Mickyj,
I like your optimism/hope but not your realism. I suggest your hope is better directed to Sturt upsetting the Crows.
A good thing going for the Eagles is that Sturt should be "fair dinkum" and have a real crack this week rather than coasting - should the Adelaide Crows beat Sturt and take 5th spot, the Crows are quite capable of going all the way. So Sturt have a chance to knock out one of their rivals (and do us a favour). Secondly, Sturt are only 0.2% behind Norwood and could secure top spot and a welcome rest for the first week of the Finals (if the Eagles lose by, say, 3 goals and Sturt beat the Crows by 6 goals).
So Sturt have a bit to play for. Go you Double Blues !!!!

Realism I hope we beat Norwood but honestly we have a snowballs chance in hell going by Norwood’s form .Premiers wrote:Mickyj,

100 games for Jack Firns. Great effort.
No surprises with Troy Menzel’s retirement - he looks done at SANFL level. Could never get a good run at it with injuries. Played well in the 2021 Grand Final and as an Eagle, looked most potent at the beginning of last season before doing his knee.
With Weckert out injured, I wonder if either of the above will fill that marking forward role to assist Ballenden and Cooke? Jacobs needs to pull something out of the bag, as would Menzel if he gets one final chance. Goldy showed glimpses last week after announcing his retirement. Perhaps Menzel has one last chance to sprinkle some of his class on an Eagles victory?
Any wins from this point on are a bonus.

Bring in West. Forecast is for a dry day. Let's see what he can do in conditions that will suit tall players. We aren't going to win by playing it safe. Let's shake things up.
I also would love to see Sauce spring a surprise and start Morris at full forward.

With the U18s having a week off, will the club take an opportunity to play a couple of U18s in the reserves or league. Oscar Pearce at 6'6" and playing as an overager in the U18s he should at least be played in the reserves.
Always hoping that Josh Morris would be given a chance up forward, but with the loss of Beecken his move up forward would have left the defence very static. He might not be a part of our defence next year.

Surely Menzel not in the side. Terrible last match.

Best half game of footy by our Seconds leading top team Norwood. Eags 6.5 Nor 2.6
Pearce, as on baller, doing well. I saw U18s Kilpatrick playing CHB well last week and he's taken some good grabs at FF ( only approx 188cm) and narrowly missed 2 goals. Surprising to see Moore's form has dropped away from his promising League performances a few weeks ago.

Liking Deaken Jackson's game. Don't know anything about him. Not many touches but has pace and flair.

Re: Eagles v Norwood Saturday August 24
Excellent win by Eagles Seconds over top team Norwood.
Pearce covered the ground very well. Missed a couple of targets with laxadaisical left footer but weaved his way through heavy traffic very well and was on the move before ruckmen's hand to ball. Who knows? Improve his fitness over Summer plus tidy up his quick short kicks and we may have another League midfielder. Certainly, a strong attack on ball.

Re: Eagles v Norwood Saturday August 24
A promising first quarter.
The first 5mins we were dominated but I think for the rest of the quarter we were on top and we should actually be in front.
1. The goal umpire incorrectly called Rowe's 'goal' a point. This will be a talking point if we lose.
2. The Nicholls miss from 5m out running into goal was horrible even with the pressure being exerted by the Norwood defender.
But overall our forward was looking very dangerous with lots of space. Cooke is playing very well.
Our defence needs to tighten up with our players allowing too many Norwood marks within scoring range.

What a disgusting effort so far in the third.
Even if Crows and us both lose the way we are going Crows will actually overtake us on percentage.

Re: Eagles v Norwood Saturday August 24
Well that second half magnified how bad we can be.
Still we have qualified and let us just win the next one. As with all SANFL clubs we need quality recruits to complement junior development and this will become more difficult once crows/port are given the flick

Re: Eagles v Norwood Saturday August 24
I'Jack Firns played a very good first half, strong intercept marking and tackles. When the floodgates opened in 3Q, of course Norwood's delivery to their forwards overwhelmed our entire backline. So "NO" Jack Firns bashing, please.

On a positive note, WWTFC are playing Finals in the top 3 grades - North Adelaide FC by comparison missed out on all 3 grades. I'm not gloating though and concede that a lot of work needs to be done.
