Possible Ins For 2016
Matt McDonough delisted by Richmond today. If not picked up by another AFL Club (highly unlikely), would be a great acquisition to the Eagles to replace Angus Rowntree for 2016.

Re Matt McDonough
He may have already settled into the more exciting Melbourne lifestyle and not want to return to Adelaide but, agree, he would be a good pickup although nobody replaces Gus unfortunately. I remembered Matt McDonough as an excellent kick and intelligent playmaker, good overhead for his 182cm height, sufficient pace though not quick. Of course, if he returns to Adelaide, hopefully, he wants to play for us as other SANFL clubs may sign him. Also ? whether we'll have sufficient in our salary cap after we sign Jarrad Redden.
Re other ex-Eagles, Michael Karpany at West Coast Eagles likely to be delisted and would expect him to return. I don't think the Eagles will chase Scott McMahon due to his age. Matthew Stokes, if he doesn't stay in Melbourne, would likely have more ties (family) to Darwin than to us. Tim Sumner may present next year.
But right now, this thread is irrelevant to the history that awaits us - the 2015 Premiership. Go you Eagles!!

Re: Possible Ins For 2016
The delisting of Jarrad Redden will certainly have those responsible for the playing list doing their sums.
The ideal situation would be the exiting of Thurlow. This would release a ruck position and salary cap room.
Would be very unsavoury to see former Eagle juniors get delisted and not come back to the club or not being picked up because of salary cap restrictions.

Cameron Giles ex Carlton also delisted. 6'5" running CHB. Has had terrible trouble with his feet, similar problems to Trengove and Crouch. Will have to wait and see what his future holds.

Whoever we chase we need midfielders that can go in and get the ball.
And we need to pick Redden back up

Heard that Mcdonough is staying in Melbourne....would be unfortunate if true...he played midfield in the VFL last year...apparently the magpies are talking to redden

Re: Possible Ins For 2016
Having stewed over the loss 24.7, I reckon the missing piece was ''mongrol". When you think about all the wins we had against the poorer teams where we fluffed around for 40 point wins we never developed that ruthless edge. Adding players to the squad with this may need to be a factor, whilst we were mostly too good maybe we were too nice along the way. Hard to get over this one.

Re: Possible Ins For 2016
I pretty much agree with you Hareeba...
But I think those 3 big injuries were the major factor. I don't like to make excuses, but I believe they are reasons rather than excuses. Also take into account Petrenko fractured his wrist early in the GF.
It is hard to fathom after the season we had, but it's hard to convince me Rowntree, Bomber and Poole wouldn't make a 3-5 goal difference, as well as a fully fit Petrenko.
It doesn't hurt as much as 1994 (no excuses or reasons that day)... It's more a shame than anything else that we copped all our bad luck at the wrong time of the year.
Take Willits, Porps and Schmidt out of the West team and you'd think they'd struggle too... Both emotionally and from a personnel point of view.
Some may say West did to us what we did to Centrals in 2011.
But at least we were a genuine top 3 side in 2011 (West fell into the top 3 thanks to the Eagles beating Norwood in the last round)... And barring maybe one player each, both Eagles and Centrals went into the 2011 GF at full strength.
The stars aligned for West and they rode their luck.

Wouldn't Redden if he played at the Port Magpies be on a maximum of only $400 a game ?

Re: Possible Ins For 2016
Hey Mara yes the 3 outs cost us but it would have been great to overcome adversity for a change. I work with a West player, they changed their plans with Rowntree out by throwing Tuck on the ball which worked for them. The fact we let them off the hook twice (allowed big comebacks) also gave them the confidence to take us on...unlike Norwood in previous seasons who kept their foot on their opponents throat. Anyway it will be interesting to see how we shape up next year, the majority of the squad are on board I believe.

Re: Possible Ins For 2016
In the first 7-8 games, Eagles played fast rebound attacking footy but thereafter, our scoring dried up, with very low winning scores.
Unless we improve our scoring next season, we're going to be vulnerable to an explosive sides like Westies who only need 10 mins to put on 5 goals, game over. And that improvement has to be in the supply - guys breaking through the midfield with penetrating kicks.
Re Jarrad Redden - after he passes the medical checks, hope his contract considers his injury status. We got burnt badly by Kirk a few years ago being ruled out before he had even played a game.(Hentschel, that Westies AFL guy in 2006, also Welsh, the list of unfit players before signing is a bad story at our club)
A fit Jarrad Redden would be a big asset. And in our dreams, 2 hard midfielders who can consistently pick up 25 plus disposals.

That Westies afl guy was 2011 and I think you mean Stephen Tiller. Yes kept the medical staff very busy but justified (I tell myself) because he kicked a goal in the grand final and we won by 3 points.

Matt McDonough's girlfriend comes from Melbourne. This will be a big problem in getting him back to the Eagles.

Heard that Redden will be playing for us if not drafted....more likely than not that Mcdonough will be returning to Adelaide...apparently signed 2 players but don't know who or if any good

Re: Possible Ins For 2016
Redden likely to be at Eagles pending passing a medical test (and not getting drafted).
Thurlow gone, and Sam Martyn is returning to NSW.
And expect McDonough to sign with North... Money the driving factor.
We were right into Aiden Riley too apparently, but signed with Sturt for finance reasons as well.

Re: Possible Ins For 2016
With the recruitment of the athletic Giles (196cm running forward/back) where does that leave Jacob Templeton (and Raikawasi) on the pecking order? Recruited as a key defender, Templeton was tried in the Seconds this season as a runner on the HB flank and centre-wing and did well - it appears that he is not going to be the first League choice in any of the afore-mentioned positions.
I would like to see him given the chance to "re-invent " himself in pre-season trials as a tall midfielder. At 192cm 92kg , fast, strong attack on ball in close, good skills and prepared to run and spread, he would be a likely type. Pretty useful having a big body around at ground level (Panos at Norwood worked). Would be disappointing to lose him to another Club.
Would be expecting Marc Bornholm to be sharpening up his goal-kicking and forward play over the summer. With Redden likely to take 75% of the ruck-work, it would be limiting to have Bomber sitting on the bench for that time, whereas if he can make himself into a dangerous 3rd tall pinch-hitting forward besides his back-up ruckman role, the team would look better balanced.
Let's hope that Boyd can overcome his groin problems over Summer and show us the the 2007-2012 form. Have we enough left in the Salary Cap for a classy midfielder?
