Re: Eagles v Glenelg seconds U18s September 7
To familiarise you with some of our U18 players (apologies to the Stars not listed), I use the stats from last week's program.
22 Kade Herbert (Bute) Apr06 Ht 184cm Wt 80kg
30 Charlie West (Immanuel) Feb06 Ht 195cm Wt 91kg
59 Jack Gray (Immanuel) April06 Ht 185 Wt 93
28 Tate Delmenico (HenleyH) Dec06 Ht 190 Wt 87
5 Zac Schwarz (PortDistFC) Dec 06 ht 180 wt 71
8 Jack Cook (Immanuel) Jul 07 Ht 180 Wt 70
16 Jevan Phillipou (Henley) Mar07 Ht 181 Wt 74
26 Logan Hughes (StMichaels) May07 Ht 192 Wt85
22 Jett Hastings (StPeters) May06 Ht 182 Wt 82
17 Oskar Kilpatrick(FliPkFC) Sep06 Ht 187 Wt 76
60 Tom Luck (WallarooFC ) Apr06 Ht 195 Wt 88
From the list, you can get an idea of where some of our U18s are re their likely physical maturity next year. Three of the above are still eligible for U18s next year, two have bodies ready to go, the others, of course, will bulk up and maybe even grow another 1-2cm.
Encourage you all to come down to Glenelg on Saturday to support all of the boys or failing that, watch on the SANFL App.

Harry was a state player this year so he should offer something for next year.

First quarter, by stats, Glenelg seem to be all over Eags. Is wind a factor?

Re: Eagles v Glenelg seconds U18s September 7
2 goal breeze to southern end. Eagles average 1st Q with defence ( Andrews, Bruce) holding up.
2nd Q Eagles opened against breeze with 3 goals in 10 mins with Tigers coming back at the end of Q after Will Pearce who was playing well went off with sprained ankle at the 13th min when scores were Eags 4. .7 to Tigers 2. .1. Arthur playing well with clearances from centre.
Now HT Eags 3 points up. with breeze this 3Q

Re: Eagles v Glenelg seconds U18s September 7
Too many Eagle 2nd players can't kick a consistent 20 to 45 metre drop punt ( mongrel kicks) I can't recall a Glenelg player missing a endonend drop punt all game, even if they missed their targets on rare occasions.
Effort is there against the minor Premier !! But talent gap appears too large.

U18s playing well without making most of their chances. Phillipou not as accurate as GF Peter or F Sam.
Breeze advantage almost gone.

Terrible skill levels right throughout our club. Our kicking for goal is horrible to watch.

HT scores even Glenelg 6. 2 Eagles 5 8
Like the Seconds. poor goalkicking although, unlike the Seconds, the U18s are good with their field kicking.
By the time a young footballer has got to 14 - 15 years old, his kicking skills are established; further coaching can tinker with some improvement when not under pressure but not natural instinctive kicking. How is it that Glenelg and Sturt players in all grades kick a footy well? Is it that those clubs weed out the players who can't kick irrespective of their ball winning skills? Or is it good coaching of skills at the source - eg Sacred Heart College junior grades ? Surely the Dads (and Mums) of Eagle juniors spend the same attention in the backyard kicking as Fathers of players from other Clubs!!! Gee, it's frustrating watching the hopes and aspirations going down the drain because of this lack of skill.
Having said all that, the Eagles U18s are playing a good brand of footy and good still win this game. Young Logan Hughes approx 190cm moves very well for a 16 yearold

Missed some easy goals though. He is a solid boy .
Umpires against us badly.
We need to score some goals. To many easy misses.

Great 3Q by Eagles. If they had kicked straight, would have been 10 goals up rather than 6. But very confident( this team won't relent. !!

My bad premiers it was Gray that I mixed up with Hughes as missing easy goals. Hughes is a talent.

The U18's were sensational, completely outplayed the Bays. Some serious talent in this team.
I've been saying all year they have some excellent players that should go on to play league.

Re: Eagles v Glenelg seconds U18s September 7
What a superb exhibition of football by our U18s to romp into the Grand Final by thrashing Minor Premier Glenelg. The way the boys moved the ball, playing for each other, the speed and athletic ability, the lateral vison and pinpoint passing, regaining possession in tight scrums and giving off, it was all there (except some easy goal misses). It was like I was watching Geelong demolish Port Power all over again. Centrals will need to be very, very good to beat us next week. Well coached. The camaradarie that exists among parents, friends and players is important for the Club moving forward.

Very astute comment.
I've always wondered how these juniors who can't kick well find their way onto our list? What kinds of trials for list spots do we put everyone through? Or are we just accepting whoever turns up for pre-season training? Presumably these types have some other quality that makes them a better prospect than the kids we are turning away that can kick the footy!!
Thankfully the current crop of U18s mostly have exceptional foot skills. And what a difference that makes!!!
And this is is why they must all be retained for next year and replace our entire Reserves squad (barring Lukac and Pearce)

Re: Eagles v Glenelg seconds U18s September 7
I think we are very lucky to have Shane Reardon as our U18 coach, does a fantastic job every year no matter what players he is given and the multitude of changes he has to endure through the season. Love the style of play he engenders in the U18s, wish the league could play similar football. I would think Shane has a huge input to what players are kept, promoted or let go.
A great article in today's Sunday Mail about two players who were found or persisted with at Norwood and have now become regular league players. We must search thoroughly for new talent.

By ZAC MILBANK
A stunning second-half performance catapulted Woodville-West Torrens towards a dominant 49-point win against Glenelg in the SANFL U18 Preliminary Final at Stratarama Stadium.
With scores locked together at half-time, the Eagles powered towards a berth in the Grand Final by piling on 9.7 to the Tigers’ 1.6 across the final two terms.
Shane Reardon’s charges were irresistible as they overwhelmed the minor premier, particularly through the midfield while earning 19 more kicks, 50 more handballs and 15 more inside 50 entries.
Storming into next Sunday’s SANFL U18 title-decider against Central District from fourth spot, the Eagles had SA U18 trio Jett Hasting (29 disposals, five clearances), Rome Burgoyne (27 disposals) and captain Harry Dodd (28 disposals) find plenty of the Sherrin.
The class of Hostplus SANFL League wingman Kade Herbert (26 disposals) has been a bonus in the major round as Jack Cook (23 disposals, eight marks, one goal) was rated best by the Eagles’ coaches.
Eagles forward Jack Gray hit the scoreboard with 4.5 from his nine shots on goal while Logan Hughes and Zac Schwarz chimed in with two goals each.
Glenelg’s Jack Wisneske worked hard for his team-high 26 disposals while James Dutton (16 disposals) and tall utility Harry Ramm also found themselves in the best players.
Bays co-captain Charlie McAuliffe was his team’s only multiple goal kicker with two while composed distributor Angus Clarke had 19 disposals and a goal.
