .

Match Report
Eagles 11.12 (78) defeated Panthers 10.3 (63)
03/04/2011 Rnd 1
Eagles vs South Adelaide
By Peter Argent
With one powerful quarter of football, the Eagles ensured they started their 2011 campaign with a comfortable 15 point win.
On a magnificent Autumn afternoon they disposed of an improving Panthers outfit, although many players were still shaking off the cobwebs, in the first official game of the winter.
Over the first half the Eagles were second to the ball, and didn’t win enough contested possessions against a polished Panthers outfit, under 2006 Eagles premiership coach Ron Fuller.
“South was first to the footy before half time, and I had a good chat to them at the break,” coach Michael Godden said.
“We put the score on the board in the third (term) and the last was a bit of an arm wrestle.
“What was pleasing is that we could respond quickly as a group, after a modest start.”
Zac Fitzgerald kicked the first goal of the season, in the opening minute of the match, but Woodville-West Torrens could only manage two more for the quarter, one after the siren to Phil Raymond.
The second quarter was even barer, with Leigh Treeby’s effort the only major for the term.
In the third, Woodville-West Torrens dominated the centre square, won the majority of the clearances, turning a 15-point half time deficit into a 26-point lead, to virtually seal the contest at this point.
Kicking towards the Club rooms end, they kept South Adelaide scoreless, while piling on 6.5 in this period.
In the end there was clearly a difference in quality of the two sides, although South really gave a contest in the first half and weren’t disgraced.
Captain Mark McKenzie was superb, in a real leader’s game, while Ben Grieger was great in defence after conceding three goals in the first 10 minutes of the contest.
Angus Rowntree, who had a team-high 31-possession match, lifted his performance in the second half, as did Crows listed player Jared Petrenko off half back. Zac Fitzgerald presented well, kicking three goals and could have doubled that tally, while Chris Hall kicked two goals in a strong debut.
Kadina lad Cameron Sutcliffe and Raymond (two goals) also played their first league game for the Club in the season opener.
The Eagles have a bye in round two before taking on the Double Blues in a Friday night fixture at Adelaide Oval on April 15.

I dunno, I recall Chris Hall kicking a nice goal on the run against South in the wet in 2008.

Leigh Treeby was also concussed in the Eagles match with South yesterday and didn't return. But Eagles coach Mick Godden said it was a pretty heavy knock and Treeby would have stayed off for the remainder of the match last season as well. ``He had tunnel vision and loss of feeling in one arm, so definitely (wasn't coming back on),'' Godden said.
