Panthers vs Eagles Monday 26th April Hickinbotham
Ok guys lets post away .
Should be an interesting game.Ron was at unley watching yesterday. And I'm pretty certain there's a few guys with something to prove to Ron.
But I will be interested to see if we can have a running defensive game like against sturt.or will south be very defensive .

We need to prove we made the right choice in giving ron the boot by smashing the panthers

It will take more than a win over the Panthers to "prove" that parting company with Ron was "the right choice". Let's see where Godden has the Eagles in 10 years - or even at the end of this season.

Yes, fair call... hasn't proven anything yet.
Having said that, I think 10 yrs in one job is plenty for anyone, so to change was appropriate IMHO.
Was good to see him there yesterday... who was the bloke with the binocs?
Welsh is just beginning to find some touch... couple of weeks & I reckeon he will kick a bag

I think with the amount of scores today at Noarlunga, you can expect it to be the opposite next week. Another match ruined more likely.

Unfortunately, with the Power's result today we could be minus two for next Monday. If not two at least one.

Power selectors will greatly influencethe EAGLES fortunes.
How long can we keep Broadbent, a real gun? Also, Nick Salter although Nick may be that in-betwwen player re height and agility that never holds an AFL position. Can the Power on-ballers stay fit and firing to release Banner to us? With Harlett coming back into the team, will Paul Stewart get back in? Geez, almost enough to barrack for Port's good fortune.
Did Cica come off with a hammy in the last 10 mins of the 4Q?

Got a feeling we're going to see more of Salter and Broadbent this year than we thought.
Totally agree Broady is a gun player but for some reason Choco doesn't seem to want to pick him for that mob.
Also would have thought Salter would have been in Port's team already with Jay Schultz being out.
I reckon we'll get Banner next week as well.

Re Cica
Don't remember seeing him back at the club Saturday night.
We will have a few to check on at training Wednesday night Mick.
Hopefully we don't see too many white guernseys (Injured).

Do think I saw him on the tv looking like he was limping off the ground.
But at his age he could have been exhausted from all that running he did.

I still know how the Eagles think: Fuller
NEW BOSS: South Adelaide coach Ron Fuller says he knows how the Eagles operate. Picture: Stephen Laffer. Source: AdelaideNow
SOUTH coach Ron Fuller has fired the first shot ahead of this week's showdown with the Eagles, saying he still knows how his old players think.
Fuller, who watched the Eagles slam through 24 majors in their impressive win against Sturt at Unley on Saturday, noted the side he coached for nine seasons was playing a more attacking style of football under Michael Godden.
But he said he still knew the ``mentality'' of the Eagles players he led up to the end of last season, which would be an advantage as he tried to mastermind a Panther victory at Noarlunga on Monday.
``They're playing slightly different (under Godden) but certainly I know the mentality of them,'' Fuller said.
``We are looking forward to the challenge and it's more about what we have got to do to improve, not what the opposition is doing.
``I'm the South Adelaide coach now and that's the way my mind is.''
Fuller's Panthers kicked 16 goals but conceded 25 majors on Sunday against a North side loaded with forward guns.
He said his team would have to bring more intensity to the table against the attacking Eagles or it would risk conceeding a cricket score.
``We learnt a good lesson in intensity and working hard both ways," Fuller said.
``One of the things we have improved is our offensive strength and 16 goals would win a lot of games of footy - but not in a shootout.
``We need to play a lot more accountable and we need to be working as hard the other way as we do going forward."
Fuller's key defenders - who struggled to match up on North's Michael Wundke (four goals) Clint Alleway (three goals) and Nick Gill (two goals) - face another stern test against the Eagles.
Gun Eagles duo Scott Welsh and Nick Salter kicked five between them against Sturt and started to work well in partnership.
The positive for South against North was the continued good form of recruits Andrew Horne (29 disposals) and Guy O'Keefe (21 touches).
Peter Rolfe also had a good game, amassing 23 touches and kicking three goals but boom recruit Nick Liddle was quiet.
This Monday's match starts at 2.10pm at Noarlunga and South hopes to draw a big crowd in the stand alone public holiday timeslot
Ron should have been in the comedy festival.Anyone else see this.

Obviously we need to win; not just for the two points, but you will never hear the end of it if we don't!
I also hope it will be a decent game and not like the Norwood one! But I fear it will be.

Re: Panthers vs Eagles Monday 26th April Hickinbotham
Two facets of attacking play that was on display against Sturt was ;
1. Switching play from deep in defence. Though we did it under Ron, we did it many more times against Sturt and more efficiently withplayers queued up down "the other side" to pass the uncontested entry into our forward line. Hence the importance of Jarryd across the backlines with his penetrating kick to get the switch happening. He stuffed up once resulting in a gimme goal but started many successful switches. Centrals have been destroying sides with the switch for years.
2. The 30 metre handball forward from the back pocket or half back line when the defender was cornered. Because of the "hang-time" in the air, it needed to be accurate, and was. Last year, we wouldn't do it.
Interesting to note that Jarryd Wright will make his Seconds return this week - a classy player who returned to the Eagles in 2007 but has barely played a League game in 3 years due to injury and over-weight. Thought he was finished but looked a lot fiitter/leaner in the pre-season. At his best, would be another handy half-forward, midfielder with a physical presence.

Boofa has had a shocking run with injuries (and not just Hammy's or Ankles like others), everytime he has pushed for selection or made it back to the A's he has been struck down again...here's hoping for a successful return this time.

May see Mitch Banner have his first game this year for the Eagles.
Might be without Nick Salter, depends if Jay Schultz comes up.
Will miss Cheepy (See Injury List update).

Re: Panthers vs Eagles Monday 26th April Hickinbotham
The number of SANFL games needed to be played for a player to qualify for the Finals was increased from 3 last year to 5 or 6 this year - can someone clarify whether its 5 or 6 ? Considering the first round Bye counts as a match, this week's hopeful selection by the Eagles will qualify Broadbent and Salter, if it is 5 games qualification - great stuff. Now to work on Banner, Paul Stewart and Jay Schulz all of whom are not that well entrenched in the Power team, that we haven't a chance of seeing them in the Eagles soon. Also a good chance that Hentschel will come back through us but ? whether the Crows will leave him for us for 5 -6 games.
Mick Godden has stated that he wants to play his AFL players on the flanks and pockets and to keep the spine manned by non-AFL players so that a team play pattern can be better maintained and not messed around by AFL players coming and going.

Re: Panthers vs Eagles Monday 26th April Hickinbotham
Expect big Stewart from North Adelaide to again fill Schultz's spot. Mitch Banner fills one of the 2 glaring weaknesses - a true rover. The second weakness, a complete Ruckman, to be filled in 3 weeks when Parry returns. Things are falling into place at the moment. McKenzie has been allowed to spend his time in the backline picking up on his fitness (having missed 4 trial games) before putting his hammy to the real test as an on-baller - had we not been winning, he may have been rushed into an on-baller's role.Eagle014 wrote:May see Mitch Banner have his first game this year for the Eagles.

Not fully convinced that James Rimington has sewn up the back-pocket -on-the-rovers role yet. Has everything needed except that burst of pace needed for the likes of Callinan, O'Sullivan, Crane etc. However, no other Eagle option at present and he may grow into it. James Stewart looked good in the same position for a while in 2008 before leaving in 2009 - has more pace than JR but lacks kicking penetration and lacks a little height

I think it is important that everyone understands that Ron wasn't given the boot. He with the club agreed it was time for change. You have to complement that.
