Paul Stewart retirement
The Woodville West Torrens Football Club wishes to advise all it members, commercial partners and supporters that Paul Stewart has announced his retirement from the SANFL after accepting a new job which won’t allow him to play on in 2019.
Paul’s football journey has taken a full circle after winning the 2006 SANFL League Premiership in just his 2nd League match, Paul was drafted to Port Adelaide with the 23rd pick in the 2006 AFL draft where he spent 10 seasons playing 101 games before returning to Oval avenue for the last two seasons.
On Paul’s departure CEO Luke Powell said “Since coming back from the AFL system to his beloved Eagles Paul has been exceptional for the club both on and off the field. Paul has shown exceptional leadership within the playing group and his performances have been full of class and his character off field has set a great example to the playing group. We thank Paul for his outstanding service and wish him all the very best in his exciting new career opportunity.”
Please join the Woodville West Torrens Football Club in thanking Paul for his hard work, loyalty and commitment whilst playing in the Eagles Guernsey. We wish Paul, wife Kirra and children Arlo and Steele all the success in the future.

I read somewhere that a few players were given a DCM. Anyone know who and was it by Godden. If yes was that premature.

Re: Comings and goings 2018 to 2019
I saw that mentioned on the SA Footy blog about 8 players being told they were no longer required. Then I heard Godden being interviewed on SANFL radio site and he did mention that he had talked to 8 players and then the playing group to tell them that he was off to the Crows. I guess that it is no longer his business who goes or stays then. It would be up to the new coach unless the board has had something to do with it as well. I guess we will find out eventuallygoddy11 wrote:I read somewhere that a few players were given a DCM. Anyone know who and was it by Godden. If yes was that premature.

Brent Guerra being mentioned in the tiser today
Not sure what his coaching credentials are since he stopped playing.

MJ this is a summary
HAWTHORN premiership player Brent Guerra is eyeing a return to the SANFL in the coaching vacancy at Woodville-West Torrens.
Guerra, 36, is part of the application field that closes with the Eagles at that closes at 5pm Friday.
Guerra, who started in the SANFL at Central District and was drafted to the AFL at Port Adelaide, is currently at AFL club Fremantle as a development coach.
There is strong interest from interstate candidates to fill the vacancy created by long-serving premiership coach Michael Godden’s move to the AFL as Adelaide’s new midfield coach.

The other change — prompted at Sturt by premiership coach Martin Mattner’s move to the Crows — has been filled by another former Central District player, Nathan Grima.
Guerra left SA at the end of 2003 when he was traded by the Power to St Kilda. His resume has 255 AFL games — 65 with Port Adelaide, 31 with St Kilda and 159 with the Hawks, including the 2008 and 2013 premierships.
Since retiring as a player at the end of 2014 — when he had a short stint in Tasmania with Devonport — Guerra has compiled a coaching apprenticeship at Hawthorn, Victorian community football and since 2016 at Fremantle.
Woodville-West Torrens remains in a waiting game with the SA Football Commission on its claim for compensation — as much as $100,000 — from being denied a grand final berth this year by the 19th man controversy in the preliminary final with North Adelaide.
