After watching last nights internal trial .Eagles are going to have a very strong back line .And not wishing to upset Eagles14 here but I spoke with
Stephen Tiller .In my mind he certainly gave Adam Grocke a bath in the 3 quarters he played . But we will have Grieger,Tiller,Mackenzie,Raymond,Guufrieda and Jarrad down back this year .A very handy backline!!
I'm looking forward to watching the guys play against Port .
And watch some of the young guns as well like Joyce, Poole ,Batley etc etc and apologies for any i missed.

Mickyj (above) you didn't include our 2010 best performer (until injured) in your list of backman - Geddes. How did he go last night? Along with Culley? Did Chris Hall play?
Can someone give we starved Eagles supporters an in-depth run-down on the trial last night?
How did Bock go? Is he any better than Hoban? Did Von Bertouch and Hentschel play? Have Travis Lane and Goldsworthy look to have taken the next step? Any multiple goal-kickers?

Geddes didnt play
Culley may have played and come off
Chris Hall played looked good
Sam Martin Crows rookie played nice leg
Phil Raymond another one with a nice leg
One of the big guys either Bock or Goss came off after friendly fire .

while it wasn't a great day at Alberton it was our first trial.and with 10 league players out .Three injuring themselves during the week. And Day hurting himself in the seconds warm up .
Result should not have been a surprise.
Plus it was very very muggy down there

Not the best start but to get thru with no injuries from the match is good.
Some positives out of it ...
Macca looked good, Raymond showed a bit and so did Zac Fitzgerald when he came on. The old stagers looked good for the first hit out too.
Couple more games against sides who had big wins yesterday should be a good test leading up to round 1.

Greiger and McKenzie clearly our best, Bock has moved ahead of Redden in the ruck pecking order, no forwards (Grocke workied hard as usual but disposed terribly to opposition).
Magpies far too quick with their indigenous players.

Which players are missing that can give us pace for Rd 1 ? Let's hope that Brodie Smith and Jarrad Irons are available to offer that spark.
Very disappointing signs.
(Thought no 21 on the wing showed a bit of potential)

Only a trial and our first hit out.Port played with far more intensity,aggression and desperation.They went FLAT OUT,we certainly did not.We were not accountable and lacked run evidenced by the number of loose players they had all over the ground throughout the entire game.
Sure it was disappointing, but it was only a trial after all and am confident will see improvement next week.

I know it was just a trial game but I was really disappointed with:
• Eagles lack of commitment (apart from Macca, Bear, Raymond and Paddy)
• No evident game plan (continually kicked to a contest)
• Very dismal forward line. (Lane couldn’t find the ball. Grocke continually kicked the ball to the Port players. Salter only booted one ‘long bomb’ goal)
• The Seconds didn’t play any better. (Christian Grocke was a stand-out for us – should have played in the league team instead of his brother)
Bring on next week!
