It was going to be 2.10 but with the 2's starting at 9.40 there was going to be a couple of hours break between the games which was going to be when the Don McSweeny cup was played, probably better for our supporters who go to the 2's to not have to sit in the cold for 2 hours between games.
The 9.40 start is because we are playing Centrals in the 2's and they are playing the Crows at Nuriootpa at 2.30 so need to have time for officials and support staff to get there.
A joke right. That wouldn't be correct. We switched our A and B to help another club and match elsewhere.
Had the Centrals V Adelaide game been at Elizabeth it is possible the Reserves could have played there today but as the league game was played as part of the country carnival i'm guessing the trade off for us was an early start for getting the game at home to allow Centrals support staff to travel the extra distance to Nuriootpa.
If the 2's had played at Elizabeth the game would have likely started at 10.30 to give time for our support staff to get back to Woodville prior to the league game. (This happens next week for North - 10.30 at Glenelg for the 2's and 2.10 at Alberton for League)
As for the league game being moved I'm only assuming it made sense not have a 2 hour break as between games.

Id like to agree but the league match is the highlight game. Some people are just knocking off work at that time. We had an AO match the other week the same. I think PA have their dirty mitts all over this. They seem to program all their SANFL matches to get best advantage for their A grade and the SANFL clubs just bend over.Columbo wrote:goddy11 wrote:Columbo wrote:goddy11 wrote:Ill have my second in a row whinge in regard our match scheduling. Sorry just taking my disappointment out on yesterday's result.

All reserves games started early with a 2 hour break between league games. Hope this doesn't happen next week

The disadvantage of playing against an "reserves" AFL side was illustrated again by PA. Their fitness and training showed out the longer the game went. The Port AFL style showed out in the team ball movement, played almost without thinking.

I hope not. He was given his league debut far too late in the season last year despite looking like the only player in the Reserves who could step up. And he played well when he did.
This year after a late start to the season he had played well in every game barring the Centrals match in the rain where he had an absolute shocker but was not alone in that. Being dropped the week after was the most puzzling and bizarre decision.
You can only assume there was more to him being dropped then simply one bad game.
And if he has left the club there may be more to the story.
Why wasn't Dan Menzel playing in the seconds despite being named there? Another strange selection decision to demote him.
A big test in the off-season this summer for the Match Staff/Coaching/Conditioning Staff given yet another second half the season fade out, sub-par performance recruiting wise in terms of addressing our obvious holes and constant soft-tissue injuries to players at training. Given we are almost certainly not going to make the finals this year it's not too early to commence scouring the amateurs/country leagues/state leagues making a list of potential players to approach, start making contact with assets in other leagues for intel i.e. Mark McKenzie (Head of recruitment at Hawthorn), ex Eagles currently playing AFL at other clubs (Tsitats at GC, Hayes at St Kilda) about who the club should keep an eye on. Make the list of pressing needs and PRIORITISE above everything else at least 3 KPP at either end who are mature players ready to go at SANFL. Also a big clean-out of the Reserves is in order for anyone who has been wallowing there for three years or more who either hasn't played a league game or only a handful but is not pressing for league selection each week.
Any ex Eagles currently on AFL lists that could be delisted at seasons end? We need to get as many back as well can. For whatever reason Collier-Dawkins isn't up to SANFL standard but going after him meant we weren't in the frame to afford Frederick who is playing great footy at Sturt. Recruit ex Eagles that have been delisted over non-ex Eagles who have been delisted anyday!!! Not sure of the state of their contracts but the following surely would be at risk of delisting?
- Mead (Power)
- Tsitas (GC)
- Smith (Brisbane)
- Macpherson (Adelaide)
- Sharman (St Kilda)
- Morris (Hawthorn)
- Dunstan (Melbourne)

Re: Eagles v Port MAUGHAN THIEM KIA OVAL SATURDAY 8TH July
The Good
- 90% of the first half
- Max Beattie & Joey Sinor (53 disposals and 23 tackles between them)
- Zane Williams (form seems to be getting back to what we know)
- Jesse Lonergan (19 touches, most of them contested and 8 clearances)
- The reserves having another win
- Troy Menzel back in the reserves for the first time in close to 12 months.
The Not So Good
- 90% of the second half
- 33 inside 50's - its just not getting in there enough to kick bigger scores
- Season hanging by a thread now
Yesterday was the 4th game in about 6 or 7 weeks for the 2's against Centrals, we have split them with 2 wins and 2 losses. For anyone who hasn't seen any of those games while they haven't been high scoring they have all been tight, contested games decided by 5, 5, 7 and 17 points. The next 3 weeks are against the team directly below us on the ladder (Norwood) and the team directly above us (Sturt - twice ay Unley) if we can win 2 or all 3 finals will certainly be achievable.
As for Dan Menzel, he was at the game in the stand so assume he was injured
