Growden leaves eagles

The WWTFC can confirm that Josh Growden will not play for the Club in 2014. Josh had signed with the Club after spending the last 3 years at the GWS Giants but will instead pursue an opportunity to take part in a 12 month American Football Punting trial. This will see him relocate to Melbourne and train with specialist coaches in the hope of receiving a College Scholarship in the United States.

On his decision Football Manager Trent Hentschel said “It will be disappointing not to have Josh at the Club for 2014 but at the same time we understand his decision to pursue this opportunity. He is still very young so if the next 12 months doesn’t work out as planned we would love to see him continue his footy with the Eagles.”

Maybe free up cash for a late dash for either Summerton (who was rumoured to be still sniffing around) or a ruckman.

Summerton has already signed with PAFC.

He would have been a cheap unknown anyway. Most of those that don't cut it at AFL level don't cut it at SANFL level neither. A few exceptions in recent years of course - Hall, Sumner included.

It is a complete unknown this year. Good that Powell is staying.

If Powell is staying, good news. Thought he was carrying a lot of weight (body weight) last season and looked slow in the first half of the season but last 6-8 games were very good. There was no name jumping out as Captain material (with Rowntree being injured) so again, important that Luke is playing. Disappointing that our 3 best midfielders are slow - Rowntree, Powell and Lewis and now there's only 2.
But would still like to have all of them available. And what a great servant of the Club, Luke Powell has been - hopefully, some of his selflessness can rub off on our recent recruits.
