Re: Rumored ins and outs 2012
Looking towards 2012 and what the Eagles need to stay at the top, in general terms, it is the abilility to kick higher scores - rarely were we able to kick over 15 goals/ match and depended heavily on Grocke and later, Staple to score. Need a reliable 3rd tall (? Zac Fitzgerald) and set of smalls (? McDonough and Irons) - certainly vacancies in the team for them with Treeby and Rimington going and Chris Hall needing to perform consistently.
However, with an aging midfield, Luke Powell and Cicca, we should be looking at a classy 0nballer in the 23 age bracket, even 2 onballers as the first priority. and a versatile 194 cm player to replace Luke Thompson (lost to the Crows). Sumner and Harding would be useful additions but not the answer. Of course, Rowntree will be an important Improvement to our Premiership side.
Good to see improvement in Redden's game in the latter part of this year and would expect him to be "clunking" his marks around the ground in 2012 to give us not only the best ruckman, Parry, but the most formidable combination of Parry - Redden.
Yes, recruit even only 2 very good recruits and we'll be hard to toss.

Re: Rumored ins and outs 2012
Premiers - nice wish list, but if Harding and Sumner are not picked up on a rookie list or redrafted I think the club would not have enough room in the salary cap to go after anyone else.
It's most likely coach Godden will concentrate on getting Zac Fitzgerald, Jarrod Harding, Cam Sutcliffe, Nathan Batley, Nick Joyce, Mat McMonough and Luke Dunstan up to speed. It's no good filling up the team with interstate or other club's recruits and not leave an incentive or pathway for locally produced juniors.

Maybe Chris McDermott as an Assistant Coach? Saw him today at the Eagles on Port Road with our CEO?

Re: Rumored ins and outs 2012
Bloody hot day, bored silly, so put down a few thoughts on the comming season on "where are we going to improve to stay ahead of the pack"
1. well, we're not going to get more from Powell, Ciccollela, McKenzie (probably even less as he's coming from interstate), Jarrad (except for a "shocker" in the GF), Parry,Greiger, Grocke because all of the above have been at the top of their game and simply can't get better.
but
2. Towards the end of the season, Redden looked to have matured and should account for even more strength at the ball-ups with Parry.
3. Of course, Angus Rowntree missed the GF but had become an important in-close ball-getter and will continue to improve.
4. Chris Hall wasn't the match-winning HF that we'd hoped and took time to get use to the heavier in-close footy of the SAFL compared to WAFL but will be a much better player in 2012, according to Godden as he trys to add a few kg to his skinny frame.
5 Tiller came into the season with big wraps and was disappointing but had a solid finals series. Was coming off groin injuries which limited his 2011 pre-season and now ok. Predict he'll have a much bigger 2012.
6. Aaron Day came into the season probably hoping to hold a place in the league - he did that plus became a very good rebounder with his precision kicking. Now he's got the confidence to have a big impact on the competetion. Same can be said for Lee Staple.
7 Forgotten forward Zac Fitzgerald was showing good form till his shoulder went and should be a good 3rd tall.
8. Don't like to depend on the availabilty of AFL players but Port Power had an unusaully long injury list in 2011 and we could be seeing more of Nick SALTER and Paul Stewart in 2012. Even forgotten Power forward/midfielder Jarrad Irons is unlikely to play more than 50% games for the Power and will be very handy.
9 Jimmy Toumpas will receive more attention from opposition but will improve in his eagerness to impress for the AFL 2012 draft.
8. Raymond dropped to the Seconds early in the season but came back strongly as he adjusted to SAFL footy. Looks to be a classy mover and ready to step-up as a key player.
Wait for the trial games but you would expect that some ofthe likes of Shirley, Eddy, Sumner would be a chance of improving the side or at least giving depth. In 2011, we were very fortunate to have almost a full list around Final time (Rowntree only being a notable absentee) - we can't count on being as lucky in 2012 and fortunately, we appear to have much more depth while still having youngsters Harding, McDonough coming through. We were particularly lucky to have Grocke on the park for most games (suspension aside) and are down on proven key forwards.
But framework is there - now the hunger for another flag.

Re: Rumored ins and outs 2012
Agree Premiers, bloody hot, hate this weather, bring on winter & footy.
Just an update from pre Christmas training on some of the players you have mentioned.
Gus Rowntree has trimmed down & is looking great.
Stephen Tiller had shoulder op straight after G/F together with Paddy Giuffreda, both doing many k's on the bikes on the sideline, but I'm told both will be ready.
Aaron Day, well he's the stand out for me. Having spent time training with Essendon it was hard to recognise him at first. He's trimmed down & looks absolutely terrific.
Zac Fitzgerald was a late starter he was back on farm for harvest. Trained the last few nights prior to Christmas.
Training starts again on January 9th so looking forward to seeing how the boys look after the Christmas break.

Re: Rumored ins and outs 2012
Thanks for the info, Eagle014.
Not much info going around this time of the year with recruitment mostly finalised. Look forward to the next report.
Even though you say Tiller and Guifreda will be ready after shoulder ops, disappointing for them that they haven't been able to run before Christmas, putting them behind again - after all, the Crows were the best cyclists in the AFL and didn't help them!!!
Do you ever see Grocke practising a better run-up for kicking goals at training??
Keep the info coming!!!

Re: Rumored ins and outs 2012
In Grocke's defence he could be doing that once the main training session is over which I think is around 7.30-8.00pm & we are not there at that time. Most nights I leave just after 7pm & the main session is still taking place.Mickyj wrote:Premiers wrote:Thanks for the info, Eagle014.
