PORT Adelaide premiership player Jarrad Schofield says his teenage son – a star on the rise
– has his heart set on following in his footsteps and playing for the Power.
An All-Australian under-16 player this year, Taj Schofield has relocated from Perth to Adelaide with his family and is available to Port as a fatherson selection at the 2020 national draft.
The 16-year-old has joined SANFL club Woodville-West Torrens, where he will play alongside fellow Power fatherson prospects Jackson Mead and Trent Burgoyne, who are eligible for next year’s draft.
Taj also will next year join the pair at Henley High School, where he has been accepted into the school’s prestigious specialist sport football program – one that has helped produce the two brightest talents at this year’s draft, Eagle Jack Lukosius and West Adelaide’s Izak Rankine.
“There’s been a lot of talk about Taj,’’ said Jarrad, who has joined Port as an assistant coach after leading WAFL club Subiaco to three premierships.
“He’s still got two years ahead of him (before he is eligible for the draft) and if it was to happen, it would be fantastic for him. If you ask him, he would definitely say his heart is close to Port Adelaide and I dare say he’d love to wear these (Power) colours.
“But we will cross that bridge when we get to it.’’
Taj earnt All-Australian under-16 selection playing for Western Australia this year and finished the season on a high by winning a colts premiership with Subiaco.
He has been selected in the South Australian hub of the new-look AFL Academy squads, along with Mead and Burgoyne, and is a member of Port’s Next Generation Academy. Jarrad played 131 games as a midfielder for the Power from 1999-2004, winning a flag in his last season at the club, after starting his career with West Coast.

Just to keep this topic going , has the support group to Lonergan been appointed. A new coach coming in will have no idea on players there at present. Capabilities and potential. Will Sam be involved in recruiting?

Re: Comings and goings 2018 to 2019
The WWTFC is delighted to announce the signing of 2011 Premiership player Jimmy Toumpas.
Toumpas, a premiership player at just 17 years of age, returns to the Club after 6 years in the AFL system where he played 37 games for Melbourne and Port Adelaide. Jimmy, still just 24 years of age, will add plenty of class to the 2019 playing group.
On Jimmy’s signing CEO Luke Powell said “We are excited to have Jimmy, another Eagles junior product, return to our football club. Jimmy’s versatility will see him playing an important role through our midfield and defence that will complement our group. We see Jimmy as a great long-term player for us and a player who can provide great guidance and leadership to the playing list.
Jimmy, who has signed a two year deal said, “It’s great to be back at the Eagles my junior club and I can’t wait to get around my new teammates and play a role in our future success. It’s an exciting time with Sam as the new coach and I’m looking forward to getting things started.”
Jimmy will join teammates for the first night of preseason which will commence this Monday 26th November from 5:30pm at Eastern Parade Ottoway.
Please join the WWTFC in welcoming back Jimmy to the Club.

Re: Comings and goings 2018 to 2019
Went to the first training and ran into "feathers" so he will have similar info as I have.
Cam Sutcliffe will be the magpies marquee player. Has also got a job in their footy dept.
We will be talking to Malcolm Karpanny, but South and Glenelg are also right in to him.
Looks like Jesse Lonergan will be at the Eagles.
A couple of Launceston players might follow the coach to the Eagles.
There could be a former players son coming to the Eagles, has been on an AFL list!!!!, but South are right in to him.
Didn't see Jimmy T. out there. Ben Nason, Pup and Lewey were all training.

Off the topic, Hearing some bad reports on the health of Bobby Enright. Things don’t look good from what I’m told.
