I fear Sturt. Mattner has restructured and they are a form team atm.

Just about full strength on paper? Only really Clay Cameron missing who’d be considered best 22?

Mc Farlane
Agree Reddeer, although we have seen only snippets of his best, on the expanses of Adelaide Oval
on a decent day his run could be the difference

Rate Clay Cameron very highly. Disappointing that he has had to plug a hole down back when he can give us that mobile marking target up forward with accurate kicking. Should consider 2 setups:
1. Against North, Guiffreda takes Hender.
2 Against Glenelg, Von Bertouch plays down back on McBean with Clay Cameron playing CHF

Good day of footy for the club.
Tsitas in everything today and thought although he didn’t have huge numbers Jack Firns had a big impact today, crashing packs and bring the ball to ground.
Interesting place Unley

Interesting place Unley
Firns goal Pele style was good
Tsitas could’ve got leather poisoning today
Jungfer and Pudney are getting better every week
The ground surface looked bad on the pass

Yes, that Firns goal (our only one in the last quarter) was critical, otherwise it would have been a real nail-biting finish. Although the game was somewhat scrappy, I thought we did very well to hold off a determined Sturt, who had a huge incentive to win this. Sturt supporters at the ground showed that they could be just as obnoxious as North's!

Ground looked a bit rough in patches but was in better condition today than it was 2 weeks ago when the 2's played there.

The GBU
The Good...Didn't loose after a bye, Defense great, Tsitas, Pudny, Redden, Thommo,
Bad, Menzel boys quiet. They come in and out of matches, Forward movement, Stengle at times
Ugly, Our aerial prowess in the forwards, Von Bertouch, Troy Menzel, Unley Oval

I’d like to look at this as a positive ( I know I’m not always positive).
1 we won after a bye
2 excluding Glenelg, Sturt were the form side of the competition. Or so internet experts say .
3 we need to improve but we won at a tiny oval that surface didn’t look great
4 Some of our younger guys stepped up .
However we need to improve to go further into the finals race .
And the pass quality isn’t great when we watch it seems whoever calls the games is always red hot fans ect of the other side . But it’s better than nothing !

Spot on, Goddy re our forward line!. No aerial power and Stengle and Menzels aren't snapping up the loose ball like they did earlier. Von Bertouch just can't find the ball ( for the past season and a half) -return him to the backline where he was amongst SANFL best backmen in the past; otherwise on the bench.
Riley Knight hasn't yet recaptured his brilliant form pre-ankle injury.
There are some worrying signs - good that we have Centrals next week as a "trial game" and , if Cameron is fit, allows the option of Cameron into a league side for "touch" rather than Seconds for his obvious lack of match fitness. On the positive side, Goldsworthy showed his usual class and incisive field kicking in the Seconds. And ? what happened to Toumpas?

Re: Sturt V Eagles Unley Oval August 28
Sanfl snap shot
Woodville-West Torrens secured second spot on the ladder as it severely dented Sturt’s finals hopes with a hard-fought 10-point win at Unley Oval.
Trailing at the first change, the Eagles surged past the Double Blues in the second term with 3.3 on the board to the hosts’ one behind. It proved to be a pivotal period of play given the closeness of the result.
And it now leaves Sturt needing to beat North Adelaide in Round 18 while also relying on West Adelaide defeating fifth-placed South Adelaide at Flinders University stadium.
Prolific Eagle James Tsitas found plenty of the ball at the stoppages to tally 42 disposals and six clearances as a host of his teammates chimed in with at least 20 touches, including Kai Pudney, Joseph Sinor, Ethan Haylock and Riley Knight, who also kicked a goal and laid six tackles.
Angus Poole was also important for the visitors with two goals and 20 disposals as Daniel Menzel and Tyson Stengle also bagged a pair.
Sturt’s Abe Davis was a huge reason why his side remained in the contest, collecting 25 disposals and 11 marks while also kicking three goals.
Double Blues captain James Battersby had 30 disposals, six clearances and a goal while Tom Lewis continued his fine season with 27 disposals, eight tackles and six clearances.

Re: Sturt V Eagles Unley Oval August 28
We have 2nd spot wrapped up in all grades so next week may be used to rest players and try out other options. I like Hawkes idea of VB on McBean if required. I hope Cameron and McFarlane come up. What is the issue with Jimmy Toumpas.
I think its an ideal path into finals to test stategies although Central are a fast but shorter side.

Re: Sturt V Eagles Unley Oval August 28
Not sure Macfarlane comes back in the best 22. Beecken does everything and more that we would’ve recruited Macfarlane for. Maybe if he dominates Reserves?
What’s happened to Zane Williams? 6 touches in the Reserves yesterday. Lack of opportunity?
Firns aggression and ability to play a variety of roles has him in the best 22 come finals time. Haylock played well yesterday.
Toumpas and Goldsworthy are certainties if fit. Cameron most likely for Lehman.
I think VB keeps his spot in the forward line. It allows Hayes to be used as Sheedy sees fit. There is that option, though, to push him back if things are going pear-shaped during a game.
I thought the Eagles were pretty good yesterday, just holding a pretty determined Sturt team at arms length from the 2nd quarter onwards. The desperation was there. Some class to return with Goldsworthy and Toumpas.
