Re: Possible Ins For 2016
I reckon Nick O Brien - delisted from the bombers would be the sort of player we would be looking at...could he be one of the two players that we are waiting on outcome of draft...have no idea though just a guess

Re: Possible Ins For 2016
No he didn't... But it's the rookie draft Friday morning that we'll have to watch out for.
As unlikely as it may be, that's where even the likes of Petrenko and Hayes may get another chance... as well as O'Brien.

Nick O'Brien
from AFL Ratings web site: "Endurance and goal sense are his main assets but needs to improve his kicking and speed out of a contest"
Then later, re his VFL performances
"consistent midfielder, rarely plays a bad game"
"hard worker"
" Rd 3 27 disposals"
" Rd10 37 disposals"
" Rd 11 37 disposals"
188cm 88kg

Can't compete with the salary caps cheats they operate under their own rules

Other forums suggesting that the Eagles have snared O'Brien. Legs might be putting all eggs in one basket to get LJ.

Re: Possible Ins For 2016
Targeted Recruiting:
Needed a Ruckman - Got him - a good one, Redden
Needed a strong midfielder - Got him - Nick O'Brien
Plus Giles, 196cm runner, could be handy.
Enough to bring a smile to faces of hopeful supporters. Would expect our salary cap has been used up but dare we hope for one more midfielder (with pace). Still Ciccolella, as midfield coach, is predicting a big year for Angus Poole, and Schwarz has been steadily developing. Also hopefully having a fitter James Boyd in 2016. And getting another good year out of Jarrad Petrenko and Allmond (and,to a lesser extent, Lewis), we might just have enough.
Nick Hayes didn't look to have the "engine" for midfield in 2015 even though he played some good games. looked to be better suited as a half-forward but, a strong pre-season might improve that and Brisbane Bears first played him in that role only in mid 2013 so he is still learning having always been a forward -so plenty of upside.

Re: Possible Ins For 2016
Yeah just saw the email good news...if redden is fit should make a huge difference...was told because of his knee wont be able to start training until early next year but guess that's okay
I'm assuming wouldn't be able to fit in Mcmahon.... he would be handy

The twos and under eighteens had pretty good seasons right?
No need to recruit any more, they are already there Keep the Faith. The AFL has not raided us this year. Get your memberships sorted out for 2016, this side will be worth watching.

Listening to Godsy on SANFL radio, McMahon still in the mix.

That would be great if we could get him....could also paly in the midfield....I'm hearing that Boyd's got a bit of a problem with onset of Osteitis pubis which is a bit of a worry

Re: Possible Ins For 2016
McMahons grunt and hard attitude will be a bonus if he is sound enough to play. His style on ball would be great...you cant have too many midfielders....as we recently learnt.

Re: Possible Ins For 2016
Yes, other key points from Godden's SANFL interview besides the possibility of McMahon was:
the real possibility of Gus Rowntree being ready 2 games before the 2016 finals. Whether, he will have enough confidence in his knee so early is another question, might be for Seconds to have him confident for 2017.
But imagine having the grunt of O'Brien, Rowntree and McMahon in the centre square - might be looking for outside runners soon !!!!!!
Disappointing to hear James Boyd might have osteitis pubis - if so, may be the end of his career as he has carried the injury for 3 years already.

Re: Possible Ins For 2016
Just been watching 2 of Scott McMahon's VFL 2015 tapes. Playing in the backlines, looks slow, too slow for midfield and we have been complaining for years that we need more speed. Re playing him at half-back, Raymond, Guifreda, Goldsworthy, Jarrad (of course) are way, way ahead and he would also be delaying the promise shown by Giles Ellis. Scott's resume has him as a good bloke, good team man and "father" of the backlines. Congratulations to Scott on his good AFL career and in latter years for Werribee but he and the Eagles may look elsewhere.

Re: Possible Ins For 2016
That elsewhere could be Sturt according to another forum.
Think your summary is pretty good premiers, backline would be his spot I think, and thats not really what we need, its where he spent 99% of his time at North Melbourne and I assume in the Werribee also. Couldn't find a spot with North when things were shaky early in the season and when he did only lasted a week, think injuries in the last few years have really hurt him. Shame if he doesn't come home because as you said he is a genuinely good bloke, but it's not how it works now.

Re: Possible Ins For 2016
Agree, it is always nice to get your own players back but not a major issue without him.
Guys coming out the AFL system after 10 years are usually physically shot and he is
showing those signs over the previous year or two.
