Eagles Internal Trial
Went and had a look at the trial match tonight.
Toumpas, Lonergan, Thompson, Sinor, Goldsworthy, Buxton, Firns and Haylock didn't play.
J. Hayes, N. Hayes Petrenko and Hall only played the first half.
With no player names or numbers to go by it was a hard task to recognise players.
Really impressed with the style of game especially after half time. Run, run and more run was the theme. The players were still running hard in the last quarter. Kicking has improved significantly from last season. More targets were seemed to be hit. Play on situations were more numerous. Without going in to best players, a mention about some lesser known players is needed. Pierce Seymour did most of the kicking in from points and was generally good, Zane Williams was very clever up forward, Lachy McNeil was hard. Rhyan Mansell was tenacious and clever at halfback. Harry Morgan gathered quite a few touches and had several shots at goal.
Next week will give a better idea of how the team will line up.

Re: Eagles Internal Trial
Great writeup as usual Wimpy. I have a good feeling about this year. We seem to have taken a better direction this year re: coach.
BTW the U16 are on now on the digital pass channel. First quarter our boy are looking good. VG quality of ball movement.
35 to 20 at H/t.

Looks and sounds familiar. U16 lead all day and get rolled in the last 2 minutes by 3 points. Happened to the girls in one of their games as well. Luck not on eagles side very often

Re: Eagles Internal Trial
Went and watched the U!6s play Sturt (lost 9.5 to 8.14) in their first round match. Although they led for all but the last two minutes I had the impression that Sturt were slightly better most of the day and ended up having more scoring shots. The Eagles were more proficient in attack but didn't have as much of the ball. Of interest for the U16s were Mattaes Phillipou son of Sam a very good, clever on baller, also an excellent basketballer - might have to make a choice. Koby Poulton son of Jarred Poulton played well, but the star was Hunter Carter son of Stephen Carter, as an on baller he was all class and very damaging, will likely go a lot further. Izaac Niemann nephew of David Niemann (son of Scott) also played at FF.
An under18s trial against Sturt followed, I left at half time with the score, Eagles 11.4 to Sturt 5.3. To that stage the Eagles looked all class and will be very good again this season. Two stars in ruckman Henry Smith (inj) and Lachy Jones ( he played in the senior trial Friday night) didn't play. The u18s seemed to have height all over the ground and played a very watchable type of footy. Of interest was Ben Schwartz son of Alan, he did some useful things up forward. Caleb Poulter on the wing dominated the first quarter.
Special mention for Jacob Godden (son of) although very small, he was terrific, he was in every thing and was very precise with his kicking.
Overall a very impressive first half.
