Eagles Captain 2012?
So if McKenzie relinquishes the captaincy due to his working in Victoria, who will be Eagles captain in 2012?
I always thought Macca would be captain for another 3-4 years and Rowntree would take over, but it appears not to be that way.
If the Eagles go with someone they want to have to carry the side forward over the next few years that would rule out Cica and Powell.
Probably Grocke or Jarrad are the leading candidates? Both are part of that leadership cluster that have won two premierships. Perhaps Aaron Day would be one out of left field? Wasn't he captain of the Glenelg reserves when Godden was coaching? Scott Lewis?
Unless they do go with Cicca or Powell for one season if they expect one of Rowntree, Allmond, Goldsworthy, Staple etc. to be long term leaders of the club.

I'd go with Powell for 2 yrs and try and groom one of the younger lads in that time to take over after that.

Likewise and any of them would be a good choice.

Think we could do with a thread just for Mark! I agree with Powell, Jarrad or Grockes for captain this next season.
I congratulate Mark on the way that he always our club first. We cant knock him for taking on his new position. Im sure he will do everything possible to remain one of our most important players in 2012! MY THANKS FOR EVERYTHING YOU HAVE DONE FOR OUR CLUB, AND BEST WISHES FOR YOUR FUTURE!

Thought I would chuck in Rob Shirley's name as a possible candidate for the captains job.

At the end of next year I expect to see an exodus of players due to retirement, returning home and the draft. We will probably lose Cicollella,Jarrad,Toumpas and definately McKenzie.A massive hit to our midfield stocks.
Powell stands out, appoint him for two years as captain, prevent him from going home, his work rate and on field leadership over the years I believe have earned him this coveted role.
