1st Semi Final Eagles v Glenelg, Sunday 19th September, 12:10pm at AAMI Stadium
Well I hoped we make this game .Hoped above all else that we would make it.
And the boys did.
Will need another huge effort this week.
Who will replace Miles, Hoban,Redden, or 1 not quite ready Biglands ?

Or will they just go with one ruck?
Will Salter and/or Broadbent be available?
I think they probably need a 2nd ruck and that will probably be Redden. Whatever happens, I hope they don't consider putting Grocke into ruck around the ground. We need him up forward.
If Salter or Broadbent are available they'd have to slot straight in. God(den) knows who for though!

My understanding is that both players will NOT be released by PAPs.
We still need Todd as the backup ruckman IMHO.
Is fraught with danger going in with only 1.
I think Trent will play better this week too... he looked like he was short of a gallop, particularly with his 'hands'... that game will do him good.
Am quietly confident of another win this week.
All the pressure is on the bays, if it's tight in the final stanza, they might go to water under pressure - remember they have lost their last 4 Finals games & they might just get the 'yips'
C'mon Eagles!!!

Miles is injured though (listed 2 weeks on website). He will be hard to replace!

play redden rest him in the forward line and move hentchel down-back, If we play hobban we will lose flexibility.
If we play biglands we hand glenelg the game, he's not fit

Redden has done nothing at all in the forward lines when I've seen him there. Besides from the Reserves Semi in 2008. He gets out muscled to easily, for one thing.

its hard when they never give him games in a row plus he kicked a couple of bags of five or more in the reserves. His only competition is hobban who is useless everywere except the ruck, biglands who cant move and didn't ruck in his last reserves game, heinjus who is at least a year away from league standard, hill who cant touch the footy hes that much out of form and goss who is currently playing Under 18's on a pass because of injury's
We could play Dawson in the ruck like last year
i also think raynor should get a game, maybe take out cheep, as Raynor will kick goals.

Broadbent & Salter could be inclusions this week but who do they replace. Miles will be missed with the only possible replacements being Redden or Hoban as Biglands is listed as an injury. If our boys can play with the same pride and passion this week we could be a chance of pulling off an upset but we need to be at our best from the very first bounce because the bays will want to dearly turn around their recent finals form. I can't wait.

Would be great but I can't see it happening. The last I heard they would not be released from the Power.EaglesFan18 wrote:eaglehaslanded wrote:Broadbent & Salter could be inclusions this week.

One down, three to go
IF ANYONE thought Woodville-West Torrens was just making up the numbers in this year's SANFL finals series, someone forgot to tell the Eagles' players and coach Michael Godden.
Following their 70-point win over the in-form Sturt, the Eagles will soar into this Sunday's first semi-final full of confidence - and with little external expectation.
But Godden said his side was feeling the pressure of needing to win a premiership as much as the other remaining finalists.
"We expect to be going through and winning a Grand Final. That's what we've set ourselves since November last year," he said.
"I don't know if there's less pressure. Maybe externally there's less pressure, but internally there's a lot of pressure on us."
There is no doubt the odds are stacked against the Eagles.
If they were to get past Glenelg, defeat the loser of the Central-Norwood match and then win the grand final, they would become just the third side in SANFL history to win a premiership from the elimination final, joining Norwood (1984) and the Port Magpies (1998)
"To stay alive, we need to keep winning. We don't have a chance to lose," Godden said.
"We have to win four finals to win it and we've won one, so this week is just the next step."
A win against the Bays would be the first for the Eagles this year.
They lost by 39 points at Glenelg Oval in round eight and struggled in front of goal in their 33-point home loss in round 20.
Godden said his side needed to play the same way it did last Sunday to overcome the Tigers.
"We just need to bring a complete footy game to beat a side which I imagine will be very desperate," he said.

Just off the subject of finals for a moment - heard from Adelaide boy involved in Fremantle's player development that Chis Hall has been delisted. Harvey considers he's too slow for a small. Will be very handy for the Eagles in 2011 - google "Chis Hall WAFL" and you'll find he's been in outstanding WAFL form but had a few injury problems.
Now back to the Present. Go you Eagles!

Great win!
Sadly, without Lewis and Treeby next week, we've fired our best shot today. Our lack of depth will tell next week but good effort by Godden and the boys, even if we finish third. But dare we hope, especially if Broadbent and Salter play.

Be positive, Premiers! It is going to be mighty tough if Broadbent and Salter don't play, but the players should just shrug the loss aside.
Have a look at the kicks to handball stat over the last two weeks:
vs Sturt 187k 107h
vs Glenelg 162k 99h
Less handballs, more direct! It's working. And so long as the effort and intensity is there next week again, win or lose, we can be proud of them.

Despite the two losses by the reserves in the last 2 weeks there are a couple of boys that have shown some pretty good signs down there that should be able to step up to the plate, pinning our hopes on Slats and Broady who while they would be valuable should they be cleared to play are both short of a gallop may end up being more costly that beneficial.

Probably one of them would be beneficial at the most if match fitness is a concern. Broadbent seems most likely to play out of the two anyway by the sounds of it. Who will take the 2nd ruck spot though, if Redden doesn't come through?

Hoben would be my pick if Redden and Miles don't come up .
Would prefer Rayner to Broadbent seeing Rayner has been playing and Broadbent hasn't.

Re: 1st Semi Final Eagles v Glenelg, Sunday 19th September, 12:10pm at AAMI Stadium
Eagles win built on guts
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl/eagles-win-nothing-but-guts-glenelg-sent-crashing-out/story-e6freckc-1225926312902?from=public_rss
THE Eagles have stormed into the preliminary final and sent Glenelg crashing out in straight sets with a 38-point win built on pure guts at AAMI Stadium today.
Without a fit man on the bench in the final term with Leigh Treeby on crutches, Scott Lewis' arm in a sling and Jarrad Redden stretchered off, the Eagles kicked six goals to one to win 13.15 (93) to 7.13 (55).
Glenelg kicked the first four goals of the game before the Eagles responded with the next five and after leading by the barest of margins at half and three-quarter-time, finished full of running.
Cicolella was outstanding at the stoppages, as was Luke Powell, while Jay Cheep and Angus Rowntree produced big final terms and the Eagles got plenty from youngsters Jared Polec and Brodie Smith.
Trent Hentschel was the best forward on the ground with four goals - three of them coming when the Eagles were under a mountain of pressure in the first half. While plenty of focus will be on the Eagles' injury crisis this week, Glenelg fans will be demanding answers from coach Mark Mickan after another failed finals campaign.
