Re: Eagles recruiting for season 2023
Watched West Reserves against us and they were fairly tall. Number 51 Max Marslen looked like a heavier version of Rod Galt and old enough to be Gotch's brother so I doubt whether he'd made the grade at the Eagles. Hamish Ellem has played a bit of league and got a vote in the Magarey so he might be worth a chat. Slim pickings other than than that and probably none that offer anything better than our current crop.Aerie wrote:Surely Westies have a ruckman and key defender we can pinch. That’s what we usually do when we’re a bit desperate!

Do the non listed players for the afl teams get paid well. eg Hall, Sharrad

Pretty sure its a set figure per game for those players, originally I think it was $100 per game, assume that has changed in the last 8 years

Just from memory I think it was $400 a match in 2013 and probably risen since then and reduced for covid. I think they are allowed marquis contracted players as well.Columbo wrote:Gregod wrote:Do the non listed players for the afl teams get paid well. eg Hall, Sharrad

Well why did L Sharrad leave WWTFC and go play for the Crows. Surely he did not think they would eventually pick him for the main list. We could have used him

Re: Eagles recruiting for season 2023
Louis was no longer required by the Eagles and left the club at the start of the 2021 Season along with Chris Hall. He then played for Port District last year and no doubt Goddsy gave him a call re playing for the Crows as a top up player. Louis' game style does not suit Sheedy's game plan and I believe the right decision was made.

Thats the way I remember it as well. PA grabbed a few of our non required players as well. I think Weideman may have done ok for us this year. The Barton wrote:Louis was no longer required by the Eagles and left the club at the start of the 2021 Season along with Chris Hall. Kobe MUTCH - gone to South Adelaide. Disappointing news.

I thought Mutch was pretty ordinary and got worse as the season went on. His best game was by far the 2021 Grand Final and for that, thanks for the service.
Had good skills on both feet and an ability to accumulate disposals, but just looks to be cruising along most of the time.

At the end of the note to members. I see the board has not been sleeping.
The Club will announce some exciting signings in coming weeks.

This is very accurate.
To me he never lived up to the expectation of what many supporters were hoping when he was first recruited. He had the odd good game here and there (as pointed out by Aerie, the 2021 GF) but I can't recall many matches where he lifted the team on his own or played a really good game when the team was getting beaten - he tended to accumulate only in matches where other midfielders were accumulating.
For that reason, I don't think his loss will be much of a blow to the team. I think we could cover him. More importantly, he would have been sucking up a fair bit of money which will now be available to spend on a ruck and some key forwards.
It will be interesting to see what Dylan Clarke decides to do. I think Mutch was his mate and I understand Clarke mainly decided to come to SA to try and be redrafted (which won't happen).

South would be cashed up with Gibbs likely to pull the pin and maybe also Broadbent. Mutch will always be remembered for his 2021 Grand Final efforts but unfortunately he never got close to replicating that form in 2022. Down hill skier perhaps.

Injuries may be against him and he is Norwood. If fit yes.

Hmm like Broadbent was an Eagle we lost many ex AFL players to other SANFL clubs like South and North

No love lost there. Did not play well at North in his last year and wasn't up to his best with us. Makes room for a young guy to prove themselvesThe Barton wrote:Would not be surprised in the least. And you wouldn't think anyone else would pick him up (hopefully, from an Eagles point of view).
Makes an absolute mockery of the mid season draft.
I did see Zane joining in on the celebrations on the MCG after the game so good luck to him but time to come home now!
I believe Sheedy was recently showing our facilities (gym) to a ruckman so hopefully this leads to something.
Norwood have proven with Harry Boyd that they are out there.

Re: Eagles recruiting for season 2023
Jordan West was in our system for many years, I think only leaving after the 2021 season. How old is he? Where did he play in 2022? With Redden retiring and no obvious replacement, should Sheedy be trying to get him back with an opportunity to lead the Ruck?

I think if he did end up playing somewhere this season it would have only been in some very lowly league or Division. I don't recall his name popping up anywhere. But yes, I agree it would be worth exploring whether he'd be interested. I think after his first or second season with us he was invited to trial at the AFL SA State Combine at the end of the season and I remember having high hopes that his development would continue. But for whatever reason his form seemed to stagnate from that point. Still, there was definitely something there. Perhaps with the responsibility of being our #1 ruck he'd find some consistency.

Actually I think we've done a pretty good job attracting back to our club as many as we have. Besides Broadbent I can only think of McMahon (to Sturt) and McDonough (North) who have selected other clubs upon return.

Waiting for someone like Spelly to add context
