Will be a good test although I think South will be on the decline this year.

Its not a bad league side. I'm an Ethan Haylock fan. Hope he is there for game 1.

Rowntree and possibly Cam Giles missing from what could be our best looking team at this stage, although Giles is yet to prove himself.
Will interested to look at some of the "unknown" reserves players.

Re: Eagles v South Adelaide (Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval)
Eagles won a scrappy low scoring contest by 5 goals. The match did the Eagles a favour in making them compete against a team which played tight defensive footy and we had trouble developing run through to our forward line. But we won.
Lewis, McGregor, Petrenko (2nd half), Bornholm were the better players.
McGregor looks to have successfully made the transition to a midfielder but we also miss his dash in the forward line - Johannsen hasn't delivered on expectations yet.
Comitogianni on the wing did some good things. He and Hall aren't the quickest wingman in a side that is going to be relying on pace.
Noticeable in the last quarter when Jack Hayes went into the ruck, the South ruckman tapped the ball with ease to the South runners for two easy consecutive goals - surely, Jordan West has got to play.
Hall only played less than a half - did he get injured?
Couldn't see Brett Ellis's name, nor Haylock in the Seconds? Anyone know what's happened to them.
Summary: last week, The Eagles looked like certain top 3 stuff. Today, they looked like they have some work to do to. Centrals will be tough this week.

Re: Eagles v South Adelaide (Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval)
What an awful lacklustre game. Main thing was that we won. No one really stood out.
Clearly we have to find a second ruck especially against taller ruckmen. Two clear hit outs to South in the last quarter led diirectly to goals. It takes too much out of Jack Hayes playing CHF and ruck. I thought Paul Stewart worked nicely in to the game and did quite well as the sweeper. Giuffreda copped a corked calf. Lewis has trimmed down and is playing quite well
Brett Ellis is playing up in Wallaroo and Ethan Haylock DEFINITELY played in the
reserves.
The reserves are playing well and looked well drilled. The head trainers son Jesse Whinnen came on after the half time break and played FF/Forward pocket and kicked seven goals straight. Only about 5'9" he completely outplayed his opponents and appears to be a specialist forward pocket. Cameron Giles only lasted a half in the reserves. There are some rally good unknown youngsters in the reserves.
Don't think we can beat Centrals, unless there is a significant lift.

Also, the indigenous lad Yarran. Is he still with the Eagles?

His name does not appear on the clubs player list. http://wwtfc.com.au/players/
He was a good player but a little light on .
