Re: Sturt v Eagles round 8 Saturday 28 May
Big game coming up! After Sturt’s loss to North, it is their spot in the top 3 we’ll be gunning for. On the other hand, a loss here and we’ll be battling South the week after to stay in the 5. A big couple of games before the bye. Added to that, the AFL mid-season draft next Wednesday.
If we go 2-0 and keep all our players things will be looking good. On the other hand, if we go 0-2 and lose Ballenden, our premiership defence will be in tatters!
It all starts at Unley on Saturday!

That just about sums it up. I an quietly confident we will win. We need to remove a few passengers from last week.

Spoke to Guilhaus last night, said he would be back in about four weeks, but will take it slowly.

Looks like the Eagles took the axe out at team selection with Beecken and Pudney dropped. Allmond not named in the reserves?
I would have thought Mcfarlane and Comma might have been sent back for a spell before either of those two.

I’m waiting until I can copy a side .
Allmond has a hamstring injury
A lot of players back in if the sides correct

Good to see that J Hayes has been given a 2 year extension to his career at St Kilda. Would be a low period for him after just starting with them

Pudney a bit stiff to get dropped. Goldy lucky to be in the side. Beecken has not come on from last season so I understand his demotion. Jimmy T is a good inclusion. Will add lots of run if fully fit. Is the inclusion of Redden realistic considering he hasn't played for a while.

I can see the Menzels wreaking havoc on the tiny Unley Oval - let's hope so! Also hoping for a much better game from Zane Williams - he was poor last week.

We played the Crows the wrong week. They had 8 top ups and looked very poor last night against an ordinary side. Our for last week was an aberration and I think and we will perform better today.

Re: Sturt v Eagles round 8 Saturday 28 May
This shows the insidious effect of AFL reserve teams. Depending on AFL requirements, 2 very good players out of our class were "dropped" last week to their reserve side, and we lust couldn't cope. Norwood would have lost against the side we played last week, and we would have won against the side Norwood faced last night.

Just got home from shopping. Are they the only 2 players in the 2'ss. We haven't score a goal yet.

Very good win! A bit of flex of the muscle displayed today. I was expecting a much better performance from Sturt than what they dished up. Redden fed the midfielders and off they went to work, led by Knight. Even with Mutch off with a shoulder/collarbone injury at half time, it didn’t slow the Eagles dominance.

Re: Sturt v Eagles round 8 Saturday 28 May
What a relief to have Redden back and giving us first look out of centre (48 disposals Riley Knight!)
Also, good to see Lachie Hoile show his undoubted talent for 1st time in his 3 ordinary League attempts- good penetrating kick compared to Pudney's high "air-time" kicks; also good decision making in traffic.
Cameron looks to need a couple of Seconds games to pick up match fitness.
Now to sweat over Ballendan's possible drafting (and Riley Knight). How cruel would that be, to lose both !!!!!!

The list I saw for nominations only had 4 of our players, Ballenden, Zane Williams, Lucas Cooke and Like Beecken.

Re: Sturt v Eagles round 8 Saturday 28 May
From early on in the match the boys looked to be on song. Good to see Redden gives some good clean hit outs to his on ballers.
The defence seems to be starting to gel nicely. Duval and Litster are improving each match and not afraid to attack the ball in the air. The coach was obviously determined to make a point with Pudney and Beecken, when McFarlane and Hardie pulled out late they were not recalled. As a supporter it was nice to feel comfortable early in the match with the way the players were committing themselves. B&F could nearly be wrapped up by Knights at this stage in the season. Joey S. always seems to rise to the occasion against better teams.
E. Haylock 2 goals for Payneham NU. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mid season draft requires a player to nominate so they can indicate length of contract they would like and in some cases the amount of salary they will command, Riley Knight hasn't. Nominations do not automatically carry on from previous draft nominations, but in most cases the player would have had to have nominated for a previous draft to be eligible to nominate.
