Re: Eagles V Sturt March 28th Peter Motely oval
The problem with the trial games now that it isn't a pre season cup type format is that they literally are trials. All teams are trialling new players, trialling players in different positions, trialling new rules and how to deal with them etc.. It's really difficult to draw a form line through games when One team plays 21 players and the opposition play 24 or reserves players play a quarter against a league side.
Dont worry goddy....not yet anyway!

Re: Eagles V Sturt March 28th Peter Motely oval
also in this year's trials, one team may have been trying the 50 or 60 cap rotations while the other wasn't...
On another note - a few people have raised concerns to me regarding Tom Schwarz... has anyone heard of any issues with him?
I haven't, but now they've got me worried.
He wasn't named in league or reserves squad last week, and also not on injury list.
I hope it's a storm in a teacup, cuz we can't afford to lose another midfielder.

Tom Schwarz is not playing this season. I don't know why but I was told he is
having this year off. It may be connected with study but if anyone knows that will be handy.
Sam Rowland is probably the one to fill the role.

EAGLES
The Eagles will unveil prized recruits Nick O’Brien and Jarrad Redden against Sturt at Peter Motley Oval on Easter Monday.
Strong-bodied midfielder O’Brien (22, 188cm and 88kg) is expected to make his sizeable presence felt in the SANFL this year after being delisted by Essendon.
Former Port ruckman Redden returns to Oval Avenue after being cut by the Power last year.
Solid pre-season form looks set to be rewarded for Reserves Magarey Medallist Matt Appleton and improved youngster Joe Sinor while speedy indigenous forward Nick Yarran could make his IGA League debut.
The Eagles have named seven on their extended interchange bench as their match is on Easter Monday, meaning coach Michael Godden will need to cut at least four players before the bounce.
Utility Chris Hall will play his 100th IGA League match against the Double Blues.

Re: Eagles V Sturt March 28th Peter Motely oval
OK I was happy with the win yesterday . I can see there is still improvements to happen or fine tune the play a little bit , But it was nice to watch the new play on game day .
Id like Ainger to play in front more . Not happy with the short kicks out of defence.
Did like the younger guys playing and little macca on the ball a bit more ,
Wundke can eat all the pies he wants for 6 goals or more a game

If Boyd stays fit, he'll romp in on Magarey Medal night.
I enjoyed the game - always good to get a first up win, whilst still things to work on.
A couple soft goals to Sturt in that last qtr - should've won by 60+.

Re: Eagles V Sturt March 28th Peter Motely oval
We again played with a short defence - and got away with it.
Thompson was the only defender over 191 cm with Guifreda and Jarrad having to play as talls. Gives us run out of defence but unlikely to get away with that when we play Adelaide, Magpies, Norwood and even South (with Eddy, Haren, and a couple of others). Didn't see Summerton's name anywhere last week. Would be expecting Summerton (if fit) or Von Bertouch to be promoted shortly. Summerton the quicker of the 2 and gives more options but Von Bertouch better with bodywork and overhead on the stagnant forward.
James Boyd had said a few months ago that it was the first time he had been feeling free of his groin problems since he came to the Eagles and what a joy at last to have an inside player who also gives us that run and spread. Problem now is the extra attention he's going to get. Also great to see some of the clean ruckwork of Redden. Redden -to- Boyd, a handy combination. (And not ignoring the continuing massive contribution from Bornholm) Appears that the Eagles are slowly increasing the amount of ruckwork that Redden is doing. When the game appeared won, they rested him for much longer periods - with his dicey knees and a long season, makes sense.

McGregor has done a hamstring... 3-4 weeks.
Haven't heard the extent of Sinor's ankle.
Bit if a blow.

Re: Eagles V Sturt March 28th Peter Motely oval
Lewis listed as available, although a run in the 2's would be likely particularly considering no Reserves match the week after against Adelaide.
VB, Batley, Rowland would all come under consideration you'd think.
Jack Hayes kicked 4 goals in the ressies and Raikiwasa featured in best players.

Re: Eagles V Sturt March 28th Peter Motely oval
Jolly, in the Seconds, is very close to a call-up. Wouldn't be surprised if the inclusions are Summerton (or Von Bertouch) and Jolly this week.
Can't replace the forward pressure that McGregor puts on defenders with his closing speed so a big loss if out for 4 weeks. The injuries to McGregor and Sinor have given Appleton, Ellis and Yarrin some "breathing space" to perform in the next 2 games and establish themselves in the side...... otherwise.
We'll probably lose Yarrin midyear anyway for State U18 duties (either Northern Territory or SA)

If we do lose Yarrin to the under 18s that is a a loss
His knock on that sturt ruckman 40 or so kilos heavier than him was great .
Just needs a few more weeks to get his league legs
I guess it also opens the door for Press or the other Hayes .
Rowlands maybe as well but took a heavy head hit on Monday
