luke Thompson 2020 captain

Woodville-West Torrens premiership defender Luke Thompson has assumed the sole captaincy of the Eagles for the 2020 Statewide Super League season.
Sharing the prestigious role with fellow backman Pat Giuffreda since 2015, Thompson has been given the nod to toss the coin by new Eagles coach Jade Sheedy.
”Luke is an outstanding young man with a great passion for our football club,” Sheedy said.
”He is everything you like a leader to be on and off the field.”
The 29-year-old – who has played 161 Statewide Super League games for the Eagles since 2010 – will have the support of an emerging leader in Joseph Sinor as vice-captain.
Sinor, who began his junior career at Oval Avenue in 2010, will be part of a three-man leadership group which also includes strongly-built midfielder Jesse Lonergan as deputy vice-captain.
Lonergan, 25, has been quick to make his presence felt in gaining respect from his peers, having played just one season (2019) with the Eagles since being recruited from the Gold Coast Suns.
”Joseph and Jesse are strong leaders who have really impressed me since my arrival at the football club and will provide great support for Luke.” Sheedy said.

Great leader Thommo and a great clubman right from when he arrived in the rookie draft.
Excellent to see Joey get the nod as VC, another great clubman who is a great role model for younger players.
Jesse's recent AFL experience in the mix will be valuable also.

I was looking at the Honour Board to see how long Luke Thompson had been Club Captain for. 2021 was his 7th year. Andrew Rogers and Gavin Colville were both Captain for 6 years and Pat Giuffreda of course shared the Captaincy with Thompson for 5 years.

Bruce Lindsay was Torrens' 2nd longest serving captain, his 7th and final year in 1990, the final year before the merger. The record stands with Bob Hank, who served as Captain for 9 years from 1947-1955.

Luke Thompson will go down as our greatest captain.

No argument from me goddy11 - he's been magnificent and the record stands for itself. Playing better than ever as well. Along with Mark McKenzie (my all time favourite player) who came to us as a Port Power Rookie - we certainly did well out of that old mini-draft system!
