Re: 2013 Trial Game Details Confirmed
Can someone give an account of how the Internal Trial went today? Besides the regulars, were there any standout surprises ?
I only saw one and a bit quarters and with no program, couldn't pick up on the new players. It looked to be the Yellow Probables against the Blue Possibles.
No 25 in Yellows playing off the half back flank, 187cm, fair haired, quick, gave a lot of rebound, kicked a goal looked a likely type (? was it Martyn)
Solidly built ruckman in Blues (presume it was Bornholm) also looked useful. Lewis, Parry and Jarrad good as always. But ? identity of new guys. Hope they provide enough programs/numbers for the next two trials.
Did Ainger play?.

Most of us had no idea who was who .
I did ask and got some answers 13 gold was the ex westies ruckman boy he kicked a very long goal!!!
27 blue was supposedly Tim Mackenzie
Ainger was on the sidelines injured with a slight back and at 6.5 he was tall.
Number 49 in blue one of the APY land boys took one hell of a specky mark .
There were some new guys out there i had no idea who they were the other ex south recruit might have been out there as well !!
Unless I'm mistaken number 30 blue was being called "thomo" is he the brother of Luke ?
And on another forum Scott Blessing was cleared today from west to the eagles !!! No idea if he played or not today.
Not that u can tell much from an internal but are the eagles going to play a more attacking game this year ?

Re: 2013 Trial Game Details Confirmed
I had trouble as well, didn't know who was who.
Does anyone know who 44 in gold was, small and started on a wing, did Ok.
Thought Gus played really well and should have a great year. Lewis and Powell were also good. They also played Joyce, Lane(41)and Goldie thru the middle at times. Poole did ok, his size was not a problem.
Sumner started on a wing and also played across halfback , got lots of the ball.
Allmond didn't play, don't know about Carey from Sth, Hall only played qtr or so.
Fitzgerald (30) did well as the third tall, don't know where he will play when Ainger plays. I reckon he may fight Day for a spot down back.
Thompson ,Day and Culley look to be the big 3 defenders, until Kirk plays ( assume he is injured, can anyone confirm? ).
Bomber (13) from Westies did ok in ruck, thought he broke even. The blue teams rucks didn't disgrace themselves .
For the blue side thought no.1 did well, have no idea who he was.
After today, still feel we lack midfield depth. A lot will depend on Lewis, Powell and Gus, they will carry this side this year and that's a huge ask. They need some help.
Don't think we will see much, if any of lad from the Power to help us in the middle.

The ruckman for Blue strongly built, short spiky hair looked pretty useful with ruckwork. (if 13 Gold was Bornholm).

I think 25 in yellow was Kane, think he only played a qtr or so. He did look good, hard at it. Has he got a few more games to serve from suspension last yr??

Re: 2013 Trial Game Details Confirmed
Thanks for that re Kane - now that you said it, yeah, it probably was him - maybe half - back is his position. But I think last season's suspension was for 3 games and he missed the last minor round and the Eagles final so has one game to serve this year.
Disappointed that they don't appear to be trying Sumner as an onballer -thought he might do well in one of our weak areas. Good to hear Kane Mitchell put in a quiet one last night for the Power.......now if he can follow that up with a couple more quiet games, maybe....
What's the injury rumour to Kirk keeping him out for 10 weeks?

Daniel Kirk has ankle problem.
Cannot confirm length of time out but wouldn't think he'd play in round 1 or 2.

Re: 2013 Trial Game Details Confirmed
Early days but disappointing against South tonight. At times we played with intent and looked the goods but the yips took over in front of goal, then our points and out on the fulls were matched by South goals (deflating!). South were very good though. Borholm had a great 2nd quarter with a good mark and goal plus lacing out Staple with a centimeter perfect pass, as i've previously posted looking forward to seeing great things from Bomber this year. Ainger copped a bit from his old club supporters but that was only jealousy I think he kicked 2 or 3 in the last half and always looked dangerous. I'll be there at Kilburn next week, looking forward to seeing an Eags side all the better for the run tonight.

Yep agree although this was our first trial game .Our forward line let us down no Grocke no Eagles by the look of it . Ainger only played the second half and Von b played a small amount of time in the seconds . Smalls looked out of sorts . But well done south slick and fast .
On the bright side the seconds were on fire some very good young players and of course Allmond look good .And the young APY lad kicked 2 goals 5 i think and looked good .

Always take results of trials with a grain of salt as players are just getting used to playing again and some are out of position.

Re: 2013 Trial Game Details Confirmed
Does anyone know the extent of injury to Daniel Kirk? It would be informative to supporters if the Club could give an update. Rumours range from 10 weeks out to now "Out for the Season".
If that's the case, hell, we can't take a trick with our big recruits like Welsh, Tiller and Hentschell who played very few games due to injury and in the case of Welsh and Tiller cost big transfer fees.
But hopefully, Daniel will be right for the seconf half of 2013

We really need an update from someone about Kirk. From the club or someone who knows the true story.
I notice his photo was not in the players pics for 2013, I know that doesn't mean anything but......??
